Serbia has been destabilized by organized crime, extreme calls for a Greater Serbia from militarist organizations and enraged sports fans who resemble their striking fist. Having been announced for a long time, Belgrade’s first Pride Parade was finally held on October 10th, 2010, followed by varying assessments and comments. The attempt to hold the parade one year ago had failed due to obstructions from right-wing groups and the Internal Aff airs Minister’s unwillingness to give security guarantees. This year’s Parade was also identified as a high-risk event; however, this time the police had got up the courage to accept responsibility for securing the event. Around 5000 police officers were guarding all important institutions throughout the city, including foreign embassies (especially the US Embassy) and parts of the city where participants of the Parade were gathering.

In 2013 it was 60 years since the torturous journey of the Mašín brothers and their friends to West Berlin, which had been preceded by armed resistance operations. In this paper we would like to explore that preceding period, when the youths were coming of age. Somewhat overshadowed by those events, it nevertheless formed their values, opinions and attitudes.

The book concerns the fundamental questions set by the founder of Bulgarian sociology Ivan Hadjiiski: Where are we coming from? What have we gone through? How far have we reached? Where are we going? Sociology is a science in which the person puts his imagination and heuristic potential. Sociology is a craft, in the practice of which the outcome depends on the mastery of the techniques and methodologies, the correct observance of rules and procedures. Sociology is a business that requires certain resources and also can reproduce or increase them. Sociology, however, is something else; it is not only a knowledge of society, but it is a public activity. It loses its meaning beyond the public realization or changes it if this realization does not correspond to the scientific credibility.

In the chapter we describe a process and outcomes of a research project which aimed to find out knowledge about “social housing” for those who are poor, and how we can co-produce, within what action strategies, such knowledge. We take pedagogy of the oppressed as a theoretical grounding. Emancipatory action research is chosen as a research design, specifically theatre of the oppressed: a participatory methodology that can be used for knowledge co-production. In the chapter, we introduce screenplay of theatrical performance Having Home Means Being Housed!. Further, we present business with poverty in flats as a central theme. Specific action strategies were co-developed while performing the play. Key common issues identified within them are decisions not to give up, building solidarity and making the problem public. In the final part of the chapter we discuss the use of theatre of the oppressed as a tool of empowering marginalised communities.

The positions of people are one of the characteristics which are subject to variations. Opinions and attitudes of people are subject to changes, more or less frequent, and under the influence of other groups of people, media, or some other means of information. The most interesting for me are the attitudes toward groups discriminated against, or groups of people in a marginal situation.

In contrast to voluntary migration for education, work or better living conditions, one of the biggest problems of our day is forced migration. Because of wars or hunger, people leave their home country to go to places that they do not know in order to be safe. Cinema is a technical invention, and usually the plots of films come from society’s issues. The science fiction film genre depicts today’s issues in a future setting. In this study, the film District 9 is analysed to understand the representation of aliens trapped on Earth due to the failure of their spaceships, and the resulting response from the institutions and countries hosting them. To analyse the film, the key concepts of science fiction films and asylum seekers are employed.

Mediation is a structured procedure, regardless of the name of the procedure, by which two or more parties to a dispute seek to reach an agreement on their own, on a voluntary basis, on resolving the dispute with the help of a mediator. The mediation procedure can be initiated by the parties themselves, it can be proposed or ordered by a court or it can be prescribed by law. Having in mind this definition, it can be concluded that mediation has long been represented as a way of resolving conflicts around the world, because even without special regulations there was no obstacle for one person (mediator) to help other persons in dispute to, peacefully and without engagement of the state apparatus, resolve its dispute in a mutually satisfactory manner. Unlike court proceedings in which one always wins and one always loses, in the mediation procedure both parties will be satisfied with the way the dispute between them is resolved, that is, both parties will win the dispute, because they will have the opportunity to influence the procedure and to reach an agreement that will be acceptable to both parties.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has built a legal framework to combat discrimination in the past. The prohibition of discrimination proclaimed by the constitutions was elaborated in detail by the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination (ZZD), which at the time of its enactment was a progressive legal solution. By adopting the amendments to the CPA during 2016, significant shortcomings related to incompleteness and terminological inconsistency of the grounds and forms of discrimination were eliminated, and the procedural aspects of the procedure for protection against discrimination before the court were improved. // However, discrimination remains an acute problem of BiH society, which is confirmed year by year by relevant reports. Time has shown that the authorities responsible for the implementation of the ZZD do not have the capacity to provide the necessary level of protection to citizens. The competencies and procedures of protection before the Institution of the Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH require fundamental changes, while the case law, despite some progress made in recent years, still "does not follow the significant prevalence of discrimination in BiH society". In addition, the lack of political will to eliminate systemic discrimination established by final court rulings is openly expressed. This situation is discouraging given that declarative constitutional and legal guarantees are not supported by an effective enforcement mechanism.

The aim of the research is to carry out the analysis of actions taken by Ukrainian political parties in order to increase the level of women involvement in the policies development and to identify the main challenges at the interparty and cross-party levels. The reforms which are carried out in Ukraine after the Revolution of Dignity offer significant opportunities for the implementation of the best European and international practices in the field of gender equality. In particular, amendments to the electoral legislation pertaining to introduction of gender quotas offer the opportunities for increased involvement of women in political activity. On-going constitutional process makes it possible to incorporate the principles of gender equality in a new draft of the Constitution of Ukraine. The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement envisages implementation of a number of EU directives pertaining to non-discrimination and gendere quality in Ukrainian legislation and daily practice. Administrative reform allows to raise the issue of vertical gender segregation in the state executive bodies. Local government reforms and decentralization process provide anopportunity to promote gender equality mechanism at the level of regions, districts, individual settlements, and amalgamated communities.

What kind of social or psychological context can be sketched as a background of political cults in the 20th century? The need for a leader appears only when an overwhelming desire cannot be fulfilled by ordinary means. In these periods human beings not only fire up but also personify this desire. The collective craving is realized in a leader. In the society of our days the ritualization of political life deprives the individual of his autonomy. The charisma is rooted in the relationship between the individuals and is spread by the media, as well as penetrates the masses (Hitler, Stalin).

This article elucidates the impact of the COVID-19 restrictions on performing art productions and the insufficiency of financial assistance programs from the government during the first months of the pandemic 2020 in Japan. By taking an opera production and kabuki productions as examples, the reactions of the management of Biwako Hall and the commercial theater production company Shōchiku to the pandemic crisis are described; how they implemented innovative and new production measures and incorporated digital tools to compensate for financial losses, as well as to retain their old audience and attract new audience. It becomes clear how insignificant the Japanese government perceives the performing arts and how little public financial support they receive. Furthermore, the indispensable role that corporate support and commercial production companies play in theater productions in Japan is illuminated.
