Summary/Abstract: The Treaty of Lisbon initiates a structural reform of the European Union that impacts on the core areas as the freedom, security and justice. The new provisions set the scene for the further developments of the border management policies and legislation, of which the main concept introduced was the integrated management of the EU borders. The prominent role of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in the implementation of the integrated border management has been reflected in the new legislative framework to support the Member States facing increased threats and challenges at their borders and boost the EU solidarity in border management.
