Summary/Abstract: Combined class departments consist of two or more grades in which one teacher gives instruction in the same classroom at the same time. Combinations of lower, neighbouring grades (the first and the second; the third and the fourth) have got certain advantages over combinations of alternate grades (the first and the third; the second and the fourth). For the work in combined classes it is necessary to provide better conditions. The structure of the instruction in combined class departments is very difficult because the teacher must distribute his teaching work equally on all classes in the combination, which demands the preparation of separate tasks both for direct and indirect teaching. One of the working solutions in combined classes is the shift-and-a-half work, for which teachers should be additionally paid.
