In 2022, 200 years are celebrated of the birth of the prominent Sliven resident Dobri Chintulov (1822–1886) – one of the most significant figures of the Bulgarian revival – an eminent teacher, remarkable pedagogue, outstanding patriot, notable public figure and fighter for church independence, inspired rebellious poet. In his poetry, he wrote about the passionate and seething urge of the Bulgarian people for freedom. His songs are accepted as a revelation, and with the sincere patriotic pathos, with the bright heroic romance, with the vivid poetic imagery, with the folk-literary language and the rhythmic verse, they lay the beginning of our new Bulgarian poetry. The biobibliographical index “Dobri Chintulov ” is the first and most complete bibliographic publication reflecting the life and great work of the remarkable Bulgarian, covering the period from 1849 until July 2022. The directory presents 1619 publications written by and about Chintulov in Bulgarian and foreign languages, a brief chronology of his life and creative work, as well as a system of indexes to assist the search of articles about him and his work.

Professor Peter Burke of Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, has been a major influence in shaping cultural history by promoting innovative approaches, expressing a constant desire, or perhaps need, to open history up to neighbouring disciplines, mainly cultural anthropology, sociology and visual studies. This conversation between DTK’s Editor-in-Chief, Veronika Čapská, and Peter Burke was recorded on June 11th 2019 in the welcoming environment of Trinity Hall at the University of Cambridge, where Veronika Čapská held a Visiting Fellowship in 2018–2019. Special thanks are due to DAAD scholar Hanno Balz, who allowed us to conduct the interview in his office. The Covid-19 health crisis and the complications to professional and personal situations that have arisen from it have delayed the publication of this dialogue and turned the process of editing it into a welcome textual and social practice of reconnection at a time when the distance between Prague and Cambridge seemed to be growing ever larger.

Chronicle notes are publishes from the Octoechos of the Begunovtsi Church “St. Nikolay” in the Begunovtsi village, Breznik region. They provide important information about various personalities and historical events in the Breznik region, some of them also in Sofia. The history of the place Begunovtsi is interesting. It was founded by residents of the nearby Nepraznentsi village, who were forced to move out due to anxiety and violence from passing Ottoman turks. In its new place the village was logically named Begunovtsi with two villages in the neighborhood: Dogandzhiyska and Voynichka.

An interesting glance towards the place and role of lie and truth for the construction of the present building of the National library “St. St. Kiril and Metodius” casts in his report the literary critic Yuliy Yordanov – member of the union of the Bulgarian writers. On the basis of thorough research of the problem, the attitude of the public, the actions and inactions of the state institutions towards it and especially the testimony of the informer prof. Todor Borov, who was director of the library in the period 1944–1949, and the construction of the building turned to his own cause, and his own observations on the basis of documents, Yordanov enlightens on key moments of the vicissitude fortune of the library and the accompanying swindles. What attracts is the lively publicistic-essayistic style in which the report is written. This helps it to respond better to the national scientific conference “120 years Todor Borov – a life devoted to knowledge” where topics like challenges and problems of the theory and practice of the Bulgarian bibliography and library science will be discussed.
