Summary/Abstract: With the increasing popularity of a network approach in management one can note a certain conceptual confusion, which can be a significant barrier to the development of network theory. The aim of the article is to indicate the main definitional dilemmas and approaches in network research in management. An attempt has been made to answer the following two questions: is there a widely acceptable conceptual framework in management science that network researchers can use for research in different contexts?; what are the differences in research approaches to networks in management science? Three main criteria were adopted to identify the types of network research: a mechanism explaining the functioning of the network, the main purpose of network research and the origin of the network. The article is of a conceptual nature, using an analytical and synthetic approach aimed at organizing the concepts and typologies of network research in management.
