Interesting Beliefs and Events in Kilis According to Folk Narratives

Kilis is a city located on Turkey's Syrian border and 10 km away from the border. Here are some events that have been believed by the people and have survived to the present day. These events are both interesting and extraordinary. Some people claim that these events are completely real. These events also appear in verbal narrative types transmitted from the old generation to the new generation. The deceased doctor who treats the patient, the shrine whose walls are leaning, people who travel in the place and change places at once, mysterious structures and magical events are part of Kilis culture. Cultural values that have been going on for centuries in Kilis combine with legends and emerge as a new system of values. These beliefs are interconnected and consistent. It is understood from people who say they are not imaginary. It is seen that the people living these things do not engage in any gain. For this reason, the credibility of the narratives seems to be quite high. A serious research on these events and places may perhaps solve the mystery of these places.

Asker Anıları Işığında İkinci Dünya Savaşı Türkiyesi

Turkey chose not to participate in the Second World War until 1945 during 6 years and preferred to remain neutral. However, despite this, the country did not feel the war atmosphere away from itself throughout the period. The steps taken within the framework of the neutrality policy had heavy effects on the people and the army. In this context, around 22,000 soldiers serving within the Turkish Army Force lost their lives due to malnutrition and care conditions. We believe that the narration of the troubles suffered during the war years from the perspective of soldiers is not included in the academic literature as it deserves. Such a study has been preferred for a modest contribution to closing this period-related gap. In this study, the World War II social-economic-political-military influence in Turkey and efforts have been made to identify all the reflections in their military memories. Thus, thanks to the memories of the soldiers, concrete examples such as the daily life of the people, livelihood problems, health problems, epidemics, drinking water problem, the issue of food, the problem of the soldiers' accommodation, and the attitudes of the people in the army against the power were accessed and the effects of the war were tried to be revealed from different angles.

Şenlik’in Salman Bey ve Turnatel Hanım Hikâyesi’nin Denis Bertrand’ın Anlatı İzlencesi Formülünde Okunması

Sensemaking is a network of meaning with a dynamic structure that gains visibility through discourse and contains the secret of the deep structures in the mind. In this respect, it carries traces of the subject using it and the interlocutors positioned in its communication network. While literary semiotics, which puts the meaning at the center, examines the ontological formation process of the dynamics that constitute the relations in the narrative, it centers on analyzing the perception of society. While doing this, it sets out the state of articulation of these relations with each other, based on the interactions in the surface structure, from the discourse of the subject that forms the narrative with deep sociological, psychological, philosophical, anthropological, political, historical, real and synchronic formations. In this context, semiotics aims to determine how and what the meaning consists of. In this study, we examined to analyze the story of Salman Bey and Turnatel Hanım which Aşık Şenlik classified inspired by a real event, according to the method of semiotic narrative analysis of Denis Bertrand, one of the current representatives of the Paris school Semiotics. This study is aims to understand the existence dynamics of the narrative identity of Âşık Şenlik in general, and the structures articulated in the memory of society in particular, starting from the surface structures that shape the discourse, by examining the narrative curriculum; analyzes the deep structural layers of society and the narrator’s mental background. One of the discourse structures of Âşık Şenlik, a story’s language, conceptual network, sentence system, type and character selection, the formation features of the plot, real and unreal elements, paradoxical interaction of sending and obstructive actors, and the function of auxiliary elements form the base of starting point for this analysis in terms of space, time, audience and discourse set.

Haiku Estetiği ve Oruç Aruoba’nın Haikuları Üzerine Yapısal Bir Deneme

Haiku is the shortest type of poetry known in the World. After leaving the borders of Japan, the first reflections appear especially in French poetry. Haiku, which has Japanese culture and beliefs in its background, is not a creed but has a life philosophy with its own. Haiku tries to put forward that philosophy of life in the simplest way. In Japanese culture and beliefs, nature takes the first place. Haiku carries the traces of a life identical to nature. Haiku poetry, which entered Turkish literature with French translations, is not a type of poetry adopted until recently, although its name is mentioned from time to time. But in 90’s, haiku has become popular in Turkish poetry. Also in that years, respectable amount of haiku readers begin to emerge in our country. In this article, the brief history of haiku as a genre is mentioned and main points in Turkish poetry were tried to be determined. Finally, the haikus written by Oruç Aruoba, who have made significant contributions to the recognition and meaning of haiku poetry, have been evaluated. Some of the haikus he wrote were selected and examined in terms of structure and essence, and it was tried to draw attention to the polysemy of haiku.

Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’nin Çarşamba Karısı Adlı Eserinde Ölçünlü Dilden Sapmalar

The strict control – or in other words, censorship – placed upon periodical alongside printing (press) activities during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II paved the way for poets and writers to turn to their inner worlds and produce works by putting art into the service of art itself. Numerous Turkish novels hailing from the Second Constitutional Period – which had given way to proclamation of the Second Constitutional Monarchy – reveal the richness of Turkish culture and literature in terms of diversification of subject variety and the linguistic richness. For example, Moralızade Vassaf Kadri’s novel Çarşamba Karısı offers us important data about language studies. In it, he frequently uses slang, alongside local idioms and dialect words – many of which are not included in the Derleme Sözlüğü. The book also contains various examples of aberrations from the standard language – including the accumulation and removal of affixes, the addition of morphemes to stereotyped language items, and polite language. This study will present both a biography of Moralızade Vassaf Kadri, as well as discuss – with examples – how he uses non-standard language in his novel Çarşamba Karısı.

Fetih Öncesi Müslüman Seyyahlara Göre İstanbul

The subject of pre-conquest Muslim travelers is a less studied subject. Historically corresponding to the Byzantine period of the Middle Ages, some travelers traveled through Istanbul themselves, others benefit from the writings of persons who came here as ambassadors, for commerce or prisoner exchange. Previous travel books were mostly translated into Turkish through western languages. In this study, the chapters of travel books relating to Istanbul of Harun Bin Yahya, Mesudi, Herevi, Idrisi, Ibn Battuta and El Verdi were translated from Arabic to Turkish. Issues as Islamic civilization in its historical process, Byzantine-Islamic political relations, Istanbul in Arab-Islamic literature were also examined. The issues such as the aims of the travelers, the boundaries of their travels, how they funded their travels and the difficulties they encountered during the travel also mentioned in the study. It is natural that travel books, which are the text of the observations of the travelers, contain subjective interpretations. Therefore, the influence of their culture on their descriptions and evaluations is inevitable. In this regard, the impressions on Istanbul before the conquest of the travelers raised in a Muslim culture is the starting point of this study.

Anne Kimliğine Kuramsal Bir Bakış (2000-2020)

It has been determined twenty seven stories and novels titled with 'mother' in Turkish literature between 2000 and 2020. These works are thematically classified and those selected by stratified sampling were analysed with psychoanalysis or logotherapy method. Some specific outcomes are achieved with psychoanalysis of the mother characters in these works. In the majority of the works, it is represented as if motherhood and individual existence can not be all together. In small number of the stories, the women are criticized for not participating in social life and being housewives despite being educated. In the works highlighting the harms of gender discrimination, it is underlined that women should be first treated as "person" instead of "spouse and mother". Given the big effect of literature on public opinion, it is obvious that this should be emphasized in more works in order to make the right woman perspective become widespread. The woman has the ability to provide the continuation of the generation by nature. However, motherhood is not a genetic specification of woman but a social structure. The societies are adopted with the rule of the child needing a mother for living. As the economical production values the child, the motherhood is valued in the society and the ideal motherhood is shaped in these conditions. Our work will be eye-opening in terms of emphasizing the importance of this ideal by mass communication and literature too.

TEZÂKÎR ÇERÇEVESİNDE AHMED CEVDET PAŞA’NIN EĞİTİM GÖRÜŞLERİNİN ANALİZİ

During the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire saw significant transformation. Reconstruction efforts had started during the reign of Sultan Selim III, only to pick up pick up momentum during the century in question. Priority was placed on education modernize the empire, compensate for lost provinces, and save it from the brink of collapses. New schools were set up that followed Western models, to train the qualified people to meet the demands of the state. One major figure during that movement (beginning in around 1845) was Ahmet Cevdet Pasha, historian, judge, teacher, school principal, Ottoman Minister of Education, textbook author, and academy member. As such, he helped shape education reforms both directly or indirectly. One of his books, Tezakir, reflects on his career in education. It offers us original information not found in other sources. From that, we have learned that he supported the opening of modern European-esque schools even though was reared in madrassahs and held rank among many religious scholars. He maintained one condition however: that such schools uphold certain (Ottoman) principles and cultural elements. Modern Turkey’s education system still faces this issue today.

Orijentalna zbirka Zavičajnog muzeja u Visokom - Katalog dokumenata na arapskom jeziku

The Oriental collection of documents of the Regional Museum in Visoko holds the original written material created at the end of the period of Ottoman and early Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as during the Austro-Hungarian period and the time between the two world wars. The documents of the collection were written in Oriental languages, in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, and to a lesser extent in Bosnian. A small part of the collection, which consists of manuscripts and printed material in Arabic, has been catalogued in the paper. All catalogued documents, with the exception of one work, are of a religious nature, in the field of basic sources of the Islamic religious law - the Qur'an and Hadith, or Hadith science and Islamic literature. By cataloguing seventeen documents, a part of the fund of the Oriental Collection, which the museum inherits in its holdings, is presented to the professional, scientific and general public for the first time.

Halk Şairi Ahmet Çıtak’ın Ashab-ı Kehf Mesnevisi’nin Değerler Eğitimi Yönünden İncelenmesi

It is known that nations have unique values and that they continue their existence with these values and the importance of values for the individual and society. Literature also plays an important role in values education and transferring values to future generations, as well as individuals. Values can be given directly or implicitly in literary texts. In this study, the masnavi named Ashab-ı Kehf, which consists of 224 couplets written by the poet of folk Ahmet Çıtak, was examined in terms of values education. The qualitative research method was used in the analysis, and the data were obtained by document analysis. The masnavi in the book prepared by Serdar Yakar (Yakar, 2014) is based on. According to the findings obtained in the study, the values of “justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism” (10 root values) determined by the Ministry of National Education were included in the masnavi called Ashab-ı Kehf, and the masnavi used by the local people in the masnavi. The results were obtained as the words were included. Based on the findings obtained, some suggestions, especially the examination of "different narratives on the Ashab-ı Kehf in Turkey and in the world" in terms of values education, are given.

Klasik Türk Edebiyatında “Tiryâk-ı Fârûk”

Classical Turkish literature is a literature that emerged under the influence of Islamic civilization. Naturally, especially the Qur'an, hadiths, stories of the prophets and "Hulefa-ı Raşidin", that is, St. Abu Bakr, St. Omar, Mr. Osman and St. Ali's lives and legends have been important sources of this literature. St. Ömer, one of Çehâr-Yârı Güzîn, is known by the nickname "Fârûk". The name Fârûk, which is derived from the root of difference, which means to separate, to divide; means fair, who separates the right from the wrong. In this respect, generally St. Omar's justice is reminded. "Tiryak" is a kind of paste used against poison and some diseases, it is an antidote and the most effective one is "tiryâk-ı fârûk". Since it destroys the effects of animal poisons and poisonous drinks, that is, it separates the body from the poison, this tiryâk is called fârûk. The reason for establishing a relationship between Tiryâk-ı fârûk and St. Omer is a legend of St. Omer as well as his nickname "Fârûk". According to the rumor, one day the Greek ambassador gave Omar poison to kill his enemies. Omer, on the other hand, states that his own worst enemy is his soul, and drinks the poison, but he is not poisoned. By referring to this legend, it is reminded that St. Omer does not need an antidote and that he distinguishes the poison from his body. Therefore, a relationship is established between tiryâk-ı farûk and St. Omer. In classical poetry, St. Omer is generally referred to as justice, but in this study, apart from the general tendency of St. Omer's justice, a different use of him as "Tiryâk-ı Fârûk" in the context of poison-antidote will be examined.

İkinci Yeni Şiiri Bağlamında Ece Ayhan’ın Poetikası

İkinci Yeni poetry is a poetry movement that emerged after 1950. The position of the image, the unusual use of language, the plural meaning assumed by the discourse, the culture, philosophy, history, geography and expression of the modern individual embedded in the spine of the poem are the main issues of the İkinci Yeni poem. With these features, the İkinci Yeni poem has a remarkable place in the adventure of Turkish poetry. Because by interpreting the art of poetry differently in terms of content and form, it creates a breaking point in the Turkish poetry tradition by opening the door to a new understanding of poetry. In this context, while the İkinci Yeni has acquired a position knitted with sensitivity, prioritizing the human and the age, sometimes related to tradition and expanding the fields of meaning; He also assumes a remarkable responsibility in responding to criticisms of his understanding of poetry. In these long-lasting defenses; The importance given to the art of poetry, the trust in this understanding of poetry, the strong knit of poetry in terms of meaning, and most importantly, the poetic codes of the İkinci Yeni appear. Ece Ayhan is one of the representatives of the İkinci Yeni poetry, which has gained a place in the poetry medium with these determinations. The meaning universe that Ayhan constructed in terms of theme, language and image overlaps with the İkinci Yeni. Within this universe of poetry, there is a world of meaning woven with history, language, culture, philosophy, music and geography. Leaning his poetry on these concepts, Ayhan progresses in parallel with the İkinci Yeni understanding in poetic sense. Even though it sometimes challenges the discourse and meaning possibilities of this understanding of poetry, there is still a poem that is included in the meaning world of the İkinci Yeni. In this study, Ece Ayhan‟s poetics will be examined in the context of the İkinci Yeni poem.

DJELO MAṬLAʻUʼL-FECR SALAHUDDINA UŠŠAKIJA (SALAHIJA) KAO PRIMJER PRVE REGAIBIJE U OSMANSKOJ KNJIŽEVNOSTI

This paper presents the work of Maṭlaʻuʼl-fecr by a famous Ottoman poet of the 18th century, Sheikh Abdullah Salahuddin Ushshaqi - Salahi. The work is of enormous importance for the entire Ottoman literature since it is the first poetic work that thematizes the conception of the Prophet of Islam. Thus, this is the first Regaʼibiyya written and composed for the purpose of performing at religious ceremonies on the occasion of Laylatur-regaib, the blessed night of the first Thursday in the month of Rajab. According to Islamic tradition, that night the Prophet’s mother Amina conceived Muhammad. Although this type of poetry is not as frequent in Ottoman literature as the Mawlid and Miʻrajiyya, its importance should not be neglected. It is particularly significant that the first Regaʼibiyya in the history of Ottoman literature was written by Salahuddin Ushshaqi, a poet of Bosnian descent. Therefore, in the continuance of the paper, general information about the author, his life and work is offered, and after the basic characteristics of Salahi’s Regaʼibiyya, an integral translation of the Mathnawi Maṭlaʻuʼl-fecr is presented. The translation itself is accompanied by additional explanations and interpretations of certain terms or verses.

Yakup Kadri’nin Millî Savaş Hikâyeleri’nde Anlatıya Dönüştürülen Bellek

Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu is a significiant author who produced works in different genres such as novels, stories, and theatre. In particular, with the effect of the social issues he witnessed like the Armistice and the War of Independence, the author focuses on the narrating the social transformations and transforms the landscapes he witnessed into fiction via using his own imagination. Dwelling upon the ways memory is reflected in the “National War Stories”, this study examines the narration of the losses of the characters’ consciousness stemming from the persecution of enemy invasion. The purpose of the study is to examine how fractures in identity and memory are reflected in the book as its characters face the pain of the past. The act of remembering and forgetting and as well as the functions of the factors that trigger these practices in “National War Stories”, are examined with a critical methodology of the work. Moreover, the author’s ideology, as it is reflected in the stories, is questioned. The tragic stories found in “National War Stories” are analyzed in the light of memory theories, which are the expressions of subjective experiences that shed light on the remembering and forgetting of both individuals and society. While painful and traumatic experiences are turned into narratives, the tragic dimensions of historical events are central. How can being stuck in the past, pursuing and longing for the past, the inability to accept the absence of losses, and the inability to communicate with oneself and the environment be narrated? How aer the vividness, fragility, and delusiveness of memory reflected in these stories? While investigating answers to these questiones, the author’s approach to the past, present and future chain is also examined.

“Öğrenilmiş Çaresizlik” BağlamındaBağlamında Aslı Tohumcu’nun Öykülerinde Babalar ve Kızları

The subject of women, which is one of the most discussed and examined issues by developing different perspectives in the last century, has expanded its content on topics such as women’s identity, oppression and violence in patriarchal society. In Turkish literature, especially after 1980, it found its expression as an individual and social problem in the pen of writers such as Adalet Ağaoğlu, Tomris Uyar, Leyla Erbil, Sevgi Soysal, Latife Tekin, Mine Söğüt. In such works, individuals who are accustomed to negative attitudes and behaviors that cannot be changed by “learned helplessness” are encountered. It is emphasized that the family, especially the father figure, is effective on the basis of the learned helplessness that leads women and girls to great despair. Today, the projections of learned helplessness behavior, which has extremely traumatic consequences especially on girls and women, in the literature allow us to examine the subject from different perspectives. In this context, this study investigates the causes of learned helplessness based on the stories of Aslı Tohumcu and focuses on the father-daughter relationship, which has an important place among these reasons. In this direction, I aim to contribute to the studies arising from the intersection of literature and psychology; I examined the father-daughter relationship in Tohumcu’s stories around the basic concepts of psychology and learned helplessness theory in psychosocial field.

Mülkiyet Tutkusunun Türkiye Toplumsal Hafızasına Yansımaları: Orhan Kemal Romanları Odağında Bir İnceleme

The matter of ownership is among the most controversial subjects of critical economy-politics, and it basically notes the materialized insecurity of the acquisition of wealth through inefficient processes. The concept has been a subject of many critical studies, not only in terms of the political economy, but also in sociological, artistic, and literary fields. Essentially, the methods of addressing and framing the levels of ownership ideology, which names the imperious power of capital against productive labor in literary-sociological discourse, can give important clues about the dominant relations in a particular historical period, the conception of ownership, and the place that this conception has in the collective memory. In this study, the issue of the types of cultural value debates the passion for ownership and ownership ideology, as reflected in Orhan Kemal’s novels and novel characters, and therefore, their effects on the collective memory of Turkey, as well as the various perspectives, relationship styles, and behavioral patterns this influence creates. For this purpose, six of Orhan Kemal’s novels dated between the beginnings of the 1950s to the end of the 1970s, were examined using content analysis and focusing on the passion for ownership if any and the criticism of ownership ideology. It is assumed that this study will be an important contribution to the research field of Turkish literature sociology, in the sense that it showcases the relationship between passion for ownership and collective memory to the discussion in Turkey. It was concluded that the ownership forms that change over time also change the perception and thought of ownership in individuals, and this situation draws attention to different personality types and related behavioral patterns in the collective memory of Turkey

Akçakoca Destinasyonu’nun Tarihî İnsan Ekolojisi: Karadenizin Kıyıcığında Romanı

Rıfat Ilgaz is a significant novelist, poet and storyteller. Ilgaz, who is also from Western Balck Sea Region, novelized human and human relations which he observed in cities he was raised and lived, and created panoramas of regions which remained away from attention. Karadenizin Kıyıcığında is a novel about the struggles of how the people of Akçakoca survive, whom are trapped in the triangle of geography, climate, and monarchy. Their struggle not only shapes their lives, lifestyles and priorities but also affects their approach to each other and nature. With its deep characters and plot, the novel presents the relationship networks and lifestyles of country folk in Akçakoca, Anatolia and worldwide wrapped around a love story. In the conclusion part, the subject is evaluated within the framework of the ecological ethics ideas and Darwin’s definitions of human, in terms of the similarities which are seen in the approach to nature and women, and the clear characteristics seen in the interaction with nature. Rıfat Ilgaz, consciously or not, presents proof for the claim that hierarchical structures, which have been the subject of the ecological ethics approaches for many years, shape the approach to nature and to those who are considered as “the other” with his real human profiles and human ecology which are presented in his novel and fictionalized with his observations over the years.

Nazlı Eray’ın Kayıp Gölgeler Kenti ile Philip Kerr’in Ölümcül Prag Eserlerindeki Prag Görünümleri

Based on all fictional texts, space takes place in different dimensions. When it comes to novels containing fantastical elements, they tend to put the perception of time and real life places into the background or completely change them. In fantastic narrative universe where dreams and reality are intertwined, the reader embarks on an unlimited journey between (real-unreal) spaces and (realunrealistic) times. Space also influences time by taking on different identities in every stage of the text. In novels with no fantastic elements, the author mostly prefers a direct narrative instead of giving the reader a surreal sense of time and place. Although these two approaches are different, space is indispensable for associating the novel’s characters with the place where the plot takes place. When space, which is a fundamental element in revealing meaning as a series of relations, is considered together with time, a variable and magical perception emerges in fantasy novels; however, in novels where reality is at the forefront, and there is an emphasis on event transfer, one does not go beyond a straight perception of time and space. In this context, the appearance of Prague in Nazlı Eray’s The City of Lost Shadows, who fictionalizes her works with fantastic elements in our literature, and the city’s identity in Philip Kerr’s detective novel Prague Fatale have been comparatively examined in terms of space. The themes of death and captivity arising from the gloomy history of the city, seen in both works, have been discussed in the context of temporal and spatial relations. Although the novels considered differ in perception and handling of the space, it has been observed that they meet in the themes of death and captivity in the axis of Prague.

The tradition of writing detached poems in certain terms, which is a manifestation of the poets' attempt to use the language material in their hands in the most efficient way, in divan poetry, in which the word staff, the mazmun and the frame of their dreams are determined, is one of the different and interesting subjects in terms of showing the poet's art. Diwan poets have independent poems, which they write by using the terms belonging to a certain profession and science, such as nautical, sailing, shoemaking, tailoring, archery, calligraphy, music, chess, dress, books, throughout a poem. One of the different and interesting examples in this field, which was detected by us for the first time; They constitute stand-alone poems built entirely with poetic terms. In our study, we determined as a result of hundreds of diwan scans; We first examined the ghazals of Zâtî, Ravzi, Sabâyî, Gelibolulu Âlî, Resîm, Neccâr-zâde Rıza, Beliğ Emin, Sünbül-zâde Vehbî, Şehdî, Levhî, Zîver, Ferrî, Said Giray and Şâkir Galib in the context of nazire tradition. Afterwards, we have made some evaluations about the ghazals of the mentioned poets, written with this understanding, by classifying the terms that include poetry and poetic issues in these poems.
