Юмор Воланда в польских и чешских переводах Мастера и Маргариты
This paper constitutes an effort to compare manners of presentation of Satan’s (Woland’s) humour in Polish and Czech translations of Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. Polish and Czech translations can be divided according to the time of creation into: older ones ― by Irena Lewandowska, Witold Dąbrowski and Alena Moravková, and newer ones ― from the 1990s, by Andrzej Drawicz and Libor Dvořak. The aim of the paper is to compare Bulgakov’s humour reception over a span of the second half of the 20th century and to present manners of its reflection in translation. The paper contains examples of verbal and situational humour, which create figure’s comical character. Instances of comic scenes with Satan come from five different editions of The Master and Margarita.
