Recently there has been a growing body of research interested in the concept of love and in the emotional life of bilinguals. The aim of this research was twofold. One aim was to explore the love styles of young people in Vojvodina, Serbia in the context of Hungarian and Serbian language. On the other hand, a monolingual Serbian group and a bilingual group of Hungarian-Serbian young people were studied to see if there were significant differences in their intimate relationships in Serbian, as the dominant language and in Hungarian, as a minority language. The goal was to explore if there were different love styles connected to each language in a majority and a minority group. Additionally, we wanted to see if there were detectable language dominance effects in bilinguals, whether bilinguals had different romantic relationship constructs in their two languages. In this research, Susan and Clyde Hendrick's Love Attitude Scale-Short form was applied. The scale was translated into Hungarian and Serbian. The equality of the meaning of the two scale versions was carefully matched. The results showed that comparing the monolingual group and the bilingual group in the first language there were group differences in Eros and Agape. In the monolingual Hungarian and bilingual Serbian answers we can find the same differences: Eros and Agape were found to be more powerfully expressed in the bilingual group in both of their languages compared to the monolingual group. Considering bilinguals' first and second language results, two styles have been found to differ. These were Mania and Storge, which were present in different amounts in the first and the second language. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that there is a rising number of multiethnic and multicultural intimate relationships. Many of the partners have to use a second language to express love and affection. Expression and understanding of emotions may depend on the language which is used in communication and on cultural variation in values and norms. This research has important implications for the study of ethnocultural differences and first- and second language modulated affective functioning.

African American children’s literature has always been political. Its primary aim is to promote a positive image of black community in the United States, as well as to shape the racial identity of young readers. For many African American authors food has become a metaphor of cultural and emotional bonds, being a source of optimism, pride in being Black and the willingness to struggle with social inequalities. The aim of the article is to discuss the social and political functions of food in African American communities, as shown in selected picture books by black authors and illustrators, such as Nikki Giovanni, Faith Ringgold, Bryan Collier and Oge Mora. The analysis of the relationships between verbal narratives and outstanding illustrations by renown American artists, showing the home space in which food stands for the uniqueness of African American culture, is the main part of the article.

The apiarian vocabulary presented in the paper contains mainly entries from all-Polish language and subdialect, mostly Silesian. The current, official and encyclopaedic naming convention is sup plemented with the historical records from the Polish language dictionaries (dictionaries of the ancient Polish, etymologic dictionaries and onomatologic dictionaries) and juxtaposed with the actual speech of practicing apiarists (background survey). Silesian subdialect material (taken from Słownik Gwar Śląskich published by the Silesian Institute in Opole) is compared (for comparative reasons) with the material obtained from the subdialects of other regions of Poland, such as Łęczyca–Sieradz subdialect, Kurpie subdialect and Podlasie subdialect. The linguistic analysis conducted in the paper increases the knowledge on apiarian vocabulary, constitutes novelty for the apiarists’ environment and presents the information an average user of the Polish language can sparsely be familiar with. It demonstrates the discussed vocabulary over centuries: from the most archival linguistic layer, i.e. expressions connected to honey hunting of the Slavic community period (documents from Słownik Prasłowiański), through the source material of the oldest written records (documents from Słownik Staropolski) to the encyclopaedic apiarian terminology (documents from Encyklopedia Pszczelarska). All these contribute to the richness of the contemporary, specialist all-Polish naming convention. The transition from honey hunting vocabulary to apiarian vocabulary (due to the gradual extinction of the profession of a bee-hunter in the first half of the 20th century and the growing popularity of more comfortable stationary apiculture) is associated with the progress and, simultaneously, the growth of vocabulary marked by moving bees to hives. Universality, homogeneity and intelligibility of the vocabulary among beekeepers from various regions of Poland are supported by access to numerous periodicals (“Pszczelarz Polski”, “Pszczelarstwo”, “Pasieka”, “Bartnik Gdański”, “Journal of Apicultural Science”, etc.) and eased over-regional contacts (the Internet guidance and beekeepers’ “common language”).

The article offers an analysis of the frequency and quality of LGBTQ+ representation in fictional podcasts. I examine how frequently and with what intent LGBTQ+ characters are included in this medium. This research aims to fill the gap in academic work on LGBTQ+ representation in podcasts. Though scholars note an increase in representation in mainstream media, LGBTQ+ media consumers, especially young people, still look to other sources for validation of their identities. Many LGBTQ+ people look to fictional podcasts as a source of quality representation, especially because podcasts are small-scale and rely on the funding, and thus the opinion, of listeners (Bottomley, 2015). In this paper, I analyze four fictional podcast series for LGBTQ+ inclusivity. I note how many LGBTQ+ characters are included and in what proportion. I assess the quality of representation in four ways: diversity, depth, and the frequency and type of stereotypical LGBTQ+ tropes. My findings show a high frequency of LGBTQ+ characters and diversity of personalities and backgrounds, opportunities for these characters to express their sexual and/or gender identities as well as LGBTQ+ trope subversions. Thus, we see that fictional podcasts, as a medium that sustains itself by listeners’ patronage, present stories that their audience can relate to. As a result, fictional podcasts create more niche stories that make connections with smaller demographics of media consumers.

The article serves as an analysis of Familia, a Polish independent fiction podcast from 2020 produced by the Teraz Poliż theatre as a response to increase of state supported homophobic propaganda in the recent years. By pointing out similarities and differences between the podcast in question and mainstream Polish audio series, as well as drawing comparisons to popular globally distributed independent audio fiction produced in English, the author aims to prove the unique position of Familia as a sole representative of a politically conscious podcast drama presenting a specifically Polish perspective on queer emancipation. The author then proceeds to analyse the narrative content of the podcast, presenting the ways in which the story plays with elements of traditional, Polish national identity, reframing them via a radical lens as potential symbolic tools for LGBTQ+ emancipation and antifascist resistance in everyday life, while at the same time warning of the limited scope of use for such tools.

I Am in Eskew is the epitome of an independent podcast, written, produced and performed by two people – Jon Ware and Muna Hussen. It tells the story of David Ward (Jon Ware), a man trapped in the city of Eskew, where nightmares become real. The story offers manifold answers and interpretations, depending which genre and mode of reception we choose to follow. On a literal level it is a fantasy horror story about a cursed city that tortures its entrapped residents by creating cityscapes full of monsters, spatial and body horror (Eskew as a landscape); on a metaphorical level I Am in Eskew is a representation of mental illness and mental disorders (Eskew as a mindscape). The present article discusses the use of medium in I Am in Eskew and the capabilities of podcasts in creating an immersive horror story (Eskew as a soundscape) as well as possible interpretations of the podcast, focusing on the concept of hostile architecture as an expression of the late capitalist inclination to dehumanize various aspects of human life (space, relationships etc.). The article discusses hostile architecture as a form of narration and narration as a form of hostile architecture through the lense of Derridian hauntology.

The podcast Raport o stanie świata (Report on the State of the World) is a recognizable brand on the Polish media market because of the quality of production and the personality of its creator – Dariusz Rosiak. Raport… is a subjective commentary on world events by Rosiak and his associates. Its recipients are a faithful and very conscious group of listeners who have a clear opinion about this production. This applies especially to the podcast patrons who support its activities financially and guarantee its functioning. The aim of the study was to find out what the patrons’ opinions about the podcast are. In this context, it was also important to check who the respondents are and from what perspective they evaluate it. The members of the research team joined the closed group of patrons of the Raport... on FB. It was used to conduct a survey with 80 respondents. The research took place between May 10 and May 21, 2021. The survey was created and distributed on the Google Forms platform. In addition, four pre-structured interviews with patrons were conducted via the Messenger application, which allowed for the implementation of some qualitative research. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The participants of the research point towards the high professionalism of the production, its educational character, as well as the independence of the creators. They also appreciate the fact that the program is distributed in the form of a podcast, which allows one to peruse it repeatedly, anywhere and anytime.

Czardybon explores the remarkable increase, in twenty-first-century Polish literature,of texts on the national community, its traditions and its history. Following PrzemysławDakowicz, the author of one of these texts, the entirety of these works is described hereas “contemporary national literature”. Besides Dakowicz, Czardybon refers to works byJarosław Marek Rymkiewicz and Wojciech Wencel. Inspired by the Romantic tradition, these writers attempt to create a new national sacred. Czardybon supports his argumentby drawing on narratology, anthropology and history; he also identifies the strategies ofthis sacralisation and formulates proposes a rational for their emergence.

This work proposes to observe the appropriation of the myth of the femme fatale, the great guiding myth of French decadence and its system of symbols in the Brazilian imaginary. Three Brazilian heroines, which fall under the theme of fatality in women, constitute the main corpus of this research: the oblique Capitu, the heroine of Machado de Assis in the novel Dom Casmurro (1900); Gabriela, la mulâtresse de Gabriela, cravo e canela (1958) by Jorge Amado, and Hilda Furacão, the prostitute from the homonymous novel by Roberto Drummond (1991). The echoes of the myth allow us to see that these heroines are fatal women par excellence, their figures moving within an evolving patriarchal society in Brazil.
