Summary/Abstract: This article treats the issue of recovery of assets derived from the Commission of offences as a component of national security, both at European Union level, as well as internally. The paper also addresses issues relating to the need to develop some form of cooperation as complex and effective as possible in preventing and combating transnational economic and financial criminality and the risks it generates in relation to the rule of law, with national budgets and the budget of the European Union. The confiscation of assets derived from the Commission of an offence can contribute effectively to the prevention and combating of crime, whereas it attacks directly the financial objectives of the criminals and protects the economy against corruption and reintroduction of illicit income in financial circuits.
