Summary/Abstract: The first part of the article is dedicated to the discussion about similarities and differences between two terms used in the literature: the growth and the development of an organization. Despite some ambiguity of definitions presented in the literature, the conclusion can be drawn that the term growth relates to such quantitative characteristics as the amount of employees or the sales volume. The development of an enterprise reflects rather qualitative features such as new management methods and tools implementation, gaining new competencies which enable the organization to offer new product and services or the ability to operate on new markets. The second part of the text is devoted to the presentation of three models of organization growth, which have the common feature: the alternating of growth periods and crisis moments.
