The article studies the idea about three great poets from the late period of socialism as a phenolmenon of literary publicity. They are Nikolay Kanchev, Konstantin Pavlov, and Binyo Ivanov. These literary figures are examined from the aspect of the anti-normative behaviour in culture. The second part is devoted to the presence of the Poet in the works of the three great poets. Their literary-historical construct should not be just a memory. We are obliged to express its topical meanings as well.

The article focuses on the question of the possibility of speaking about feminine postmodernism in Bulgarian literature. “Is there a feminine postmodernist poetry?” The answer to this question could partially solve the broader literary-historical problem of the possibilities of women poets (how? since when? at last) to make avant-garde within Bulgarian literature. The feminine poetry from the early 1990s is somehow situated in a place where modernity, postmodernism and innovation meet.

The paper presents the historical books of Southern Orthodox Slavic people published during the Eighteenth century. The first published book on the history of Bulgarians was the work written by Jovan Rajić as a separate part of his work on the history of Southern Slavs in which the author is oriented toward the Nord-Western region of Bulgarian land where his father was born in a poor Bulgarian family. No data presents the possible personal contacts between Paisius and Rajić.

In this study on Angel Karaliichev literary critic Simeon Soultanov wrote that, in order to illustrate his idea of literature that elevates our souls, Emilian Stanev first listed the names of Vazov and Yovkov, and then added the names of Elin Pelin and Angel Karaliichev. "But what does Bilgarian writes mean?" the critic asks and answers: "the more pottery, baggy trousers and woolly caps there were, the more customs were reproduced, the more a writer was one of the people... Maybe, the aspect of the people lives particularly in the Bulgarian national character, too, has different aspects. Numerous faces." (Султанов: 1987:269). In his three stories published in 'Makedonia' newspaper, Karaliichev drew the painting of the multifaceted life of the exiled Macedonian Bulgarians. Defiled and tortured, denigrated and divided, Macedonia eternally remained of the highest standing in Bulgarian hearts.

Ivailo Petrov's novel 'Wolf Hunt' is a dramatic saga with a story covering a long and contradictory period of Bulgarian history, from the first years after World War II to 1965. The fates of Ivan Shibilev, Mona Zhendo, Kalcho, Nikolin, Stoyan Kralev and their sons and daoughters intertwine and grow apart in passions and conflicts. This book is the story of people who are born during a totalitarian regime or die, frequently because of what they love. The hunt is the symbol of their thirst for revenge, the Old Testament 'an eye for an eye', with the outcome/redemption being presented as a pain of the soul caused by the loss of human happiness. The study discusses the presence of biblical motifs and images and the manner in which the author of the novel works with them. The moral categories through which each individual considers his/her life are skilfully woven in the book by the careful use of biblical symbols and messages. The characters in 'Wolf Hunt' fully experience the passions and sufferings of the Old Testament characters, thereby redeeming the original human sin.

The present paper entitled “Exaltaions about Name: or, Two Contemporary Anthologies Dedicated to the Apostle and Beyond Them” comments the existence/non-existence of interest about the historical figure and life's work of Vasil Levski as a thematic field in Bulgarian poetry in the last few years. The observations, made on the basis of separate works of art, books and virtual sites, are a scientific attempt to outline the profile of current trends. These trends are combining aesthetic and socio-political attitudes towards the figure of the Bulgarian national hero.

The focus of the current study is the perception of the Italian literary classics by influential figures in Bulgarian literature like Iv. Vazov, K. Velichkov, P. Yavorov, P. P. Slaveykov and K. Hristov. It is traced in several aspects – preferences for specific authors, translation activity and literary criticism. In various sources, the Bulgarian classical authors displayed an affinity for Dante, F. Petrarca, T. Tasso, U. Foscolo, G. Leopardi and the “national poet of Italy” G. Carducci. Their works were distributed in Bulgaria through the translations of Vazov, Velichkov and Hristov. In some cases, the foreign classical authors had an inspiring effect on the original works of established Bulgarian writers. Thus, for example, Vazov immortalized in verse Dante, Tasso and Leopardi. Velichkov eulogized Dante and Petrarca, and Slaveykov – Michelangelo. Velichkov wrote a critical sketch of Dante, Hristov – of Foscolo, and Yavorov translated a feature story about Carducci.

Fairies are ambivalent (malignant–benevolent) mythological female creatures connected to nature. Their ambivalent character is connected to men’s ambivalent relationship toward nature, which is closely linked to female archetype. The paper deals with the ideological and aesthetical aspect of fairy–characters in two Pelin’s novels with the same title — Fairy — and their role in his conceptualization of the clash between culture and nature, and also the clash between rural and urban, which is closely connected to it.

Among the texts known to the Slavic people and ascribed to Athanasius of Alexandria there are seven that we find included in the medieval Triodion homiliaries. With the exception of one homily (i.e. Homily on the Betrayal of Jude), all of them were part of the Triodion Panegeric (Hilandar MS, Ohio, HM.SMS.404), whose origin is connected to the Patriarch Euthymius of Tarnovo and whose texts were later included in various Bulgarian, Serbian, and (sometimes) Russian miscellanea up until the XVII century. To have this many texts of Athanasius within one sbornik is quite unusual both for the Church Typica, and for the known Greek Homiliaries. It is suggested that this fact points to a unique feature of the type of Panegirics that were produced in the literary circle of scribes in Tarnovo.

The study is an essay to draw a classification of the lexemes with foreign origin, mostly Greek and Latin, according to the 13th original works of Patriarch Eythymius. Those lexical strata englobe multifunctional and nonhomogeneous unities, dispersed in different textual contexts. They are just a nuance, not the base of the vocabulary, but perform important historical, cognitive, and stylistic functions, rising the prestige of the lexical richness, and crediting it with international dimensions in basic conceptual spheres of Christianity.

In 2020, 160 years have passed since the day Grigor Stavrev Parlichev (18 January 1830 – 25 January 1893) won the laurel wreath at the Rallis poetry competition, organized by the University of Athens in the mid-19th century. The focus of this article is not so much on the life and work of the outstanding Bulgarian National Revival leader, writer, poet, translator, teacher and public figure, about whom a lot has been written over the years, but on the literary life in Greece at that time, as well as on the poetry contest itself and its patron and sponsor Ambrosios Rallis.

In the early years of Bulgaria’s political transition (1989–2007), writing for the theatre was in a situation substantially different from the developments happening on the theatre stage. While the latter, especially during the first ten years after the political changes, went through a period of rapid resurgence and intense and profound transformation, playwriting suffered a deep existential crisis. In the plays of those authors who had established their names prior to 1989, the crisis manifested itself as a traumatic need for a desperate revision of the past and for a pessimistic end to it. The main image of the transition imposed by these dramatic texts is of filial guilt – the guilt of children towards their parents, and the apocalyptic irreparability of the broken relationship between them. For the young generation of playwrights of the 1990s and those who came after them, the obsessive image of filial guilt was no longer familiar. They outlined a different emblematic image of the transition – that of the cosmopolitan homeless person. In their plays, children and parents live together, sharing a common space and time, their roles alarmingly mixed up. The image of the cosmopolitan homeless person has retained its presence, albeit in a new way, in the dramatic texts written after the beginning of the 21st century, where it is manifested mostly in the sharing and immediate experience of personal stories. Out of the emblematic perspectives and images of the transition in Bulgarian drama from the period 1989–2007, the only one retained in today’s writing for the stage, though in various different transformations, is that of the cosmopolitan homeless person. By contrast, the image of filial guilt has long disintegrated and is now forgotten, while the endeavour to distance and forget the past has been replaced by the theatre’s newly awakened critical attitude towards the processes and the complex dynamic developments current in the modern world.
