Summary/Abstract: After the rising trend characterizing the key economic regions ofthe world - the USA, Japan and the European Union - in the last three and a half decades, in the near future, the small and medium-sized enterprises will represent the engine of the economic progress in developed countries, as well as in those countries experiencing transition. On the one side, the features of the small and medium-sized enterprises place this type of organization in the forefront of economic development. On the other side, the coordinates that define the new configuration of the world economy are favourable to the expansion of the small and medium-sized enterprises segment.
