The problem of Gogol’s influence on Karavelov’s writing process of his best short novel “Old Time Bulgarians” is over interpreted in the comparative studies of Bulgarian-Russian literary connections. The present research offers new empirical facts, which broadens the idea of the reception of Gogol’s artistic tradition from the Bulgarian writer. The motives of time, gossips and demonic are analyzed. It is proved that Karavelov purposively doesn’t hide the signs of Gogolian, because he thinks of it as a high aesthetic norm, which is necessary also and for the development of Bulgarian national literature.

This paper focuses on two key notions in the oeuvre of Georgi Gachev, presented in a broader context – ‘accelerated development’ and ‘national image of the world’, on the evolution in Gachev’s thinking, that reveal high self-confidence and could even be labeled as “colonialist’s”. These two ideas are interconnected, but there is also some tension between them. The accelerated development presuppose evolution towards a universal construction (modern European literature); national images, on the contrary, problematize the universal in behalf of the local, national, that is seen as primordial and has its constant (if not eternal) invariant.

Particularități și aspecte ale traducerii filmului ,,Apărătorul galactic’’ în limba română

This paper is a linguistic analysis on five linguistic levels, accompanied by a brief introduction into the world of visual effects and the „art of subtitling”. The main reason for choosing this theme is that 2021 was celebrated as the Year of the Cosmos in Russia, being the 60th anniversary of the first man (Yuri Gagarin) in space. However, my main motivation for tackling this topic was the fact that the only Romanian subtitles available online for this film contain many mistakes and inconsistencies. The aim of my paper is to demonstrate that subtitling is a very complex branch of translation, deserving of exploration.

De la „nebunie” la „boală psihică” în ,Ffloarea roșie’’ de V. Garșin și ,,Nălucile’’ de L. Andreev

This paper examines the theme of madness in two important texts from Russian literature of the late 19th and early 20th century: The Red Flower (1883) by Vsevolod Garshin and Ghosts (1904) by Leonid Andreyev. As I demonstrate in the comparative analysis of these stories, the depiction of madness changes as Russian literature moves away from realism to modernism, and so does its significance. The essay also touches upon the implications of the social and cultural climate at the time of the stories' appearance. In the article I am applying the concepts of deviance and norm formulated by Michel Foucault and Lucian Boia's views on the imaginary, identity and alterity.

Percepția timpului în romanul ,,Oblomov’’ de Ivan Goncearov: idealismul oblomovist în contrast cu pragmatismul german

Time is regarded as a relative dimension, manipulated by one’s view. Oblomov, written by Ivan Goncharov, presents life’s cyclicity versus its linearity through two relevant characters: Oblomov and Stolz. The two, although friends, are different in terms of perspectives. Oblomov believes he has infinite time, whereas Stolz acts according to his priorities, always feeling the pressure of a life that needs to be lived in a way that matters. While Stolz strives to usefully contribute to society, Oblomov lives inside his mind and finds refuge in it. Goncharov thus illustrates two alternatives for Russia’s future. Starting from the way time is perceived by the protagonists, we understand their perspectives on life and can compare the utility of each in society.

In this article, I analyze some of the poems of Zinaida Hippius to demonstrate that her writing style is more decadent than symbolic. I present both the symbolic and decadent elements in order to highlight the fact that her poetry was more inclined to the decadent movement than the symbolic one.

Joseph Conrad, who shared strong affinities with Ivan Turgenev because of his objective evaluation of Russia and the West, openly articulated his hatred towards Fyodor Dostoevsky, who never concealed his hearty dislike and dis- trust of Poles and the West. The Russian writer’s hatred for Poland and the Poles was so vehement that it might be called pathological. In Poland and in the Polish character, Dostoevsky singled out only the negative elements, form- ing from these shortcomings the notorious types of his “Polyachishki.” Con- rad may have known from his maternal uncle Tadeusz Bobrowski, who after Apollo Korzeniowski’s death became Conrad’s guardian, mentor and adviser, that Dostoevsky violently attacked, and in his novel The Brothers Karamazov parodied in the person of the lawyer Fetyukovich, Bobrowski’s good friend Włodzimierz Spasowicz—a prominent lawyer, liberal politician, journalist, and literary critic. The enmity between Spasowicz and Dostoevsky was public knowledge, and although Spasowicz recognized in Dostoevsky a great writer, he, similarly to Conrad, admired pro-Western Turgenev.

РЕЦЕПЦИЯ «ПОЭТИКИ» АРИСТОТЕЛЯ В РАБОТАХ ЛИЦЕЙСКИХ УЧИТЕЛЕЙ А. С. ПУШКИНА

The first half of the XIX century is the period of formation of Russian literary criticism. However, the works of theorists from this significant period have practically not been studied. This gap is especially significant when it is associated with teachers who had a significant impact on the formation of literary concepts of several generations of philologists. All of this substantiates the relevance and novelty of the research topic. The article describes the reception of the main provisions of Aristotle’s Poetics, which formed the basis for the European literary theory of literature, in the works of the Imperial Lyceum’s teachers N. F. Koshansky and A. I. Galich. It is noted that Aristotle was an absolute authority for these two authors, however, the assimilation of this Greek philosopher’s conceptual system took place in the context of its interpretation by European aesthetic theories. Thus, Koshansky agrees with Aristotle in that art brings us pleasure, and this idea supports the hedonistic theory of catharsis reflected in Koshansky’s works. Galich, being a Schellingist, develops the idea of German romanticism about fate as the primary force opposing the hero of tragedy, and at the same time defends the classic rule of three unities absent from Aristotle’s works.

On Some Pitfalls and Paradoxes of Comparative Literary Analysis (the Case Study of Anton Chekhov)

The article is preoccupied by the problem of comparative analysis in the case of a writer as elusive as Chekhov, who does not formulate an open ideological message and generally withdraws his authorial voice. It raises the questions of what constitutes true kinship and similarity and highlights the vital importance of discerning above all the aesthetic aspect of the work, its poetics and artistic truth which take precedence over any structural or ideological considerations. To this end, various misconceptions and cases of false kinship are discussed, followed by examples of true continuity. In these examples, a close affinity is demonstrated through proximity of both ethics and aesthetics of the writers in question, and close textual comparisons are conducted. The next category discussed in the article addresses a paradox of simultaneously occurring rejection (or dislike) at one level, and real artistic closeness at another. We conclude by some general remarks on the nature of comparative analysis and offer another demonstration of stylistic proximity between two great writers, whose stylistics turns out to be so close that it is hard to tell them apart. We suggest that such parallels are not accidental, as form is inseparable from content, just as ethics is inseparable from aesthetics, and it is ultimately the artistic truth of the works under comparison that should always be kept strongly in focus.

L’Oeuvre de A. L. Kaplan dans de nouvelles acquisitions littéraires du Musée Juif d’Etat

The article reviews the work of Anatolij Lvovič Kaplan, a Soviet graphic artist who created original lithographic cycles inspired by Jewish culture and literature. The article focuses on two of his works based on the novels of Scholom Alejchem: "Stempenju" and "Die Wunder von Chanukka". The article analyzes how Kaplan transformed the characters and themes of Alejchem's stories into his own artistic vision, expressing deep human questions and emotions. The article also compares Kaplan's style to that of Marc Chagall, highlighting their similarities and differences.

O pamięci i postpropagandzie: Блокада Ленинграда. Детская книга Grigorija Piernawskiego

The article discusses the book The Leningrad Blockade. Children’s Book (2019) by Grigory Piernavsky. It analyses the structure, content organization, bricolage form, and, most importantly, the way of talking about the siege of the city proposed by the author. The analysis shows that the content of the discussed publication fits closely into the official discourse of Russian historical policy, referring to the Great Patriotic War. Comments on the book were related to the functioning of collective memory, propaganda, and postpropaganda.

It is a kind of attempt to compare evaluative readings and judgments, which mainly affect the novel’s intertextuality (a parallel with Raskolnikov), the modern realities of Russia, and the problems of technical evolution. This analysis considers the artistic embodiment of the PSTR in modern prose, in the Text, and contributes to the relationship between literature and medical humanities.

Specyfika metaforyzacji konceptów ZJAWISKO PRZYRODY w rosyjskim dyskursie poetyckim (modelowanie metaforyczne) - ZIMA

The aim of the article is to analyze the methods of metaphorizing the concept of NATURE PHENOMENON that characterizes WINTER in the Russian poetic discourse. The following concepts are subject to description: SNOW, BLIZZARD (SNOWFLAKE), FROST, HOARFROST, ICE, SNOWDRIFT, HAIL, WINTER (CНЕГ, ВЬЮГА, ПУРГА, МЕТЕЛЬ, БУРАН, МОРОЗ, ИНЕЙ, ЛЁД, СУГРОБ, ГРАД, ЗИМА). The subject of the analysis is the so far not studied specificity (modeling) of combinatorics of metaphorical patterns in poetic texts in semantic and cognitive terms. The material for analysis consists of 172 metaphorical expressions (conceptual metaphors). The source domain was used as the basis for metaphorical modeling, and therefore the division of conceptual metaphors into anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, phytomorphic, naturomorphic and artifactual (object) metaphors was used. The result of the article is the distinction of mono- and polymetaphores containing an incorporation and correlation metaphorical model (single- and different-type binary and tertiary models).

Soviet Criminal Law in the Eyes of a Gulag Prisoner: Alexandr Solzhenitsyn’s Lecture on Criminal Law in Light of “The Gulag Archipelago”

In his monumental non-fiction book, The Gulag Archipelago, Nobel Prize-winning author Alexandr Solzhenitsyn illustrates real events in Soviet labor camps in literary form. The depiction of EVIL is shocking. The totalitarian Soviet regime subjected millions of people to a horrific fate. As is generally well-known, A. Solzhenitsyn spent eight years in a Soviet concentration camp. Mass terror was the es- sence of Soviet totalitarianism. A. Solzhenitsyn included a lecture on Soviet criminal law in his book, stressing the importance of Article 58 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union in authorizing this terrorism. Solzhenitsyn himself was not a lawyer. However, his conclusions were very accurate. Article 58 of the Criminal Code, which consisted of seventeen paragraphs, defined “counter-revolutionary offenses.” They were obviously punished most severely. Article 58 became a weapon of terror for the Soviet authorities, who used it to convict millions of innocent people.
