The study “StratCom laughs. In search of an analytical framework“ is a multidisciplinary effort to design an analytical framework for analysing humour in scenarios where researchers and practitioners find themselves working through large data collections where humour has been used as a potent tool in the construction of messages designed for strategic communication. The research was conducted in four stages.

Since Russia’s occupation of Crimea and its engagement in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, the issue of winning people’s ‘hearts and minds’ has become one of the dominating themes in the social sciences and the general public sphere. Geopolitical and political confrontation between states and societies based on different values and principles is also reflected in the strategies and policies that governments of such countries are applying in order to win the hearts and minds of both their own citizens and the citizens of other countries. Consequently, there is no shortage of studies debating and challenging the concepts of information warfare, hybrid warfare, propaganda or soft power.

Forced migration and psychosocial health: meaning-making through autobiographical narratives in the UK

This paper explores how refugees in the UK perceive the relation between their experience of migration and their psychosocial health. Autobiographical narrative interviews were carried out with fifteen refugees residing in the UK. The findings reveal a contrast between the negative stereotypes concerning refugees’ psychosocial health and the participants’ own perceptions. Two of the three emerging narratives suggest a more balanced view of refugees’ psychosocial health, since in contrast to the stereotypes most participants did not perceive this through the lens of ‘vulnerability’. The third narrative revealed that a hostile social context can negatively shape refugees’ perceptions of their psychosocial health. This runs counter to the stereotype of refugees as being exclusively responsible for their ‘passiveness’ and therefore for the problems they face.

Migration, life narratives, memory and subjectivity: Reflections on an archival project on Irish migration

This article considers three theoretical approaches (late-modern, postmodern and feminist) to the apparent obsession with self-narration and memory in the early twenty-first century as they relate to an archival project on Irish migration. This archival project focused on the life narratives of those who witnessed mass out-migration from 1950s Ireland. The article reflects on the extent to which this project and the motivations of both the researchers and contributors reflect these theoretical accounts of the biographical turn.

Collecting Personal Memories With the Use of Oral History Method

The methodology which Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past uses in collecting personal memories is partially grounded in the basic methodological principles of the oral history method. It has been used since 1948, when the oral history method was accepted in the scientific community as a technique of documenting history and it enables Documenta, as a human rights organization working on the process of dealing with the past, to respond to unique request which are set before the organization. Except for trying to respect scientific principles of documenting with the use of oral history method, the methodology we use also includes a step forward towards a social engagement. As part of the wider process of dealing with the past, Documenta, through its activities related to collecting and recording personal memories, tries to provide an opportunity to people, who have neither been active in creating historical events nor have carried any political power during certain periods, to affirm themselves as social actors. On the other hand, by insisting on the principle of multiperspectivity, we try to present to the public plurality of different narratives. Our aim is to contribute to a deeper and all-encompassing understanding of certain historical processes which have significantly affected the lives of people from these areas. The methodology of our work on the project “Personal memories of wars and other forms of political violence from 1941 until today” consists of several phases which follow one after another and are in part complementary.

Pre-conference collection Slavic literary world: contexts and confrontations I. consists of 25 studies of PhD students from 15 institutes of Slavonic 5 European countries, written in five languages. Young authors have focused their attention rather to less common issues of literary research within the wide thematic range of conference bringing the new impulse to the contemporary state and tendencies of research work and at least partly illustrating the potential and directing of the younger generation of literary researches. However in the publication there are also present the papers of authors contributing by their genuine research perspective to the continuous academic discourse about more traditional literary issues. Many works are not methodologically and thematically strictly limited just to the field of literature, but they overlap to related fields as the fine arts, aesthetics or translate studies are.

Poufność a użyteczność informacji statystycznych. Dylematy ochrony udostępnianych danych

Monografię otwiera omówienie ogólnych koncepcji kontroli ujawniania danych (ang. Statistical Disclosure Control, SDC) oraz definicji z tym związanych, a także regulacji prawnych dotyczących ochrony danych wrażliwych stosowanych w różnych krajach, również w Polsce. Zaprezentowano tutaj także najważniejsze typy udostępnianych danych wynikowych oraz rolę metadanych, paradanych, a także danych dodatkowych w SDC. Drugim ważnym poruszanym tematem jest istota i ważność ryzyka ujawnienia informacji wrażliwych oraz ocena jego poziomu. Ukazano tutaj także odmienności występujące w tym zakresie między mikrodanymi a danymi zagregowanymi w postaci tablic częstości i wielkości czy wyników analiz. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono z kolei szczegółowej charakterystyce metod i technik kontroli ujawniania danych wynikowych w przedstawionych powyżej trzech typach. Wskazano ponadto na zagrożenia dla poufności danych, mogące wystąpić w publikowaniu statystyk opisowych, ilustracji i wyników analiz w opracowaniach statystycznych oraz sposoby przeciwdziałania możliwościom odtworzenia danych wrażliwych. W toku dalszych rozważań autorzy scharakteryzowali istotę problemu straty informacji oraz najistotniejsze rodzaje miar oceny owej straty, z pewnymi oryginalnymi propozycjami, a także wpływ straty informacji na jakość estymacji dokonywanej w oparciu o dane poddane SDC. Czytelnik znajdzie w monografii szczegółowe omówienie – wraz ze stosowną egzemplifikacją – narzędzi informatycznych stosowanych w SDC, przede wszystkim programów T–Argus i µ–Argus oraz pakietów środowiska R: sdcTable i sdcMicro. Następnie uwaga została skoncentrowana na organizacji kontroli dostępu do danych i zasadach jej realizacji. W szczególności scharakteryzowano typy udostępnianych mikrodanych, sposobu organizacji funkcjonowania punktów dostępu oraz stosownych zabezpieczeń, przebieg efektywnej kontroli dostępu i zakres odpowiednich uprawnień. Całość wieńczy podsumowanie, w którym wskazano najistotniejsze konkluzje oraz postulaty dotyczące stosowania SDC. Dla wygody czytelnika na końcu opracowania zamieszczono słownik występujących w nim pojęć. Z uwagi na uniwersalność zagadnienia publikacja została opracowana tak, aby mogła służyć metodologom projektującym badania statystyczne oraz odpowiedzialnym za ich jakość i bezpieczeństwo zgromadzonych w ich wyniku informacji. Stąd duży wybór przykładów i praktycznych omówień przedstawianych zagadnień, które pozwalają lepiej zrozumieć przekazywane treści. Monografia ma obszerne angielskie streszczenie.

Finansal Gelişim, Demokrasi ve Beşeri Sermayenin Gelir Dağılımına Etkisi

Although there are many empirical studies examining the effects of financial development on economic growth performance of countries, the impact of the increased national income as a result of financial development on the low-income segments of society and income distribution is mostly ignored. In addition, it is also well-known fact that there are contradictory arguments about the impact of financial development on income distribution. However, according to the hypothesis called "financial Kuznets hypothesis" which has been introduced in recent years, in the initial stages of financial development, high asymmetric information and the high cost of accessing financial resources deteriorates the income distribution. Along with the maturation of the financial system, access to financial resources of the low-income segment is facilitated therefore income distribution is positively affected. To sum up, according to this hypothesis, an inverted U-shaped relationship exists between financial development and income inequality. This study aims to examine the validity of the financial Kuznets hypothesis for the period of 1990-2013 for 23 developing countries. In this direction, it is aimed to examine the effects of economic growth, democracy, human capital and financial development on income inequality. For this purpose, panel unit root, panel cointegration, panel FMOLS long-run coefficient estimator and panel causality tests are utilized to examine the relationship between mentioned variables. As a result of the empirical analyses, it is seen that when the findings are evaluated on the basis of the panel, increasing national income, democracy level and human capital accumulation reduces income inequality. Furthermore, it is found that there is Ushaped relationship between financial development and income inequality and therefore the existence of financial Kuznets hypothesis is not confirmed.

Finansal gelişme, finansal piyasalarda birbirinden farklı birçok menkul varlığın bulunması ve bunların piyasa katılımcıları tarafından daha fazla kullanılabilir hale gelmesiyle tanımlanır. Diğer bir deyişle, finansal gelişme, finansal piyasaların gelişmişliği ile ilgili bir ifadedir. Ekonomik büyüme ise en basit tanımıyla, bir ekonomide üretim kapasitesinin, üretim miktarının ve bu nedenle milli gelirin artışını ifade eder (Erim ve Türk, 2005).

The proceedings before you brings together the collected works based on a smaller part of the presentations at the round table "Historiography/History in Contemporary Society". The meeting was held on October 11 and 12, 2011 as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the scientific work of the Croatian Institute of History. The aim of the meeting was to determine historiographical trends over the past half century and to question the diverse research perspectives and methods of using and processing information about historical heritage, to examine different historiographical discourses and the interaction of these discourses with political and educational discourses and to consider their relationship to the phenomenon of memory. Our desire was also to assess the contribution of the Croatian Institute of History and the scientific work of its employees to historical research.

Status i modeli izučavanja metodike u nauci i obrazovanju - Zbornik radova

The proceedings Status and Models of Methodology Research in Science and Education are the result of a research project and an international scientific conference held on November 20 and 21, 2023, at the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy. The initial thesis – that methodology is a neglected scientific field on the margins of interest “between science and profession”, - has been confirmed in numerous papers covering topics from andragogy, literature and language teaching methodology, history, work with gifted students, extracurricular activities, and learning outcomes, as well as other important topics relevant to teaching methodology. The collection contains 16 papers, 15 of which are written in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian Language, and one in English.
