Pierwsza dotyczy współczesnych trendów i wyzwań w logistyce i łańcuchach dostaw. Należą do nich: logistykacja w biznesie, rezyliencja ekonomiczna, ryzyko zakłóceń w łańcuchach dostaw, gospodarka współdzielenia, rozwój rynku e-commerce oraz transformacja łańcuchów dostaw. W drugiej części uwagę poświęcono szeroko pojętym transportowi, spedycji i logistyce, w szczególności transportowi publicznemu, logistyce ostatniej mili, edukacji logistycznej i lokalizacji centrów dystrybucji. Natomiast część trzecia odnosi się do obszarów finansowych w logistyce i łańcuchach dostaw – standingu i wyników finansowych spółek sektora TSL oraz aspektów międzykulturowych w zarządzaniu finansami łańcuchów dostaw.

- Summary/Abstract:The United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers (1990) is the most important document dealing with international legal principles and guarantees applicable to advocates. It had been formulated to assist Member States in their task of promoting and ensuring the proper role of lawyers, should be respected and taken into account by Governments within the framework of their national legislation and practice. Although more than 30 years have elapsed since the formulation of that document, it would be difficult to assume that the objectives of this document were fully achieved. The multiplied cases of unlawful pressure, violence and intimidation against lawyers make the international community search for more effective remedial instruments. The author analyses efforts made in that area by international organization, especially the Council of Europe. The initiative put forward by the Parliamentary Assembly to regulate these matters in the Council of Europe convention, i.e. in the form of a legally binding instrument, is of great importance. Its implementation would undoubtedly contribute to the achievement of progress in this area.

- Summary/Abstract:In 2020, many pressures have accumulated affecting the real economy and the existing economic theories describing and explaining them. These pressures include the global economic crisis, natural and climate disaster, political tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic, which are mutually reinforcing and represent a temporal turning point in the practice and theory of economics and management. The shock of 2020 also undoubtedly concerns the principles and methods of managing a logistics company. The study analyses and critically evaluates the current method of evaluating the efficiency of logistics company management and the business model corresponding to this method. The economic, social and natural consequences of the hitherto economic activity of logistics companies were indicated. In order to overcome the identified negative effects of their activities, new evaluation criteria and a new business model were proposed. It is postulated that the so-called economic resilience (RE), which consists of a set of specific criteria related to economic productivity, safety and agility. Economic productivity ensures the financial profitability of business activity, safety refers to sanitary and social guarantees, and agility to effective market adjustments. The proposed business model should be composed of three key mechanisms – sectoral, innovative and cultural. The sectoral mechanism is created by the driving forces of competition, the innovative mechanism - striving to improve the existing facts, and the cultural mechanism – the applicable ethical and moral standards.

- Summary/Abstract:In the face of an increasingly unstable economy caused by the global pandemic, a large number of economists ask the question whether the current patterns and models of business management or supply chains are still appropriate and adapted to the current economic situation. In many sectors, the global changes triggered by COVID-19 have put into question the use of existing business models. It seems that the principle of “optimum” no longer exists. Continuous improvement of supply chains or lean and agile management will no longer prove themselves in the present conditions. The tendencies to shorten supply chains keep safety stocks at the lowest possible level and optimize costs by all links led to an economic disaster in the face of the global pandemic. Business, sectors and economies cannot expect a stable, long-term economic environment. Forecasts of future developments, based on an analysis of historical patterns, are currently unlikely and inadequate in the context of rapidly changing local, international or global markets. Uncertainty and the existing market disruptions require decision-makers to rethink potential business or supply chain management alternatives in such a turbulent environment. Currently, a number of local and global trends can be identified to indicate the upcoming changes in business and society. Their long-term impact on the management of the enterprise, including social capital, will certainly be significant. Among many trends, it is possible to indicate the increasingly stronger position of emerging markets, which are involved in global production. Another significant trend is demographic change and migration creating a new face of the workforce. The development of new technologies or the ubiquitous network nature blur the existing boundaries between various sectors of the economy on a global scale.

- Summary/Abstract:Sharing resources is now a frequently discussed topic in the scientific discourse. The phenomenon of consumerism and globalization in the food market has led to the problem of wasting food. This is one of the greatest challenges we face today, especially in developed countries and their urban areas. Food sharing may be a solution to this problem. Foodsharing points, however, are only social initiatives, not systemic solutions. Based on the qualitative research – case study of the Metropolis of Upper Silesia and Zagłębie – the aim of the article is implemented, concerning the identification of available solutions for sharing food in cities and their assessment. This publication will be an introduction to further considerations in the field of organized food sharing in urban areas, which will contribute to enriching the concept of city management with solutions in the field of foodsharing.

- Summary/Abstract:Supply chain management is subject to transformations that result from both functional and structural changes. The greatest challenges for maintaining the efficiency of the supply chain processes are mergers and acquisitions, which require deep interference in the structure of the supply chain. In the case of global supply chains, it is worth mentioning that the cultural aspects influence transformation and their pace of introduction. In this chapter we presented the process of taking over the Ukrainian branch of the global production company DEF (a fictitious name) and including it in the management structures of Central Europe (CE).

- Summary/Abstract:There is no doubt that the global pandemic has affected all areas of the economy. Public transport in cities, as a derivative of the transport needs of residents, felt these changes very strongly. The purpose of this article is to present selected issues related to changes in public transport as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes which, although for today are primarily operational, may forever change the way people think about public transport. Today, experts are trying to outdo each other in catastrophic visions regarding further pandemic attacks or other viruses that may affect the economy in the coming years. Following this pessimistic trail, it can be assumed that the next months and years will be marked by the stabilization of public transport in the new circumstances and reorganization after the changes. The changes that have come, are coming and may come anytime soon. The author makes a few basic hypotheses. Firstly, that COVID-19 will force a remodelling of the organization of public transport, and these changes will be systemic in nature. Secondly, these changes will concern the first stage of transport organization. At a later stage, it can be expected that the changes will also apply to the financing of transport and planning it at the strategic level (after the stage of dynamic changes and stabilization, in the long term, it will be necessary to consider what to do next, in the context of financing transport, efficiency, etc.). It should also be considered whether, from the point of view of public transport, the coronavirus can be used as an opportunity for the development of selected areas of transport, primarily in the context of the reorganization of transport and the digitization of their administrative services. The impact of the coronavirus on public transport is a relatively new area of research, and A. Koehl (2020) and A. Ceder (2020) are writing about the challenges and the future of transport in the times of COVID-19.

- Summary/Abstract:Last mile logistics is considered the most expensive part of the supply chain. This is due to the high cost of deliveries related to the costs of organizing the transport of small parcels to individual customers, including the costs of fuel, vehicle operation and couriers. Considering the growing popularity of e-commerce among citizens, the growing problem of the last mile of deliveries should be analysed. The study focuses on the analysis of the literature on the subject, as well as on the existing or possible solutions to issues related to deliveries to the end customer. The main aim of the study is to present the proposed solutions to the last mile problem in the light of possible benefits for the development and improvement of urban logistics and the associated negative aspects. The indirect goal is to present solutions in Poland regarding the last section of the supply chain.

- Summary/Abstract:International corporations with a dispersed location have distribution centers that are independent units or a complex of production and distribution facilities. Distribution centers have become a relatively new but important element of the country’s economic landscape. The location and development of these facilities depend on specific conditions. The aim of the study is to present the essence of distribution centers as economic objects with special functions and tasks. Against this background, a comparative analysis of three selected distribution centers located in the Poznań agglomeration, but with different characteristics, is presented in order to verify the theoretical considerations carried out before. The results and conclusions of the analysis are of a utilitarian nature. They also indicate the important role played by distribution centers in strengthening the market position of companies.

- Summary/Abstract:Contemporary logistics companies are a set of functionally diversified business entities, the essence of which is focused on the provision of physical availability to various resources in the following dimensions: time, space and efficiency, assistance in forecasting and planning activities, and ensuring fast and effective information flow in business units, etc. Regardless of whether they are considered in the context of small or medium-sized shipping and transport enterprises, warehouse centers, or specialized logistics operators, the main purpose of their operation on the capital market is to strive to ensure the continuity of existence and maximize economic benefits for their owners. (stakeholders). The results of its operation, which are reflected in the financial result of a logistics company, as well as the analysed methods and tools for their implementation, constitute the main subject of comments, judgments and assessments formulated by various groups of stakeholders of this unit. Among the management staff, it may be tempting to intentionally shape the reported level of profit (loss) and to present the financial achievements of the entity “in a better light” in the eyes of interested persons. The main goal of the article is to show the degree and directions of accounting and material profit management in logistics companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Empirical research was carried out among those public companies whose shares were traded for at least ten years in the 2007–2018 horizon. An additional criterion for selecting enterprises for research was the availability of annual separate financial statements.
