Summary/Abstract: The proceedings include partial results from the second year of the research in both fields, i.e. the public sector and the financial sector. The results were presented at a seminar held in Šlapanice on 24 and 25th November 2011. Compared to the last proceedings, in which the main topic was the public sector, this year’s outputs focused on the financial sector.

- Summary/Abstract:Foreign direct investments (FDI) are an important factor of economic growth and make the development in each economy, but also in the regions. Individual regions in each economy are differentiated in terms of maturity, which is conditional on several factors. One of the determining factors is the lack of internal resources required for a sufficient impetus to economic growth. To improve the status of the less advanced regions therefore became the inflow of FDI, an important factor that added to the lack of domestic resources. The inflow of FDI affects the pace of economic growth, decreasing unemployment and assist in the development of individual regions.

- Summary/Abstract:Regions in Slovakia during their more than ten years of existence present from aspect of their fundamental socio-economic characteristics the heterogeneous spatial units with significant differences in development level. To develop regions in accordance with the principles of regional policy, the regional self-government was created. So it presents the youngest form of self-government in Slovakia. Its mission is to fulfill the functions of territorial self-government above the municipal importance, which has given responsibilities, funds, property and other tools. Required by law self-governing regions are responsible for general regional development, but as it is clear from the context of the Act, which underlined the results described in this paper, in practical level their existence reduces more to the performance of the lawful powers, as an initiator of socio-economic development in the regions.
