Summary/Abstract: The piano pedal has advanced and has reached its present high point thanks to the musical period features of the composers and their desire to reflect their own thoughts through the music, the desire of the educators to convey to their students exactly what the composers want to reflect and the enthusiasm of the performers to reach musicians with their musical interpretation. Therefore, what is important at this point is not to apply the pedal mechanically, but to apply the pedal, which reveals what the work wants to tell. Because the use of the pedal is an element that exhibits different characteristics according to the composition of the work and its turn. The music literature contains vast stylistic features, from baroque to contemporary period, which show differences. For this it is of great importance that the performers do not ignore what functions the pedals in the piano perform and what possibilities they provide when interpreting the work. In addition to this, it is necessary to reach a sufficient level of consciousness in terms of the pedal use of the performers. Otherwise, improper use of the piano pedals will adversely affect the performance of the performed performance. In the course of the study, pedal usage styles of works by major composers were investigated in order to contribute to piano students, educators and commentators in performing piano works. In the scope of the research, composers used pedal usage styles; Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludvig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt and Claude Debussy. The investigations are based on literature review. The research is important for giving information about pedal usage styles in works of great composers.
