The present paper is a component of an exploratory research project focused on discovering new ways to build, organize and consolidate organizational memory for an economic entity by means of the new “Semantic Web” technologies and also encloses some of the results of a previous doctoral research in the field of information technology assistance for the financial audit. The paper is an attempt to synthesize the ways organizational memory and organizational knowledge management may be optimized by means of the new “Semantic Web” philosophy. This paper offers a picture of where the typical organization is, and where it needs to be, in order to become a knowledge-aware organization and leverage the technologies of the “Semantic Web”. As a consequence, a knowledge-centric process was defined, along with a “how-to” roadmap for crafting a company’s way to the Semantic Web

Valuation of an asset, a project or an entire company may be done following different approaches, one of them being the “Discounted Cash Flows”, based on financial mathematics. This method use various expected cash flows and, therefore, different discount rates are considered appropriate regarding the different related risks. This paper emphasizes the differences between calculations of the most used cash flow streams, i.e. Free Cash Flow, Capital Cash Flow and Equity Cash Flow. Regarding the companies' valuation using the discounting-based methods, many authors argue that no matter which expected cash flows is used, they provide the same results for the present value of the company. In this paper, we present the Discounted Capital Cash Flow valuation method, arguing that choice through a greater simplicity of calculations

WHERE DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS AND MACHINE LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES MEET
Author(s): Adrian Cojocariu,Cristina Ofelia Stanciu / Language(s): English
/ Issue: 16/2010
Keywords: decision support systems; Machine Learning; artificial intelligence
The use of computers in any domain is a widely recognized fact and it has been impossible not to ask whether the computers’ capacity to learn wouldn’t increase their utility. The answer would be that as the learning capacity increases, the impact it determines is spectacular. The aim of the intelligent technologies approach in developing decision support systems has been the use of human reasoning to find solutions for complex decision problems, but also to gain extra knowledge within the organization, in order to increase the quality of the management process. The idea that intelligent systems could solve tasks that were until recently considered to be exclusively human has drawn the researchers attention, and the number of applications in the artificial intelligence field has increased and being materialized in new technologies. One of these technologies, determined by the interest in systems that are capable to learn similarly to the human beings is the Machine Learning technology. Machine Learning technologies based systems do not eliminate human intuition, but a collaborative approach between the human being and the machine is preferred, and this would be an important reason to use these technologies for the development of modern decision support systems
