The culinary recipe is a genre that has undergone numerous modifications related to its transmission medium over the centuries. Originally, it functioned in the oral form, but with the development of writing, it began to appear in the written form as well. After the invention of audiovisual media, cooking advice began to be made available via television and, over time, also via the Internet (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok). The first recipes were formulated by people widely regarded as authorities, but later any Internet user could become a creator. The type of audience has also changed. The passive reader has become an active and dynamic co-creator of culinary advice.

ASPECTS HUMORISTIQUES DES CHRONIQUES DE FOUAD LAROUI : LE CAS DE L’ANGLAIS QUI VEUT SAUVER AL HOCEIMA

The paper addresses some humorous aspects of the writer Fouad Laroui’s chronicles posted on the French-speaking Moroccan information site Le360. To this end, our analysis focuses on an article published on August 3, 2016: The Englishman who wants to save Al Hoceima. We seek to detect all the characteristics of the irony that the author adopts each time to create humour in the eyes of the reader. In principle, the humorous statement depends radically on the social and psychological identity of the speakers. As already mentioned, our analysis of Laroui's chronicle focuses on narrative irony, more specifically, its tools and characteristics

Without a shadow of a doubt, the rise of digital media has revolutionised the information process at multiple levels. Nowadays, internet users can comment, criticise, and shape news in just a few clicks. In this dynamic environment, political caricature is reinventing itself on new media platforms, replacing traditional sketching with more advanced software. Interestingly, this form of expression is no longer exclusive to professional illustrators. Internet users have embraced it to express their views on political news in a playful and ironic tone. This paper aims to analyse this discourse, using parodies, satirical illustrations, and nicknames to criticize the political landscape in Morocco.

UNE ANNÉE CHEZ LES FRANÇAIS DE FOUAD LAROUI : UN DRAME ENTRE HUMOUR ET IRONIE

The reader laughs while reading Fouad LAROUI’s novels. Yet, his writings are far from being comic, they are utterly serious, very serious, in fact; we laugh about serious things! This, paradoxically, raises the question of the laugher himself, with extreme acuteness. This reversed perspective brings us to some essential issues in the work of this author and his conception of art. We shall analyse the novel Une Année chez les Français, focusing essentially on the comic devices and the traces of the irony. We shall unravel the functioning of the text which comes in various layers: from an intuition of the reader which triggers laughter in the beginning, next arousing a cautious laugh, to eventually suspending laughter when the mechanism turns against the reader himself.

LE MOUVEMENT DE PROTESTATION COMME LIEU DE CONSTRUCTION DU DISCOURS ÉMOTIONNEL DES ALGÉRIENS

This contribution studies the expression of emotions in the digital discourse produced around the Algerian Hirak. From a corpus of posts and comments on Facebook and videos on Youtube, we propose to analyze, on an enunciative and pragmatic level, the expression of emotion through the strategies employed by writers. To do this, we study, on different levels, the elements allowing to characterize the emotional dimension of the speeches analyzes. These levels ensure a complexity of emotional speech and invite us to scrutinize emotion through referential erasure, dialogism, speech acts as well as elements relating to technodiscourse.

APPROCHES PHILOSOPHIQUES ET LINGUISTIQUES SUR LE SENS : LES ÉMOTIONS

The study of emotions is both a complex and heterogeneous field. Hence, it proves necessary to proceed to a multidisciplinary approach and to analyze the evolution of the historical context of the concept of emotion, which has become for years a topical issue in scientific research. Nowadays, moreover, emotions are a contemporary challenge to progress, in many disciplines, including health, technology or robotics. In this context, it should be noted that the development of these fields is directly interrelated to language sciences. Indeed, any form of semiotic or semantic expression would be likely to be linked to the conceptualisation of notions of meaning and significance, especially when formulating the hypothesis that emotions are part of the configuration of language. Their identification, description and categorisation will promote not only knowledge of their functioning and their role in any verbal exchange, in any human interaction, but also their programming and use in related sciences. In this paper, our aim is to highlight how the idea of emotion has been grasped, described and constructed by philosophers and linguists throughout the history of philosophical and scientific thinking and also to update linguistic research.

The first best seller of Balzac, the novel La Peau de Chagrin (1831) features more than a fantastic story about a pact with the devil and the destructive consequences it brings about. In reality, the adventure of the young intellectual Raphaël de Valentin reveals a moral and ontological significance, relying on the choice between an active life of frivolous pleasures and a calm life of domestic happiness. In this paper, we shall examine how the tragic destiny of the protagonist derives from his confusion between enduring happiness and the ephemeral pleasure offered by a hedonistic lifestyle, all within the social context of the birth of capitalism in the early 19th century.

CASTIGAT RIDENDO MORES - ANALYSE DE L’HUMOUR NOIR DE LA PRESSE ROUMAINE SUR NOS POLITICIENS PENDANT LA QUATRIÈME VAGUE PANDÉMIQUE

A protean genre, difficult to frame and analyse, humor manifests itself, among others, in laughter, an expression of a feeling of fun and gaiety. Apart from its obvious social function, laughter also performs an educational and cathartic function, as long as by mocking at the faults of others, one corrects them. Based on a series of articles published between September-November 2021 by some Romanian daily newspapers, we review some forms of derision and humor in relation to Romanian politicians, including puns, cultural allusions, malicious nicknames and coinages. The working hypothesis is that laughing at the political power, whatever its form (mockery, irony, black humor, sarcasm, pamphlet, etc.) is a sort of protest, of virulent criticism of political decisions of the moment and that, despite the political, health and energy crisis that our country is going through, the Romanians have not lost their sense of humour.

"GETTING IT ACROSS THE TABLE":THE "MANIFESTLY" DISCOURSE ADVERBIALS REVISITED

The paper reconsiders the semantic and pragmatic roles of a subset of parenthetical linguistic expressions that typically go under a general heading of sentence (or sentential) adverbs (or adverbials) or pragmatic markers. The subset comprises expressions that encode the speaker’s strongest subjective stance to the proposition expressed by the utterance (e.g. the English expressions obviously, clearly, evidently, certainly and surely, and their Serbian counterparts očigledno, jasno, sigurno and svakako). Given the main, theoretic, orientation of the paper, however, the contrastive issue had to be neglected. Still, the paper gives an impetus for contrastive studies, in particular, regarding the encoded linguistic meaning in relation to interactional import. An accumulation of contrastive data, and analyses thereof, will contribute not only to re-evaluating and refining what we have come to know about encoded meaning, but also, and more importantly, to solving the contentious issue of the strict conceptual/procedural dichotomy.

GENDER VARIABLE IN REALIZATION OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS

This paper deals with the gender variable in realization of directive speech acts, such as requests, suggestions, advice etc. The sample for this small-scale research consists of 328 instances of directive speech acts which are excerpted from the transcripts of selected dialogues of the popular US sitcom Friends and five American feature-length films. Directive speech acts are analyzed using Blum-Kulka et al’s classification (1989) and divided into three broad categories– direct, conventionally indirect, and non-conventionally indirect with many subcategories. The focus of this paper will be on direct strategies typically expressed with imperatives and on conventionally indirect directives usually expressed with interrogative sentences which include a suggestory formula and preparatory strategies, with special emphasis on their use in male and female language. The goal of the paper is to analyze and compare gender preferences in using different strategies for the realization of directives, with the assumption that women will be more thoughtful of the hearer’s face and use indirect forms more frequently than men. This is in line with Holmes’s (1995) characterization of women’s speech as more polite than men’s. The paper will analyze the use of these directive strategies in F-F interactions, M-M interactions, M-F interactions and F-M interactions. The illustrative examples will be analyzed using the theory of speech acts and politeness theory, using qualitative, quantitative and comparative research methods.

Súčasný slovakistický výskum na Filozofickej fakulte Univerzity v Novom Sade

The paper deals with scientific research and publishing activities at the Department of Slovak Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad in the last ten-year period (2013 – 2023). There is a wide range of scientific interests and research of a predominantly synchronous nature, using comparative, contrastive, functional and communicative and pragmatic methodological approaches within applied and preventive linguistics. The paper gives a brief history of the department and presents the projects and publishing activities of Slovakists from Novi Sad in the fields of lexicology, morphosyntax, dialectology, phraseology, sociolinguistics, ecolinguistics, applied and preventive linguistics, as well as in the field of interdisciplinary research, research into the methodology of Slovak language teaching in specific conditions, as well as research into Slovak as a foreign language. Prospects for further research can be seen in all the mentioned areas with an emphasis on comparative and contrastive Slovak-Serbian research, research into interlanguage interference, as well as bilingualism, phraseology and Slovak as a foreign language.

Gli studi linguistici in "Ricerche slavistiche" (1952-2021)

The author discusses articles published in “Ricerche slavistiche” from 1952 to 2021 pertaining the field of Slavic Linguistics, so she does not take into consideration the numerous papers devoted to philology and ecdotics. Firstly, she presents essays on lexicon and language variety (§ 1) within the various Slavic languages, then she considers those essays that are more clearly devoted to morphosyntactic phenomena (§ 2). She pays special attention to the evolution of approaches, methods and themes, together with elements of the Italian and international context helping to understand the role of “Ricerche slavistiche” in the spread and development of Linguistics in Italian Slavic studies during the seventy years of the journal’s activity.

SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT AND “ISPANSKYI STYD” FROM CROSS-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

The research of concepts is a common issue in cross-cultural studies. Recently in the context of the war between Russia and Ukraine the Russian Diaspora from all over the world tries to express their opinion on the created situation as more and more nations worldwide develop a negative attitude towards the Russian and their language. They speak about secondhand embarrassment and “ispanskyi styd” as a feeling they experience. Russian sources insist that the term “ispanskyi styd” (also Spanish shame) used in Russian in the mentioned context is supposed to have entered the Russian language from English in the globalization period. This article is an attempt to clarify the existing terminology in English on the topic and by doing that to identify the role of the concept denoted by the existing expressions among the important cultural values for the Anglophone world. Also the study can help confirm or deny whether the phrase “ispanskyi styd” in Russian has English roots or it has entered Russian via English.

ASPECTS OF THE DOBRUDGEAN TOPONYMY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ROMANIAN TOPONYMY

Romanian toponymy evolved over the years and millennia from a linguistic point of view. Topical names appeared at certain historical moments and are associated with certain moments in the material and spiritual life of people, leaving a trace of society from different eras. The research of Dobrudgean toponymy highlights current problems and aspects in the general and Romance linguistics. These problems and aspects have materialized in analyses and interpretations of distinct toponymic facts and phenomena, as a result of the complexity of investigation methods and principles at the contemporary level. The way of life of the inhabitants, the relations and the direct links between people and society, etc. played a special role in this process. We can assert that the cities in Dobrogea are very stable, regardless of their ethnicity, and the toponymic names provide an additional proof of the continuity and stability of the Romanian society in medieval and contemporary Dobrogea.

SOME DIMINUTIVE FORMS CONTAINING THE SUFFIX -EL USED ON THE INTERNET IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS (2019-2024)

The class of diminutives on the online environment is characterized by evolution, mostly a quantitative one, in the sense that it is constantly enriching with recent and neological diminutive forms. In the present article, the term ʺdiminutiveʺ will reffer to words that convey the notion of ʺsmallnessʺ which can be interpreted literally or metaphorically, by adding a diminutive suffix (in our case ʺ-elʺ) to a base word. The aim of the present descriptive study is to make an inventory of some new diminutive forms containing the suffix ʺ-elʺ excerpted from the Internet in the last five years and in this way to illustrate the creativity of Internet users. The focus will be on morphological cathegories of the diminutives: nouns, adjectives, adverbs and interjections. These will be presented along with the context in which they were used, all of them being selected from the virtual space, from different online conversations.

THE PRAGMATICS OF DISCOURSE IN HEALTH CARE AND FOOD ADVERTISING TEXTS- A CROSSLINGUISTIC APPROACH IN TERMS OF ‘DEDICATED’ PHRASES (ENGLISH – ROMANIAN)

This article aims to analyze the pragmatics of the advertising discourse. We live in a world in which advertising and the advertising discourse have a major significance. There are advertising messages or discourses with a pure informative purpose, but there are also other patterns, such as: the metalinguistic advertising discourse, the poetic advertising discourse, the advertising discourse with an expressive or emotional function, the advertising message with a conative or phatic function. Some forms of advertising discourse have cognitive and communicative functions. By means of this article, we tried to sketch a general view on the advertising discourse and its functions. We illustrated these theoretical examples with a series of illustrative examples, featuring some of the most famous commercials. To create a brand implies, in the end, concentration, efficacy, efficiency and coherence, all these dimensions and valences being present in the advertising discourse.

LEXICAL MODIFIERS IN THE ROMANIAN JOURNALISTIC DISCOURSE

This article aims to present concepts and theories to be used later in the analysis of linguistic sequences containing lexical modifiers which come from the Romanian journalistic discourse. To begin with, an incursion will be made from a theoretical perspective in order to establish the meaning of concepts such as: lexical, grammatical, lexico-grammatical and prosodic modalizers. In the second part of the article, the types of lexical modifiers will be approached semantically, grammatically and pragmatically.

CALQUE AND LANGUAGE IDEOLOGY IN CONTEMPORARY JOURNALISM

The aim of this paper is to show that the calque phenomenon has a major impact on the process of Romanian contemporary journalism, leading to its evolution. This way, the evolution of the press has also had a major impact on the media phenomenon. The process of calque, also known as loan translation, has been a subject of study in terms of enhancing a language's vocabulary through external methods. This aids the formation of fresh terminologies in both general and specialized areas of language.
