The aim of this study is to identify whether the 6th Grade Turkish texbook and workbook meet the criteria suggested by Güneyli (2011) and to create vocabulary exercises using corpus data. This study, the method of which is a descriptive survey model, reveals that these books are appropriate in terms of using Turkish vocabulary, cognitive and language development level, regarding the frequency of use of words, concreteness, connotation of words, expediency, including different methods-techniques, tools and activities. However, they aren’t appropriate in terms of basic concepts, imagery and activities of pragmatic analysis. Furthermore, some activities can be improved to meet the criteria of vocabulary teaching and analysis.

Orhan Pamuk ve Fakir Baykurt’un iki romaninda deyim, atasözü ve ikilemeler bakimindan söz varliği

In this study, the idioms, proverbs and reduplications in Orhan Pamuk’s “Sessiz Ev” and Fakir Baykurt’s “Yılların Öcü” has been found out through scanning method. The frequency of occurrence of the vocabulary in these novels has been revealed by means of numbers. In this context, which writer benefited from idioms, proverbs and reduplications most and reflected them in their literary works has been investigated. To what extent these writers has been successful at making use of idioms, proverbs and reduplications has also been explored.

Фонетични особености на съгласните в турския говор на село Венец – Шуменско

The article presents a study of the Turkish dialect spoken by the inhabitants of the village of Venets, municipality of Venets, Shumen region. It describes the characteristics of the studied Turkish dialect, existing and developing in a dialect medium, typical of the Misian Turkish dialect, mainly at a phonetic level as most typical representation of speech, the interaction of consonants and the phonetic phenomena related to them. With respect to the aim of the study, more attention is paid to the phonetic characteristics of the dialect, which distinguish it from the literary Turkish language. With regards to phonetics, the focus was not so much on individual words, but to phenomena contained in these words. The main methods of investigation were auditory analysis and transcription. The realization of the consonants in the speech is described. The transcription used in the study is based on the transcription, traditionally used in the Bulgarian Turkology.

Структура и семантика на редупликациите в турския език

Reduplications, taking place in our tongue’s rich vocabulary are usually defined as phrases created for reinforcement and strengthen the meaning. We consider these phrases, which is also seen as a new word formation method in itself, as a worth stressing subject especially on formation and intra sentence functions. First of all, we emphasized on the definition of reduplication. We mentioned about the entity of repetitions, reiterations, and doublings which were used as substitutes in other related studies. In this study, firstly we emphasized notion of reduplication and also position of double reduplication frames as a notion. After that we listed the double reduplication frames in Turkish about the priorities of main vocabulary. The aim of this report is to examine the structure, semantics and functional characteristics of reduplication presented in various iterations as one of the word formation models in the Turkish language.

Insights into Teaching Poetry Translation: A Pleasurable Task

In the Translation Departments of Higher Education Institutions in Turkey as in elsewhere, poetry translation is the least studied and the most discussed course among the students who usually harbor pessimistic opinion about the possibility of going through a successful and pleasurable course. In this study, an integrated approach to the teaching of poetry translation is proposed by means of studying Philip Larkin’s poem “Mr Bleaney” as the text for translation into Turkish, which is the mother tongue of the students concerned. The proposed integrated approach is an insight into the teaching of poetical translation bringing together a preliminary study of the formal, contextual and artistic elements of poetry in general and the poem as the text to be translated in particular, with that of a sound and comprehensive study of theoretical notions of poetical translation. It is hoped that this approach may prove to equip the students with the required confidence, skills, knowledge, and competencies to turn the practice of poetry translation into a pleasurable task.

This paper focuses on the dimensions of water symbols in the culture and phraseology of Bulgarian, German and Turkish linguistic community. It discusses the semantic dimension of water. The diversity of images reveals two symbolic meanings of water that are fundamental and opposite at the same time, and namely positive and negative. On the one hand, the running clear water is considered to be the main source of life and the promising beginning that purifies, heals, and brings luck and happiness. On the other hand, the impure and stagnant water brings misfortune and is associated with laziness and betrayal.

SÖZ EDİMLERİ KURAMI BAĞLAMINDA ATASÖZLERİ-DEYİMLERDE TOPLUM/TOPLULUK ADLARI VE DUYGU DEĞERLERİ

The theory of speech acts is a theory of language philosophy introduced by J. L. Austin. According to this theory, when something is said, something is done at the same time. Every word that is said will cause some changes in the addressee’s emotions and thoughts. These changes take place in three dimensions, namely the locutionary act, the illocutionary act and the perlocutionary act. Proverbs and idioms are the elements of language in which societies/communities of different sizes sustain their own cultures and transfer them to the future. In these proverbs and idioms, it is possible to find the perspectives and thoughts of societies/communities. They are also the means by which the societies and communities they belong to identify themselves and other societies/communities. For this reason, there are some emotion values (connotation) in the words that inform the society. Proverbs and idioms are described in the words of these societies and communities are defined and given advice about them. In these words, the words that express the society are frequently used. When we look at these characteristics of proverbs and idioms in the context of speech acts theory, it is important to know what kind of actions occur and what changes in emotions and thoughts occur. Society/community names in proverbs and idioms are also meaningful for these acts.In this study, firstly, Turkish proverbs and idioms have been identified names notifying the society and community. Then, the values of the connotations of the society names are discussed in the positive/negative or neutral context. The acts in these proverbs and idioms in the context of Austin's speech acts theory are examined and their position in the definition of society itself and the other is shown, than locutionary acts, the illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts are discussed.

“SŁOWNIK KARAIMSKO-ROSYJSKO-POLSKI*” ADLI ESERDE GEÇEN KARAY (KARAİM) ATASÖZLERİ VE BUNLARIN SES, ŞEKİL VE SÖZ VARLIĞI AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Today, there are Turkish groups living under different states in different geographies. The religion of these Turkish groups has changed in parallel with this. Although there are a lot of people with a belief in Islam within the Turkish world, there are also Turks who believe in religions like Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Tengrism, etc. While the contribution of the different elements together, basically the Oghuz origin Turks from Turkey and Gagauzs can be given an example for this. The same is true for the Karaims, Krymchaks and Crimean-Tatars, where the Kipchak elements dominate.The Karays who adopted the Jewish faith apart from the Crimean-Tatars is considered as a continuation of the Khazars. Karaims, who previously lived in the Crimean Peninsula, has moved to other territories for various reasons. This migration led to the emergence of dialects (Crimea, Halich-Lutsk, Trakai) in the Karaim Turkish. Karaim Turkish, which is at one of the first place among the Turkish dialects that are missing, the first written works of Karaim Turkish was consisted of texts with Hebrew letters with religious content. Karay Turkish, which has a strong oral literary tradition, has many archaic features. Especially since it is transferred from generation to generation, it is possible to identify many archaic elements especially in proverbs composed of stereotypes. These archaic elements manifest themselves in voice, form and vocabulary. In our study, in the work, called “Słownık Karaımsko-Rosyjsko-Polskı” proverbs of Karaim Turks were removed from the headlines, latinized as transcripted and meanings of these have been showed in Turkey Turkish. Then the prominent elements of these proverbs in terms of voice, form and vocabulary, have given under certain headings.

TUVA TÜRKÇESİNDE -(I)IşkIn EKİ

From the beginning of 20th century, science and technology have experienced a great leap. Because of the this Information Explosion, a great number of new terms emerged in this period. Every language has its own ways of deriving new terms. In Turkish language, there are some ways of making new terms: derivation, acronyms, blendings, compundings, borrowings, loan translations (calques), analogy and etc. New terms should be transparent, systematic, consistent, monosemous, context free, actual, economical. Tuvan Turkish is spoken by over 300.000 people in Republic of Tuva, Northhern Mongolia and China. Tuvan Turkish belongs to the Siberian branch of the Turkic languages. The Tuvans have been living under Russian domination since the early 20th century. During the period of the Soviet Union, a plenty of terms about communism and other scientific terms entered the Tuvan language. And also In Tuvan language, there are a plenty of loan words from Mongolian, Russian and other languages and withal new terms can be derived by the aid of some denominal and deverbal suffixes, for example –(I)IşkIn. This deverbal suffix can derive new terms from echo words, loan words and it derive tool names, abstract nouns; it can takes another suffixes from itself. For this reasons, we can accept the suffix –(I)IşkIn is so productive deverbal suffix.

Türk-Fars Dil İlişkisinde Bir Alan-Dilbilim Örneği: Ben / Men Zamiri

In New Persian language the form of the first person pronoun is men. In some Turkic dialects the first person pronoun is used as men too. As known Turkish and Persian are not from common language family. So how to explain the first person pronoun which is common in both languages? In this case, there are some possibilities. The first possibility is the result of an borrowing. The second possibility is a coincidence. This word may have been borrowed from Turkish to Persian or may have been borrowed from Persian to Turkish. But this article emphasize a third possibility about this issue. This possibility is areal linguistic. In this investigation is discussed the first person pronoun men (I) with all aspects that is used in Turkish and Persian. Also the first single person pronoun in old, middle and new Iranian languages is compared with the first single person pronoun in New Persian. Finally the relationship between the first single pronoun (men) in New Persian and the first single person (ben) in Turkish tried to explain.

Seri Fiil Yapıları ve Türkçe

Languages act as a mechanism of the relations of the internal elements that build them up, and express their existence, concepts, or movements. In other words, phonetics, morphology, lexicology, and syntax move in a coordinated manner with the various associations in order to provide meaning. One of the structures that emerged as a result of the collaboration of grammatical categories is the serial verb structure (SVC). Serial verb structures refer to actual structures in which more than one verb come together or a single verb, thus implying a single event with a single view, including multiple movements marking a single event with a holistic look. Moreover, is important to mark a single event with a syntactic combination of at least two verbs. Studies made in the 19th century frequently claimed the serial verb structures existed in specific African languages, however studies on many other languages/language families were done as well. With this in mind, a number of studies in Turkish about serial verb structures have been put forth. This study both synchronically and diachronically examines the structure of SVCs in Turkish based the opinions from aforementioned studies, as well as aims to determine their characteristics.

Although the studies on the Turkish World initially were conducted by the western scholars, it is known that currently different studies about its various aspects have been carried out by the members of the Turkish World. Certainly, it is a pride to see that from 1990s the researches in the fields of language, culture, history and etc. continue to be carried out at full steam as in Turkey, as well as in the Turkish World. Of course, as Oğuzhan Aydın mentioned in his writing “The Contribution of TURKSOY to Turkic Communities in its 25th Anniversary”, these works will make a great contribution to the planning of all the bodies regarding the subject by showing the big picture of all the works done in every field in Turkish World. Thus, we can see that the weakness of the studies carried out from 1990s up to nowadays is that the level of the studies in the field of Natural Language Processing of Turkic languages and Turkish is at a beginner level.

In order to be meaningful units, words should interact with other units of a sentence and this interaction ought to be provided through various methods. All other necessary items for fulfilling the meaning of a word are called as determiners, while the relation of the word with a determiner is named as valency. From verbs to nouns, all free morphemes have valency. Postpositions, the subject matters of this article, require some suffix adjunctions to nouns, which constitute word groups (i.e. Senin için yaşıyorum; Eve kadar yürümek istiyorum). There are a lot of postpositions that have been used from Old Turkic to Turkish. Postpositions in question can interact with nouns which are used before those postpositions themselves; they also have some specific functions in a sentence.

Türkçe Ders Kitaplarına Seçilecek Metinlerin Belirlenmesinde Çocuğa Görelik İlkesi

It was often recommended to observe "child-appropriateness" as a basic principle while determining the nature of the texts to be used in Turkish textbooks. However, it could be stated that the scope of the “child-appropriateness” principle is not described in concrete terms in the literature. The concept of “child-appropriateness” indicates responding to the learning needs of the child, depending on age and level, in an appropriate way through quality stimuli. This study was carried out to determine the basic concepts on which the principle of “child-appropriateness” is based upon, as well as determining the principles to be observed in the selection of texts for Turkish textbooks. In this respect, the principle of “child-appropriateness” was systematized through three variables namely, "textuality criteria", "teaching-learning principles" and "children's reality". As a result of this study, it was suggested that the main features of texts to be selected for use in Turkish textbooks could be determined through the systematization mentioned above by taking the developmental characteristics of students into consideration starting from the first grade up to the eighth grade, under the guidance of “the textuality criteria” and “the teaching-learning principles”.

UYGHURS IN CHINA-TURKEY RELATIONS

Treatment of Uyghurs in the People’s Republic of China has been one of the hot topics in global media for the last few years. Officials from a number of countries have already expressed their position on the matter. The Turkish and Uyghur peoples belong to the same ethno-linguistic family, namely Turkic. Out of all current Turkic UN member states, Turkey has enjoyed its independence for the longest period. Today, together with other Turkic states that recently regained their independence and with some other Turkic populated autonomies, Turkey is participating in a number of cooperative organisations, such as the Turkic Council and the International Organization of Turkic Culture. This article aims to discuss China-Turkey relations in context of the ongoing Uyghur issue through the lenses of identity. Amity/enmity complex (also known as friend/enemy distinction) has been used to analyse the chosen topic. The result reveals in what way the Uyghur issue pushes the relations between the two countries towards enmity, which then helps interpret certain changes in Turkey’s rhetoric and policies towards China. It is important to stress, as the issue is still ongoing as of 2019, when the current piece was written. Thus, the article’s conclusion should be subjected to revisions as events unravel further.

Türkçe Eğitimi Akademik Alanına İlişkin Bir Değerlendirme: Web of Science Veri Tabanına Dayalı Bibliyometrik İnceleme

The goal of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the researchers in the field of Turkish Language Education in the Web of Science (WoS) database. The data were analyzed by using bibliometric techniques and cooperation analysis. The data of the Turkish educators in the WoS database were analyzed by using VosViewer (Version 1.6.9) package program. The data set was examined in terms of various bibliometric indicators such as publication year, most productive authors, published journals and impact factors, authorship status, authors’ institutions, cited source type, most cited articles, keyword analysis, and most frequently cited publications. According to the results obtained the most frequently published journal was the Education and Science. It was determined that the articles with single authors were in the first place among the authors. Researchers from Gazi University published more publications in the journals of the Web of Science (WoS) database. The most commonly referred source is journal (article).

A Corpus-Driven Study on the Turkish Focus Particle Sırf

This is a corpus-driven study based on the TNCv3.0 to determine the co-occurrence patterns of the focus particle sırf (only/just) in its scopes. The study revealed that sırf’s syntactic associates are largely phrases or clauses of purpose or reason. Over half of the 430 concordance lines analysed had various purpose or reason expressions as sırf’s focused constitutes. The most frequent colligates in the exclusive operator’s scopes are reason and purpose markers diye or için, ranking the first two in its collocation list. This very strong lexical priming suggests a pragmatic motivation. By choosing sırf rather than any other particles like sadece or yalnızca, the speaker not only marks the single reason or purpose for which something is done but also often reflects a negative attitude to reasons or purposes as being unjustifiable. The most unfavourable prosody was detected in the collostruction sırf +noun+ olsun diye, in which almost all the nouns in the ‘noun’ slot are abstract, most of which have negative connotations.

Yeni Uygurca ve Yeni Uygurca Sözlükler

Today, Uyghurs live mainly in Uyghur Autonomous Region, in northwest China and their population approximately amounts to 10 million. Also, nearly 300,000 Uyghurs live in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and in neighbor countries; Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Until the beginnings of the 20th century, East Turkistan Uyghurs were called with their regional names like “Kaşkarlık”, “Turpanlık” etc. Especially, with the foundation of Uyghur Autonomous Region in 1955, they started to use the “Uyghur” ethnic name officially. Now, in Eastern Turkistan, other than Modern Uyghur, five Turkic languages are spoken. These languages are Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tatar and Tuvan. Among these Turkic speaking communities the Modern Uyghur is a common communication language, namely “lingua franca”. There are various ideas on the classification of the dialects of Modern Uyghur.
