On the basis of extensive Italian, Croatian and Slovene literature the author examines the circumstances and the political situation in Rijeka in the period between 1918 and 1924, the foundation and activities of the Communist party, the attitude of Italy, the Yugoslav government and the two nationalities. .Particular attention is given to the specific position of Rijeka from the end of World War I until the Treaty of Rome in 1924, with the social and economic structure of the city from the beginning of the century onwards being looked into as well.

The author discusses certain aspects of the Trieste working classes and the reaction of their political organizations and trade unions to the new structures of the Italian capital which, after the year 1918 replaced the Austro-Hungarian on the Trieste capital market. The social and national problems of the Trieste socialists coincided with marked fractional conflicts within the Italian Socialist Party. The intervention of Fascism and the repressive power of the State suppressed the revolutionary zeal of the Trieste working classes.

On the basis of literature and the Italian archives the author gives ah account of the persecution suffered by the Slovene minority in Venezia Giulia in the first decade after the Italian occupation. Special attention is paid to the first Trieste trial in 1930, at which Slovene patriots received exceptionally heavy penalties, with four of them being even sentenced to death and shot at Bazovica.

Arhiv Inštituta za zgodovino delavskega gibanja je v letu 1979 med pomembnejše pridobitve novega arhivskega gradiva zabeležil prevzem dela arhiva Zveze kmetskih fantov in deklet (ZKFID). Gradivo je izročila vdova dolgoletnega predsednika ZKFID Ivana Kronovška, Lojzka Kronovšek. To gradivo ji je leta 1942 uspelo rešiti pred uničenjem v prostorih sedeža glavnega odbora ZKFID in uprave »Grude«, kjer je bila takrat zaposlena. Gradivo je hranila ves čas okupacije, po končani vojni oz. po preselitvi Kronovškovih iz Ljubljane v Orlo vas pri Braslovčah pa so ga odpeljali na svojo domačijo. Prevzeto gradivo obsega približno dva tekoča metra, od tega je manj kot polovica arhivskega gradiva, ostalo je časopisno in knjižno gradivo. Po pregledu in ureditvi celotnega gradiva se je pokazalo, da gre za tri skupine gradiva, in sicer: za gradivo glavnega odbora ZKFID, osebno zbirko Ivana Kronovška in gradivo uprave in uredništva revije »Gruda«, glasila ZKFID. The author discusses the standpoints of the Slovene Communists (and also the communists from other parts of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia) towards the Macedonian nation in the discussion on the national issue initiated in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in the second half of 1923. In this discussion the Slovene communists never doubted the national individuality of the Macedonians and were thus the first in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia to regard, already in 1923, the Macedonians as a separate and independent nation, pleading that they beconsidered as such in the entire Communist Party of Yugoslavia. The author also discusses the standpoints of the Slovene communists towards the national issue in general, emphasizing the fact that they were the first in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia to reject the idea of national unity and to accept federalism as the only possible solution of the national issue in Yugoslavia. He also explains the reasons that determined the standpoint of the Slovene communists that the Macedonians were a nation and draws attention to the influence which this standpoint had on the young Slovene left-wing intelectuals in the second half of the twenties.

The treatise is an analysis of the confrontation and the dialogue between the communists and the Christian socialists in Slovenia in the period between the two World Wars. The dialogue was the result of the specific political circumstances in the Slovene labour movement and cleared up some of the fundamental issues in terms of the formation of the United Labour Front (on revolution, on the position of religious followers in socialism, on political pluralism, on economic management, on democracy, individual freedom, etc.).

In the elections for the Italian House of Commons in 1921 four Slovenes in the Gorizia province and one Croat in Istria were elected. The author traces their struggle for cultural and economic minority rights. She establishes that their efforts failed not only because of the fierce opposition of the fascists but also because of the ideological differences within the Slovene deputy group.

Med organizacijami, ki so bile nasprotne slovenski skupnosti na Koroškem v času prve avstrijske republike, gre posebno mesto tako imenovani „Koroški domovinski zvezi", Kaemtner Heimatbundu (KHB). O njej je bilo že marsikaj napisanega. Tako je znano, da je KHB leta 1924 izšel iz plebiscitnega Kaemtner Heimatdiensta, organizacije, ki so jo 1919. leta ustanovile koroške deželne oblasti in ki naj bi s propagando (pa tudi z drugimi sredstvi) prispevala k proavstrijskemu izidu plebiscita. V vodstvu organizacije so bili sprva zastopani tudi koroški socialni demokrati, vendar so zaradi postopne prevlade nedemokratičnih tendenc izstopili iz nje leta 1924. Kaemtner Heimatdienst sedaj celostno ne preide le v roke meščanskega in nacističnega tabora, ampak se tudi preimenuje v Kaemtner Heimatbund. V tridesetih letih organizacija ne sodeluje le z nastopajočim nacizmom, ampak mu je tudi v oporo. Značilno je na primer dejstvo, da je bila „Domovinska hiša" (Haus der Heimat) v Dobrli vasi, odprta leta 1937, tudi zbirališče takratnih „ilegalnih" nacistov. [...]
