Summary/Abstract: The monograph entitled “Un mundo cambiante en la enseñanza de la lengua y la literatura contemporáneas” is a collection of academic papers presented at the international conference organised in Cracow on 25-28 March 2018 by the Institute of Romance Languages and Translation Studies of the University of Silesia, Sociedad Española de Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura, the Cervantes Institute, the University of Łódź and by the Jagiellonian University. The volume contains articles which might be of special interest to those focusing on the broadly understood problems of teaching Spanish as a foreign language. On one hand, the papers discuss theoretical issues, and on the other practical aspects of teaching a foreign language. The authors include academics concentrating on didactics as well as teachers presenting their observations from real classroom situations. Many of them use additional research conducted by sociologists, psychologists and anthropologists, which means that the volume offers a multifaceted perspective on didactics.

- Keywords:folk literature; foreign language acquisition; intercultural competence; collective imaginary; learning unit
- Summary/Abstract:There is no doubt about the fact that folk literature is an increasingly valuable tool for developing students’ intercultural competence. The varied forms and manifestations comprised within this literary genre reveal the collective imaginary of the culture that both creates and consumes this type of discourse. Drawing particularly on folk tales, we argue that they promote and maintain a fruitful dialogue between foreign students’ source and target-culture. An important aspect to consider is the fact that learning a foreign language does not solely consist of acquiring a linguistic code; it requires the proper knowledge of the corresponding culture. In light of the previously stated arguments, this paper aims to present a learning unit model designed for the acquisition of a foreign language. At the core of the didactic sequence design lies one of the pillars of the source-culture, folk tales.

- Summary/Abstract:The work proposal that we present aims to analyse perceptions about intercultural diversity in a broad sense – linguistic, religious, ethnic, gender – among the Faculty Teachers Training students (University of Valencia). The reasons behind this research can be found, on the one hand, in the presence of different competences related to interculturality in the Higher Education’s curricula; and, on the other, in the need for future teachers to be able to address intercultural diversity in our classrooms, more and more plural.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this paper is to show the possibilities of a didactic based on textual genres in the teaching-learning of a specialized language in university contexts. Language teaching is a challenge that requires to adapt constantly to new social needs, especially, making didactic proposals that reflect the multiple social uses of the language (Bajtín, 2005). Taking as a starting point de Pietro and Schneuwly’s (2003) proposals and socio-discursive interactionism (Bronckart, Dolz, 2007), we designed a didactic sequence focused on the production of an informative-pedagogical text. In order to put the students in front of the real and social use of the language and to make the learning more significant, we use a digital medium such as Wikipedia. Throughout the activity students must perform tasks of consultation, reading, translation and revision of the writing to get a publishable text.

- Summary/Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to discuss the specific uses of scientific language in the academic field. Every day the university teaching staff considers what methodology should be used to approach the scientific discourse to undergraduate and postgraduate students. In the present intervention we propose a specific methodology to teach or improve, as the case may be, the written expression of university students. This methodological proposal has been put into practice at the University of Jaén during the current academic year 2017/18 in a Written Expression Workshop obtained in public call (2016/17). This workshop had more than 200 students enrolled (of disparate disciplines), of which more than 50% have passed the proposed tests to improve their writing.

- Keywords:language diversity; Compulsory Secondary Education; teachers’ beliefs; text Books
- Summary/Abstract:Language diversity should be a cultural richness but sometimes in Spain seems that it becomes a problem. Opinions contrary to that multilingualism can influence in public opinion. This study complements another one where we studied the beliefs of the students in Fourth year of Compulsory Secondary Education. In this case, we extend the perspective to the beliefs of the teachers of that same course on the subject and the presence of linguistic diversity in the books used by those same students and teachers. The results show a contradiction between the favourable opinions of the students to the question posed and the little attention given by books and teachers to the study of something so important to unite society, as to integrate all the languages of the State.

- Summary/Abstract:We are living an era where new generations are developing within a virtual world very different from past generations. Now, we are working with young iGen who are born between 1995 and 2012 (Twenge, 2017: 9). Therefore, teaching methods should be adapted to all that encourages learning to this new generation. Kathy Schrock has proposed a design that coordinates Revise Bloom’s Taxonomy with the integration of technology. According to this model, the educator takes advantage of some technological tools to create a better learning experience within the classroom. Students go from the analysis to the evaluation and then to the creation of their final product. The use of technology and some specific applications in the classroom are more and more necessary tools to complement the teaching of a foreign language.

- Summary/Abstract:Although the didactics of the language and especially of the foreign language proposes the concept of intercultural competence as one of the objectives in the teaching-learning process, little attention receives this concept in our classrooms. Many are the teachers who consider the linguistic competence as the most important and think that the communicative and intercultural competences belong to the field of the personal experience of the student. We believe that it is necessary to promote a new vision of the teaching of culture as a basis for communication, so that its treatment in the classroom ceases to be a set of knowledge about the history, geography, institutions of a country; even less about the tourist characteristics of a country.

- Keywords:curriculum research; educational terminology; educational personnel training; didactic transposition; foreign languages;qualitative analysis;
- Summary/Abstract:In this article we draw from the notion of didactic transposition (Chevallard, 1985/1991) as training expertise (Perrenoud, 1998). We study the logic relations between the curricular components established in the legal provisions for foreign languages teaching, and the parameters that describe the use and learning of languages in the Common European framework of reference for languages. We adopt a qualitative and interpretive approach and apply the global technique of semantic content analysis, for which we pinpoint a category system with the components and parameters defined. Since data are composed of fragments of the official curriculum statements, and are logged in the operational framework of analysis as configured, we interpret them in terms of coherence of the adaptive transformations identified. The latter are characterized by alignments, and misalignments and the operational framework of analysis is helpful as a basis for a complementary strategy for teacher professional development, and of learning outcomes.

Análisis cuantitativo de la repercusión del m-learning en el proceso de mejora de la competencia ortográfica del alumnado
Análisis cuantitativo de la repercusión del m-learning en el proceso de mejora de la competencia ortográfica del alumnado

- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies
- Page Range:137-148
- No. of Pages:12
- Keywords:m-learning; Spanish orthography; active methodologies; teacher mediation; autonomous learning;digital competence;
- Summary/Abstract:We are currently observing how orthography is a discipline in which many students have difficulties. Several teachers consider that this may be due to the widespread use of social networks, chats, etc., which have led to an excessive simplification of the language. However, we believe that new technologies, and especially m-learning, can contribute positively to the acquisition of a good command of orthography. Therefore, we have carried out a fieldwork in which we intend to confirm our hypothesis. The work we present is eminently quantitative and aims to offer a neutral analysis based on the information provided by statistical data. The results seem to indicate that, indeed, there is a correlation between the use of m-learning and the improvement in orthography competence. Additionally, the provided mathematical function describes the expected improvements according to students’ previous competence.
