Natural sciences and technologies place artificial intelligence, robotics and cyborgs at the centre of human attention. However, virtual and augmented reality and the unthinkable possibilities of the future media and communication between individuals and social groups might be deeper and broader than we think, and evolve in forms we have not hoped for. If philosophy wants to focus on the essence of scientific-technical age, it must reflect on the very foundations of computer-operational thinking, because artificial intelligence has already started to develop its own consciousness and may, in the future, devise a strategy of development beyond man and without man.

New technology is referred as any set of productive techniques which offers a significant improvement. What is seen as new’ is obviously subject to continual redefinition, as successive changes in technology are undertaken. The social and political impact of new technologies is complex being subject to variations in managerial strategies, worker resistance, and a host of other cultural and political circumstances. User adoption of new technologies and the models explaining their behaviors is an ongoing research problem.Identifying the factors that affect the adoption of new technologies is understood by developing technology adoption models and theories with different theoretical insights, variables and measurements. To recognize the needs and acceptance of individuals is to realize the factors that drive user acceptance or rejection of technologies. Researchers can conceptualize underlying technology models and theories that may affect the previous, current and future application of technology adoption. As a case study, 50 users of new technology in Croatia were questioned regarding pros and cons and was determined majority will benefit from the use.

We will try to link Merleau-Ponty’s interpretation of the body-subject with the idea of mediation. The body thus becomes the mediating part of the human body towards the human body, human body and the world, and also human body and the Being. Within the phenomenological field of network interaction there is a corporate intersubjective game, usually speaking, between the man and the nature, in which man is constituted by nature as nature is constituted by man, and all this through technique as something that is yet to be.

This paper investigates modality as one of the important issues in critical stylistics. The focus of the investigation is on modals, considering that their use can have hidden ideological meanings. The analysis and interpretation of examples from political, media, and literary discourse show how the choice of a modal verb can become a means of persuasion, but also of manipulation, or a means that enables speakers to represent their role as more or less significant than it is. The speaker’s individual style can also influence the use of modals. In literary discourse, namely in poetry, the choice of a modal can become a stylistically relevant device.

The paper argues that social capital presents one of the most attractive concepts exploited in public discourse in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, treated by sociology as a social resource that aids or obstructs individuals’ access to other resources - economic, natural, social and political ones. Bearing in mind that communication and connection between people is increasingly moving from physical to virtual space, thanks to the advancement and development of technology, in this paper we examine the connection between social capital and the representation in the cyberspace, that is, the connection between social capital and online identity. The question is whether virtual connection with others has the same power of connection that is realised in face-to-face communication and that occurs in real world, and to what extent Internet interaction affects social capital. The paper also examines whether online interaction is a kind of upgraded face-to-face interaction, rather than its replacement, as well as whether persons active in offline world are equally active in online world of communication.

Games that utilize satire have largely been unexplored despite their potential to be used as learning supplements or tools to foster conversations around difficult large-scale topics. To what game genre do these games belong, and what are the uses and benefits for learning from such games? In this exploration study, we examine six popular and culturally relevant digital games (5 directly, 1 indirectly) utilizing satire as part of their narrative and gameplay. The range of games covers topics such as global over population, the use of artificial intelligence for surveillance, and the process of mass capitalist production and the manner of its consumption. Satirical digital games serve both the purposes of serious games and entertainment games, pointing to the problematic connotations of the term serious games. It is suggested that the name satirical games is used to describe digital games created for entertainment with underlying political messages and to make a statement and/or commentary on society. Satirical games have potential as powerful learning tools to help facilitate discussion around difficult topics about society’s functions and practices. Future studies should examine additional digital game titles that rely on satire in their narrative and gameplay and investigate the relationship between satire and its role in the learning goals of the games.

This study investigates the extent to which Turkish ELT student teachers comprehend conversational implicatures concerning Grice’s theory of co-operative principle (1989). The act of communication speech acts can be either direct or indirect. In the case of indirect speech acts, an addressee has to comprehend the addresser’s meaning, which means comprehending the implicature. Implicature is the meaning of the speaker’s utterance that is not part of what the speaker says. The inference of the meaning in an utterance by participants mostly depends on the contextual clues in a particular situation. The listener has to differentiate between the literal (semantic) meaning and non-literal (pragmatic) meaning. Developing ELT students’ pragmatic competence is significant for successful communication in the target language. Although there is much research into EFL pragmatic competence focusing on conversational implicatures, in the Northern Cypriot ELT context there is still a need to examine the issue. This study was designed to investigate the extent to which prospective teachers of English comprehend conversational implications.
