Néhány gondolat a kisebbségi magyar nyelvváltozatok „stílusának” oktatásáról
It is a well-known fact that bilingualism and diglossia are both simultaneously characteristic for communities using variants of Hungarian as a minority language. This can be most notably seen in their use of vocabulary. Nevertheless, with a few exceptions, neither majority nor minority Hungarian language teaching pays due attention to this phenomenon; and when it does, it does it in a condemning or stigmatising way. Regrettably, textbooks also follow this trend, that is, language use differing from the standard is stigmatised and considered norm-breaking, which is very harmful for both majority and minority language users. The aim of this paper is to analyse parts of two minority Hungarian textbooks where bilingualism and diglossia are treated regarding aspects of style - either explicitly or implicitly. By this, the paper draws attention to possibilities that may help, at least the minority Hungarian communities, to be more acceptable of their own language use.
