A fundamental role in the life of every human being full of religious and moral education. This will include education and persons with intellectual disabilities. Here lies a great role for those who have close contact with people with disabilities, especially in the immediate family. On it rests a great responsibility for the development of the people, including the responsibility for their education. Religious and moral education of the mentally handicapped is also the duty of the Church, which seeks to create every human person, with a view to its ultimate goal. Therefore, the aim of this publication is to present the role of the family and the Church in the religious and moral education of people with intellectual disabilities.

Rola ojca na podstawie XX homilii św. Jana Złotoustego do Listu do Efezjan

The division of family responsibilities, which are designed for each household member and harmonious family relationships are one of the most important keynotes of St. John’s Chrysostom preaching. In order to explain this issue he wrote homily on the Epistle to the Ephesians. According to it, the role of father in household is based on following Christ. Husbant’s relationship to his wife, especially respect for her, should be built by analogy to the relationship between Christ and the Church. The author calls the family a “small church”, comparing it to the Church as the Mystical Body. Living of the “small Church” is permeated with prayer and Holy Scripture reading. Firstly husband – the head of the family, performs the following Christian actions: reads inspired texts, strengthens himself by the sacrament of the Eucharist (that is, he takes the Holy Communion). Marriage and family seen as a “community of life and love” encourage, from the perspective of today developing theology of communion, to multiple reflection, research and studies. This study treats of only few issues among many which require thorough reflection and analyzes. Issues related with theology of marriage communion and family are in particular referred to the mystery of the Trinity and the Church. The theme: “loneliness of man” in the context of such an event like marriage and family is one of the discussed issues. The whole study is closed by three specific issues which are a kind of tension posed by the contemporary world and with whom mankind must inevitably confront in the practice of human life. A man is created and made able to form relationships in the communion. These issues are: education in the field of emotions, human carnality and “narcissism of partners.”

The discussion on the functioning of the modern family hasn’t become weaker for the last years – although its meaning has been emphasized, a threat to realization of its upbringing care function has been simultaneously pointed out. Young people decide to start a family but very often they aren’t prepared for the challenges which are put by a society. It concerns particularly the parental function – more and more children need a foster family which will surround them most of all with love and provide a feeling of security. Does the functioning in a foster family differ from the life in a family of origin? If positive, what should be done to minimize these differences? Is it possible at all? Finally – is there a difference in realization of the education care function between “yesterday” and “today”? The article will try to give an answer for the outlined questions.

This article discusses the role of the family in the process of assistance related to the direction of education and the profession young people with physical disabilities choice. For this group, as future employees – well educated young people with disabilities – entering into the labor market sometimes is long and often fails. There is the significant role of the family as a supportive environment. The particular attention was paid to the discussion of the factors affecting the educational and professional choices, among others: parents’ educational level, the choice of field of study and occupations of family members, the situation of social household family, parents satisfaction with career choices investigated, and others. In addition, the review of the possibilities for career development of people with disabilities on the basis of system support has been made during those considerations.

Dobro potomstwa w kanonicznym prawie małżeńskim. Próba syntezy

Following the directions of the Second Vatican Council, the current ecclesiastical legislation states in canon 1055 § 1 that the institution of marriage is, in its very nature, apt for bonum prolis and bonum coniugum. This publication presents the characteristic change (evolution) that has been taking place in canon law in relation to the procreative good. This change is often described as a transition from the purely biological dimension into a personalistic one. In the patristic thought and medieval canon studies, the marital inter courses were considered to be a remedy for lust (remedium concupiscentiae); however, through their aptness for new life, these acts became fully lawful (legal), and they were even a duty. This idea was adopted by the 1917 Code of Canon Law, which, in canon 1086 § 2, equated the procreative good with the right over the body (ius in corpus). As the analysis has shown, such a way of dealing with this question proved to be insufficient, as it did not consider a situation in which the spouses do not exclude the right to marriage acts itself, but they have an intention against the procreation of a child (e.g. by performing an abortion). The above mentioned lack or insufficiency was complemented by the new 1983 Code. According to its norms (regulations), the procreative good should be perceived in relation to a fruitful marriage act, in which the spouses mutually give themselves to each other and mutually accept their gifts of self. Thus, it is better to talk about the openness to life or potential maternity and paternity than about a right over the body, because in such an approach, having children is an affirmation of a mutual communion of persons. It is also worth mentioning that the canonical doctrine and the Vatican II documents uni vocally connect the procreative good with the duty of bringing up the children.

Tema ovoga broja časopisa Društvena istraživanja jest Međugeneracijska obiteljska solidarnost u Europi. Međugeneracijska obiteljska solidarnost konstrukt je koji uključuje odnose među članovima obitelji i njihovu međusobnu razmjenu: odnose baka i djedova i njihove unučadi, socijalnu podršku, kvalitetu bračnoga zadovoljstva, međugeneracijske razlike, važnost kvalitete odnosa starih osoba i njihove odrasle djece. Kvaliteta života starijih članova obitelji povezana je s reciprocitetom u odnosima: štosu stariji uključeniji u obitelj, to su zadovoljniji životom, a to se onda odražava na mlađe generacije, ali i obratno. Tekstovi u ovom tematskom broju objedinjuju suvremeni pogled na odnose u obitelji, opisane u modelu međugeneracijske solidarnosti američkoga znanstvenika Verna L. Bengtsona. Dimenzije modela jesu čestina kontakata, emocionalna blizina, sličnost u mišljenu, geografska blizina, primanje pomoći / davanje pomoći, kontakti, blizina, tj. čimbenici povezani s kvalitetom života u raznim razdobljima životnoga ciklusa pojedinca.

The Theme

Intergenerational Family Solidarity across Europe is the theme of this issue of the journal Društvena istraživanja. Intergenerational family solidarity is a construct that includes relationships among family members and their mutual exchange: relations of grandparents and their grandchildren, social support, quality of marital satisfaction,intergenerational differences, the importance of the quality of relations of the elderly and their adult children. The quality of life of older family members is linked to reciprocity in relationships, the more involved the older members are in the family, the more satisfied with life they are; this is then reflected in different ways in the younger generations and vice versa. The texts in this issue combine a contemporary view of family relationships, described in the model of intergenerational solidarity by US scientist Vern L. Bengtson. The dimensions of this model are frequent contacts, emotional proximity, similarity in thought, geographical proximity, receiving help / helping,contacts, proximity, i.e. different factors associated with the quality of life at different periods of an individual's life cycle.

Intergenerational Solidarity in Adulthood: The Role of Family Norms in Intergenerational Support and Ambivalence

Starting from Bengtson's solidarity paradigm, we will investigate the role of internalized family norms in intergenerational support as well as experienced ambivalence from the adult child perspective. We assume that internalized family norms are an important determinant of relationship regulation as they have an impact both on the selection of specific behavior as well as on its evaluation. As a consequence, own and others' behavior should be most positively evaluated if it is in line with internalized norms and values. In contrast, if intergenerational solidarity and support exchange do not converge with internalized norms and expectations, ambivalence might be experienced. These assumptions are examined in a sample of N = 131 middle-aged adults living in Luxembourg and Germany. Findings showed that normative aspects of intergenerational solidarity were less important compared to affective aspects when predicting support exchange between adult children and their parents; however, family values had a moderating role in the relation between support exchange and ambivalence. Results are discussed with respect to the centrality of values in implicitly and explicitly guiding support behavior within families.

Characteristics and Determinants of Intergenerational Financial Transfers Within Families Using Mixed Care for Elderly People

The provision of care to dependent elderly parents or parents-in-law is an important part of intergenerational exchange within families, especially in countries where the long-term care system is based predominantly on family care. However, in mixed-care networks, care tasks are shared between family members and formal carers. Additionally, adult children may need to financially help their parents, especially due to the financial burden that formal care places on the elderly. We used the Slovenian national survey of social home care users and their family members,collected in 2013, to observe the characteristics and determinants of intergenerational financial transfers in families that use mixed care, within dyads comprising a care recipient and a family caregiver. The findings show that there is a considerable proportion of financial exchange among the observed dyads. Furthermore, among the determinants, the income of the elderly person and amount of care received are important for financial flows upward (to the elderly parent) and downward (from the elderly parent). The concurrent flows differ; their main determinants are the carer's age, household size and education.

The Relationship between Social Support and Subjective Well-Being across the Lifespan

The aim of this study was to examine how social support measured as the subjective assessment of social support adequacy given by family, friends or significant others contributes to well-being (happiness, life satisfaction and domain satisfactions)across the life span. The study was conducted on a representative sample of the Croatian adult population (N = 1.000).For the purpose of analyses the sample was divided into three age groups: 18 to 40 years, 41 to 60 years, and 60+ years. The results were analyzed by means of multiple group structural equation modeling, which was performed separately for two measures of subjective well-being (SWB – a general measure of life satisfaction and happiness, PWI – domain satisfactions). The results showed that in all three age groups, among three sources of social support only the perceived social support from friends was significantly related to both subjective well-being measures. Participants who perceived adequate social support from friends expressed higher levels of subjective well-being.

Uloga nade i samopoštovanja u odnosu ekonomskoga pritiska i zadovoljstva životom adolescenata

Cilj je rada bio provjeriti jesu li nada i samopoštovanje moderatori i/ili medijatori u odnosu doživljenoga ekonomskog pritiska i zadovoljstva životom adolescenata. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 348 djece (219 djevojaka) prosječne dobi od 15 godina iz sedam osnovnih i četiri srednje škole s područja Grada Zagreba i okolice. Za mjerenje doživljaja ekonomskoga pritiska upotrijebljeno je osam pokazatelja ekonomskih ograničenja iz Upitnika odgovora na stres (Wadsworth i Compas, 2002). Nada je mjerena Skalom nade za djecu (Snyder i sur., 1997), samopoštovanje kratkom verzijom Rosenbergove skale samopoštovanja (Rosenberg i sur., 1989), a zadovoljstvo životom Kratkom multidimenzionalnom skalom zadovoljstva životom za djecu (Selingson i sur., 2003). Rezultati pokazuju kako samopoštovanje nije moderator nego djelomičan medijator u odnosu ekonomskoga pritiska i zadovoljstva životom djevojaka. Nada se također pokazala kao djelomičan medijator, a ne moderator, u odnosu ekonomskoga pritiska i zadovoljstva životom djevojaka i mladića. Dobiveni nalazi pokazuju da se dio negativnog učinka ekonomskog pritiska na zadovoljstvo životom adolescenata može objasniti nepovoljnim učinkom ekonomskoga pritiska na samopoštovanje i nadu kod adolescenata, odnosno smanjivanjem samopoštovanja i nade.

Socialistický model populačnej politiky a reprodukčné správanie na Slovensku

The study examines the development of population policy in socialist Slovakia in connection to reproductive behaviour between 1948 and 1989. The paper analyses the nature and gradual spreading of various types of population measures aimed at pregnant women, the period of childbirth and postnatal care, interruptions, the life of families with children, as well as the entry into the marriage and its legislative extinction. As our contribution has shown during the Socialist regime, a complex system of different forms of population measures was gradually developed. They represented an important part of the overall complex of external factors influencing the intensity, timing and character of the reproductive and family behaviour of the socialist Slovakia.

DEPRESSION AND LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG EMPLOYED AND UNEMPLOYED MARRIED WOMAN IN TURKEY: A GENDER BASED RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN A TRADITIONAL SOCIETY

Expectations based on gender roles are very important in explanation of women's mental problems, just as it is important regarding the discrimination in the division of labour. In this particular study we were investigating the difference in levels of depression and life satisfaction among married employed and unemployed women. We presented theories and explanations as well related researches in this area and employed a quantitative research in order to find out whether employment of married women affects their levels of depression and life satisfaction. The research was conducted in Ankara - Turkey, using two scientific scales; The Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Beck Depression Inventory. We posted and explained five hypotheses in detail. However, the basic attempt was to answer the following research questions: Does employment affect married women’s rates of depression and life satisfaction? Is there any difference between working and nonworking married women in regard to depression and life satisfaction? The research results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between depression and life satisfaction, and there is a negative correlation between depression and life satisfaction in general. Therefore if there is an increase on depression levels, decrease is expected on the level of life satisfaction and vice versa. According to the research results; there is a significant difference between employed and unemployed women on life satisfaction.

БАБУШКА В СИСТЕМЕ ВНУТРИСЕМЕЙНЫХ ОТНОШЕНИЙ: СОЦИОЛОГИЧЕСКИЙ АНАЛИЗ

Based on the data obtained through an empirical study, the paper analyses the place and role of grandmothers in the system of intra-family relations in modern Russia. This survey was a part of the international research project “The value of children and intergenerational relationships”, the Russian part of which was conducted by the team representing the Department of General Sociology and Social Work at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. 100 maternal grandmothers with teenage grandchildren sharing the same households were interviewed. The average age of the respondents was 68 years. The paper discovered that grandmothers badly needed being paid attention to by their relatives while their main mission was to maintain intra-family harmony, often at the cost of their own interests. In 20 % of cases, they demonstrated features of controlling behavior, a tendency to dominate and overestimate the importance of their own experience for subsequent generations. The approach made it possible to reveal the emotional-psychological and utilitarian basis of relations between grandmothers and their grandchildren, the predominance of altruistic intentions in respondents-to-daughters relations, general collectivist orientation in their interaction with the social environment. The limitations in interpreting these data are caused by internal heterogeneity of grandmothers as a social group and the requirements imposed by the methodology used which affected the make-up of the sampling.

КОНЦЕПЦИЯ КАЧЕСТВА СЕМЕЙНОЙ ЖИЗНИ В СОЦИОЛОГИИ: ГЕНДЕРНЫЙ АСПЕКТ

The article is devoted to the development of the concept of assessing family life satisfaction based on gender approach. Proceeding from the research of domestic and foreign scientists, it was concluded that the definition of the level of family life satisfaction is determined by gender imbalance in the social situation of women and men, which has developed in society. The potential of the theory of resources is used to interpret the phenomenon of family life quality. The authors substantiate the conclusion that the exchange of resources in modern Russian families occurs in conditions of gender asymmetry in the distribution of family roles. The theoretical and empirical aspects of the influence of gender roles distribution in the family on the level of family life satisfaction are analyzed. The authors concluded that the development of methods and criteria for assessing family life quality should take into account interests and experiences of men and women.

Do we need more training for interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration prior to implementing any primary care research action?

There has been a continuously increasing focus and discussion on interdisciplinary collaboration in primary care, across various settings and in different forums, during the past few years. Interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration should be a cornerstone of daily practice and context-relevant research. We considered it important for this manuscript to attempt to address some of the key issues linked to the recognised need for competence-based training, focusing on interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration, so as to promote and enhance context-relevant research in primary care. This article provides a general introduction and an overview of this topic, along with some key concepts and operational definitions. These key definitions and their interrelated nature are examined in detail, including those of practice-based research network, patient-centred primary care research, and interdisciplinary partnership for research. Furthermore, this paper outlines the reasons for the strong focus on composition and the development of strategies to enhance the research capacity of interdisciplinary partnerships throughout training. Workforce training, retention and academic collaboration are considered, with a particular focus on primary care, and existing interprofessional relationships and perceptions thereof. Organizational aspects influencing relationships and practice are considered along with their contribution in terms of practice, research and discourse. Finally, conclusions and recommendations, formed under the prism of rapidly changing population needs, person-centred values and the imperative need of bringing innovation to the patient in an effective and efficient manner, are presented for further discussion.

Pravila o međunarodnoj nadležnosti sudova u predmetima izdržavanja djece u pravu Evropske unije i Bosne i Hercegovine

The author analyses the rules on international jurisdiction of courts in cases of obligations related to guardianship over children in EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina. She particularly emphasizes the fact that the Court of Justice of the EU, in interpreting the provisions on international jurisdiction for guardianship over children, has been guided by the proximity criterion, which is realized through the concept of a habitual residence of the child. The author believes that the acceptance of this concept in terms of amending and/or supplementing existing provisions on the international jurisdiction of courts in guardianship cases in BiH legal system would lead to protection of the best interest of the child, which was proclaimed by the highest internal and international legal acts. At the same time, the relevant part of the procedural private international law will be harmonised with the EU acquis.
