Nicolae Iorga and the archives 1871 -1940

Summary/Abstract: This article presents, by means of historical documents preserved by the National Archives of Romania and its branches, the complex personality of the exceptional historian Nicolae Iorga, an encyclopaedic spirit, scientist and politician. We celebrate 150 years since his birthday on June 5, 1871, at Botoşani. The mentioned documents presents important moments of his rich biography, the dimension of his scientific activity, as result of research of the primary sources kept by the Romanian, European or American archives; the setting up of cultural and scientific institutions in Romania and abroad, his sustained and continuous fight for the fulfillment of the national ideal, the Great Union in 1918 and keeping the territorial integrity.
