The Jubilee International Scientific Conference on the "Economic Science, Education and the Real Economy: Development and Interactions in the Digital Age", held on 11 – 12 May 2020, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary оf the University of Economics-Varna. Against the background of the cultural and economic rise from the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century, on May 14, 1920 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Varna decides to open a Higher School of Commerce in the city. This marks the beginning of higher economics education in the country. For the period of its existence the university has trained over 155,000 specialists with successful self-realization in the country and abroad. Today, more than 8,000 Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates from 52 countries study in 27 Bachelor's, 29 Master's and 16 Doctor‟s programs. One hundred years for a Bulgarian university is a remarkable anniversary. Some European universities have a much longer history, but when we give assessments, we must always consider the historical context. From this point of view and within the post-liberation period, 100 years of existence, for a Bulgarian university, is a remarkable achievement. The University of Economics – Varna is one of the oldest universities in Bulgaria and the university is rightly proud of its history. The Jubilee International Scientific Conference is focused on digitalization and all those profound transformations it causes in the economy and society. The theme of the conference has been chosen in the period preceding the outbreak of the global coronary virus pandemic. This is important to note because the current economic situation has changed dramatically. As a result of the state of emergency and the imposed social isolation, the economies all over the world have entered a recession. The business, our social and cultural lives have come to a standstill. The economic crisis that has begun is unprecedented both in its cause and most likely in its scale and scope, and it is currently confronting us with specific economic problems. But we believe in science and medicine, in the human mind and intelligence, and we have no doubt that the epidemic will be brought under control and sooner or later the world will return to normal. Then the fundamental determinants of economic activity shall start to operate, one of which is the ongoing process of digitalization. The present economic situation has confronted us with specific economic problems, but it has also shown in a clear and unequivocal way how important new technologies are in modern life, in particular in the conditions of emergency and social distance. It is in these conditions that all our communication, the opportunity for public institutions to continue with their work, online university and school education, etc. rest on digital technologies today. This conference has also been made possible by modern technology. The crisis, from a certain point of view, has given a new impetus to the digitalization of society. In the context of current events and the explanations given above, the topic of the conference is focused on the long term development of the economy and society as a whole. The scientific event aroused considerable interest. The conference was attended by 340 scientists, researchers, lecturers, PhD students and students from 23 Bulgarian and 15 foreign universities and research organizations from Germany, Lebanon, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia and Ukraine, as well as representatives of business and various institutions. Plenary reports of the conference have been presented by: Prof. Evgeni Stanimirov PhD - Rector of the University of Economics – Varna, "Quo vadis, education?", Prof. Daniela Bobeva PhD, Institute for Economic Research at BAS, "Costs and Benfits of Euro Adoption in Bulgaria: lessons Learned from the Long Path of Bulgaria to the Euro' Mr. Plamen Rusev PhD, one of the successful alumni of the University of Economics-Varna, Executive Chairman of the Webit Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of Endeavor Bulgaria, addressed the plenary session with a speech on "Bulgaria – a platform for creating global initiatives." The proceedings covers 263 reports, in 4 volumes. The range of prob lems in the reports is wide, in line with the idea of the scientific forum: to analyze the manifestation of digitalization not only in business and econo my, but its social, institutional and legal aspects, as well. A very important part of the conference is the reports that examine the impact of digitalization on education and science.

The book Video Games as a Medium of Communication. Modes and Dimensions of Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Communication among Gamers presents the current findings from research and scientific analysis concerning video games as a medium of communication. Video games allow gamers to communicate with themselves, as well as with other players and users of cyberspace. The issues addressed in the book show the complexity of the subject matter, point to interdependencies and also constitute a valuable source of knowledge in the cognitive, theoretical and practical spheres. What makes this publication extremely valuable is the way theoretical reconstructions are presented, as well as how the author indicates pedagogical implications for educational practice in terms of using video games and their specific language in education, also presenting them in various ways. Although communication between gamers is based on the same principles as communication between other users of cyberspace, it sometimes requires specific communicative competences, both verbal and non-verbal, due to the diversity and specificity of video games. The lack of such competences may interfere in satisfying needs important for the gamer: being competent, efficient, creative, transgressive, able to carry out the activities determined by the game independently but also together with other members of the group (guild, clan, discussion forum bringing players together). Significant elements are not only the reception and transmission of messages but also the particular aspect of intrapersonal communication of importance to each gamer, which, thanks to the internalization of messages, enables individuals to develop self-reflection and inner self-control.

The monograph presents a study of the ESP needs of students of economics and socio-political studies aimed at course optimisation. The research includes two stages with the pilot one having finished in June 2021 and involving the students at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Bulgaria as well as the subject, and ESP lecturers at UNWE. The second stage included students from universities with the profile of UNWE in Bulgaria and worldwide (April-October 2021). Altogether, 1106 students from seven Bulgarian and twelve foreign HEIs took part in the survey along with thirty-two faculty members who teach English, subject or both. The impressive number of respondents allowed for an in-depth and insightful research. The results from the study were analysed in detail, which led to the development of comprehensive recommendations that could be used in order to optimise course parameters and hence design more effective and engaging ESP courses for students of economics and socio-political studies. Even though the examination of the issue was related to the educational process at a particular university, there are implications for all academic institutions worldwide whose mission is to offer high-quality programmes and provide a learning-enhanced environment.

The spatial development and the territorial disparities that have emerged set the need to recruit staff and professionals to receive their training in regional development for positive change in the different territorial communities. The focus is on the training of specialists in the professional field of administration and management, where training in regional development can be most effectively delivered. This approach requires the foregrounding of the functional philosophy of regional development and the conscious model of preparation that is the contribution of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in terms of the preparation of specialists in higher education. In this direction, the regional being has its scope and purpose, because it combines the public and private sectors in organizational and managerial terms and directly corresponds to the processes taking place in our surroundings. In practical terms, we live in a world dominated by a spatially localized economy. A snapshot of our daily lives shows that all economic life has a territorial dimension, despite a globalizing economy. This makes it necessary, through the specialized knowledge and skills of the regional development curriculum, to prepare professionals who can make adequate and creative managerial, organizational, and technical decisions for socio-economic development and, above all, for the imposition of new products and spatial solutions for the geo-economic development of individual territorial communities. The regional and local profile of the economy is particularly necessary for the positioning of products, trademarks, and names that are in tune with the change in the surrounding environment and bear the specificity of the region. However, for this process to have a sustainable framework, the organization and management must be at the right high level. It is through the knowledge and skills of scientific thought that action can be taken and solutions imposed to improve administrative capacity and develop institutional completeness. The main objective of the training in the specialty "Regional Development" is to prepare competent and motivated experts, researchers, and scientific staff in the field of regional economy and administration, with a high level of mastery of theoretical and practical knowledge, which will allow them to be properly integrated into the socio-economic life of the country. The main idea of the study is to analyze the curricula and the possibilities for improving the education and training of specialists in the field of regional development. The book is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the basic concepts and the second part is practically oriented towards the study of students' attitudes and attitudes towards their studies in the field of Regional Development. Part of the research tracks the qualitative change of students in terms of the knowledge and skills acquired.
