Przyczynek do badań nad ramą wydawniczą utworów dramatycznych Wincentego Ignacego Marewicza

The paper aims to promote a neglected, and consequently little‑known, writer of the period of the Polish Enlightenment – Wincenty Ignacy Marewicz (1775–1822), the author of, among others, poems, writings in verse and prose, a collection of sayings, as well as comedies, dramas and an opera. The publication discusses some of the elements of the publishing framework (including dedications, prefaces, epigraphs, and lists of works already published) which the writer used in his dramatic works and which include important information about him, his work and life. The paper is a kind of reconnaissance to pave the way for further research on the above‑mentioned subject.

Zapomniany panegiryk Ignacego Srzednickiego ku czci Kazimierza Nestora Sapiehy

Muza w kościele. Poetycka gratulacja Franciszka Dionizego Kniaźnina z okazji konsekracji Księdza Adama Stanisława Naruszewicza Biskupa Koadiutora Smoleńskiego

The Ode written by Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin is the last one in the series of six odes entitled For the occasion of consecration of priest Adam Stanisław Naruszewicz, the Archbishop coadjutor of Smoleńsk (Z okoliczności tejże [konsekracji Ks(iędza) A(dama) S(tanisława) Naruszewicza B(iskupa) K(oadiutora) S(moleńskiego)]. The odes were published in 1775 in the magazine ‘Pleasant and useful games’ („Zabawy Przyjemne i Pożyteczne”). They are a poetic account of a celebration held on 25th or 28th May 1775 in St. John’s collegiate church in Warsaw and at the same time panegyric praising merita of the poet Bishop. The work is very interesting especially as a documentary as it lists names of guests that gathered for the celebrations, one of which was the king Stanisław August Poniatowski. It also shows relationships among the elite of the capital city at the time. It is worth noting that the way of illustrating is typical for Kniaźnin in a sense and introduces mythological elements in the description of religious celebration.

Nie tylko „Czarna Mańka”. Twórczość i zaangażowanie Czesława Gumkowskiego wobec wyzwań łódzkich realiów Wielkiej Wojny.

Czeslaw Gumkowski was without a doubt one of the most interesting figures in the world of journalism and literature in Lodz from the period of the World War I and the interwar period. His works are an interesting document of the era in which he lived. Gumkowski is only known as an author of the ballad titled „The Black Manka”. Besides the mentioned ballad though, Gumkowski was publishing mainly in local newspapers. In his texts he often discussed current events, including political ones. This makes his works an interesting source of information about the history of Lodz in 1914–1918. The writer also engaged in numerous cultural and social projects.

Bohater o "stopach z wiatru". O ruchu w twórczości Tomasza Różyckiego - Dwanaście stacji, Bestiarium, Tomi. Notatki z miejsca postoju

The subject of the article is a presentation of selected works of the contemporary artist against the background of the travel motif. Różycki describes himself as a peripatetic, and transfers that feature to the subjects of his texts. The theme of the journey is one of the most important themes of Różycki's works, manifesting not only in physical wandering, but also in mental travel. This sketch presents selected works in the context of a journey to many geographical spaces and as memorable treks seeking to get to know their own identity. An important element is the presentation of the context of family memories, focusing on the theme of migration from the Kresy Wschodnie to Upper Silesia (Opole). The movement in Różycki's works presents the need for contemporary man to move as a way to determine his own identity.

In the paper the author interprets a number of Stanisław Lem's works, trying to liberate himself from humanistic trails and head towards posthumanistic reading. The problem of rationality present in many Lem's texts is a good demonstration of this possibility. In Golem XIV, Observation on the Spot, Solaris, Lem argues, in various manners, with the anthropocentric vision of the mind, arguing that it is too narrow, limiting and intellectually confusing. This makes man face a challenge of giving up man's universalistic claims, but also of reflecting on man's place in reality.

The objective of this article is to interpret the early novel by Stanisław Lem, Eden, in the context of the development of new media and advanced mass communication techniques. How are Lem's conclusions, made over a half century ago, reflected in the media reality of the 21st century? Have Lem's predictions regarding the evolution of information society proven true? Are the media a relevant reference point in the Solaris author's prose? The answers to these questions are in some sense provided by the discussion of the novel Eden, in which people try to make contact with the inhabitants or an unknown planet - neither science, nor the achievements of modern technology are useful in this, somewhat difficult, task.

Solaryzm teraz!

Based on the Deleuzean and Simondonian interpretation of Lem's Solaris as the issue of contact with what goes beyond the anthropocentric finiteness, the article formulates a category of “solarism”, useful in diagnosing the problems of contemporary philosophy and allowing to capture specific configurations of selected phenomena of culture and art. The article makes a preliminary recognition of the capital-centric contemporaneity and then follows Lem's reception in the science of media and culture. These deliberations become a context for the analysis of Solaris, which leads to capturing material traits of solarism, understood as a-humanism and inhumanism. In turn, this specific understanding of logic behind Solaris sets the direction for the analysis of the phenomena of contemporary cinema, using David Lynch's Twin Peaks The Return and Alex Garland's Annihilation as an example.

The question is whether it is for sure a just assessment, formulated by professor Allan Shapiro, associated with the mysterious Lunar Agency.

Zagadnienia istotne is a collection of articles by Bolesław Piasecki from 1945-1953, originally published in Dziś i Jutro and Słowo Powszechne. The book was published by Wydawnictwo Pax [Pax Publishing House] in December 1954. Six months later, the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Offi ce banned the volume. The essence of the book and the cause of the controversies to which it gave rise was an extensive preface (thoroughly discussed in this article) written by the author in the convention of a political, philosophical and theological dissertation. The coherent intellectual program included in the preface apparently legitimizes participation of a declared Catholic in the discourse conducted by the communist authorities. The coherence in question results from a series of semiotic operations that enable a carefully prepared plane for the coexistence of two conflicting axiologies: the Marxist-Leninist and the Catholic ones. The present article is an analysis of these operations.

Rekonstrukcja prehistorii polskiego comparatiwu w ujęciu profesora Jerzego Kuryłowicza

This article summarizes and critically discusses Jerzy Kuryłowicz’s views on the origin of the Polish (Slavic, Indo-European) comparative. Above all, the hypothesis concerning the emergence of the Proto-Indo-European suffix *-i̯os- (Slavic *-’ьš-, Polish -sz-) has been challenged. Furthermore, the source of the extension within the Slavic suffix *-ě-jьš- (Polish -ejsz-) and accentological issues (with particular emphasis on the Polish material) have been discussed. The question of originality of the hypotheses presented in Kuryłowicz’s works has also been addressed.

Dlaczego „Janusz Korczak”?

The article presents Janusz Korczak’s private and family connections with the figure and literary creativity of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. The starting point here is the choice of the pseudonym adopted from one of Kraszewski’s novels entitled “Historia o Janaszu Korczaku i pięknej miecznikównie” (“Janasz Korczak and the Pretty Swordsweeperlady”). Contrary to the common opinion, the choice was not accidental as it marked the bonds that linked the future writer with Kraszewski. The ideology of Jewish integration movement the advocates of which were Korczak’s father and his paternal uncle (Józef and Jakub Goldszmit, journalists of “Izraelita”) further added to with ideology which was also supported by Kraszewski. Korczak and Kraszewski’s common places also include the defence of subjective character of emancipation encompassing the commonalty, the Jews, and children.
