Summary/Abstract: The content of an article is a discussion on the management system based on ISO 9001 requirements in companies growing by creativity. By the case study some requirements were identified which are used in companies that decided not to continue certification. On the other hand, in still certified companies there are requirements which are used rather to satisfy external auditors’ needs with no clear benefits for organization itself. Based on comparison of actions performed while facing crisis in two small companies, which have a similar business model but differ significantly in terms of top managers’ aspirations, the level of accepted risk and the actions taken to survive crisis are presented. One company decided to be aggressive and growth-oriented despite external difficulties while the second company chose the defensive model of anti-crisis decisions.
