Neo-liberalism as a political-economic doctrine and an ideology promotes globalization as world economic integration based on unfettered free trade. In a more extensive discourse, neo-liberalism is often equated with globalization. However, some of the eminent globalization theoreticians, for instance J. A. Scholte, U. Beck or M. Steger, point out that a neo-liberal standpoint on globalization is only one of the possible viewpoints, but also the most dominant and the most widespread when understanding globalization. Therefore, as Scholte points out, neo-liberal ideas of globalization gained widespread acceptance as commonsense .

In the turbulent summer of 1940, the Czechoslovak airmen were among the greatest assets of the foreign resistance movement. A shocking defeat of France and the loneliness of Great Britain affirmed their privileged position. What was highlighted in the difficult negotiations with the British side was the strength of the air force, as well as the success of fighter pilots in the Battle of France. Recognition of the Czechoslovak provisional government could be described as a diplomatic miracle, thanks to a significant contribution by the aviation staff.

Radio stations broadcasting from the West to communist bloc countries became an important means of exerting ideological influence on their citizens. Radio waves radiated freely and without restriction through the ether across the Iron Curtain dividing Eastern and Western Europe. The communist rulers of Soviet Bloc states tried, therefore, to create a kind of aerial parallel to the Iron Curtain to run along the Western borders of their countries. Its designers intended the network of mutually supplementary jamming centers to become, thanks to international cooperation, an impenetrable barrier preventing as much as possible the citizens of communist states from receiving the signals of Western radio stations.

In the second half of 1959, the policy of the Soviet Union and its satellites towards Cuba changed. An irreplaceable role in this process was played by the Soviet intelligence service, the 1st Chief Directorate of the KGB attached to the Council of Ministers of the USSR, headed by General Alexander Mikhailovich Sakharovsky , which also engaged the security services of Soviet satellites into the complicated foreign operation to obtain an important beachhead in the western hemisphere. However, the scope of Czechoslovak assistance in the area of security and the influence of the Czechoslovak State Security in Cuba have remained basically up to now on the edge of professional interest.

On the basis of an international treaty between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, at the end of October and the beginning of November 1977, 625 Czechoslovak military experts arrived in Tripoli. Led by Brigadier General Juraj Lalo, they were meant to assist the Libyan armed forces improve their training and to improve the battle readiness of the air force, armoured forces, and artillery.1 The Czechoslovak “normalisation” regime had no excessive illusions about the nature of its north African partner. The only thing that perhaps united them both was their acute anti-Americanism or possibly their opposition to Israel. Besides ensuring the required inflow of foreign currencies with security forces – in a manner similar to their Soviet and East German counterparts – until the year 1989, they strived to take advantage of the relatively opportune political situation in their sphere of interest for the benefit of their power politics.

Očito je da je brak Katarine, kćerke vojvode Stjepana Vukčića Kosače s bosanskim kraljem Stjepanom Tomašom značio i da je dio Katarinine velmoške dvorske svite došao na bosanski kraljevski dvor.

The year 2010 was a long-anticipated milestone in the field of official development assistance. The EU donor countries committed themselves to spending the amount worth 0.33 per cent (for EU15) or 0.17 per cent of GDP (for new member states) respectively on development cooperation by 2010. Not only the financial crisis but also the long-criticized unwillingness to increase the development assistance budget in the times of enormous economic growth has led Slovakia into an embarrassing position, as roughly a half of the minimum agreed GDP percentage is spent on development assistance. Unfortunately, it is still true that instead of discussing meaningful increase and the capacity building matters, Slovakia is forced to reflect on the possible ways of maintaining at least the attained level from previous years. The fact that the agreed level has not been attained by the majority of EU countries could not pose any consolation.

Milan Rastislav Štefánik has become a “classic” for many. It seems that there has been so much written and said about him that it is hard to add anything new. Nevertheless, many authors and academics have fallen to the bias of their predecessors and inadequately attributed the successes of the founding of Czecho–Slovakia to the other two leading figures at the expense of Štefánik. Too often they have used phrases such as “He opened the doors to the world leading politicians at the time for Masaryk and Beneš,” or even worse “What Masaryk thought of, Beneš said and Štefánik did” – creating an image depicting Štefánik as a good and obedient soldier. Where was then Štefánik’s brilliant ability to conceive ideas, improvise, lead and persuade skeptics lost?
