An interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of food on the islands of the Zadar archipelago — Silba and Olib — consisted of the coordinated work of a cultural anthropologist (ethnologist) who focused on socio-cultural values of local food consumption, and a nutritionist with biological-anthropological training. The goal of the joint research was to help determine, as completely as possible, the biological status of these island populations.

This paper analyses interconnection of gender, nation and national identity. Argumentation is based on the case study which is in this paper Croatia. At the beginning of its independence in the 90’s Croatia faced with transition from totalitarian undemocratic system to a democratic one but also with a need for constructing the national identity which has not always been strongly incorporated in the society not obsessed with nationality and national identity, in a multinational state as Yugoslavia was. That construction of the national identity was made possible with so called return to the tradition where women were supposed to serve the country with theirs reproductive functions meant to enforce the nationalist politics of ethnical reproduction. In the past, Croatian political thought was not meant to be ethnical but civil, and therefore the nationalistic authorities wanted to nationalize the society and breast feed it with the idea of desire for independence that existed since ancient times, and gender played a crucial role in this politics.

Woman’s roles’ conflict can only we observed through its phenomenal forms as this conflict as suck is being experienced, ins of the psychic nature- It emerges due to the existence of a conscious relationship towards woman’s both roles, her role of a monther and her role of a worker. The subjective sphere is also complemented by the so-called objective side of the conflict the worker-mother role involves, which is present in her failure to fulfil all the tasks in both spheres of activity i. e. in the sphere of work and in the sphere of motherhood.

Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of practice tries to bridge the opposition society-individual starting with the premise that when explaining social processes one must take into consideration both objective social structures, and personal experiences and individual choice of attitudes. Bourdieu sees an individual as a subject of social and cultural processes, and not as a mere "transmitter" of cultural norms and social rules forced upon the individual by the environment. By emphasizing the role of social actors in the socially constructed world, this author’s studies represent an ambitious theoretical endeavour to explain both the continuity and change of social and cultural forms. This paper points out to basic theoretical and epistemological premises of theory of practice, and it critically examines its complex ideas on culture. Within Bourdieu’s theoretical explanation, culture is comprehended as a process in which individuals learn implicit cultural rules through experiences in everyday life. Hence, culture is acquired individually, through practice and interaction with people and things from primary surroundings. Within this interpretative frame, material culture is understood as one of important elements of transmission of "generative schemes", i.e. cultural principles and rules which determine thinking, perception and actions of an individual. Special attention in this paper is therefore given to Bourdieu’s interpretation of Kabyle house which had an immense theoretical significance in the area of research of house(s) and material culture in general. By critically analyzing this author’s conclusions, the aim of the paper is to affirm new approaches in research of cultural conceptualization of space and house as a spatial, social and cultural category in Serbian science.

At the beginning of March 2019, social networks published a few video clips showing religious festive event – khatam al Qur’an du’a at the Čaršijska džamija mosque in Srebrenica. The video was recorded on 23.4.1995 in the mosque Čaršijska džamija in Srebrenica. The khatam al Qur’an du’a held on the eve of genocide offers, perhaps, the best picture of religious life in Srebrenica. It shows how Bosniaks in the most difficult of the circumstances in this UN’s safe haven are determined to preserve their faith and tradition.

This essay analyzes the lives and works of two distinguished women scientists in the 20th century, Dorothy Hodgkin and Rosalind Franklin. Their work and the work of their other female colleagues show that female scientists are present in large numbers in sciences that deal with living beings. The evidence for that is the number of the most important prizes and awards that female scientists received for their work in the fields of molecular biology, physiology, and medicine in general. This essay, therefore, analyzes scientifc discoveries made by Dorothy Hodgkin, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for her determinations of the structures of important biochemical substances by X-ray techniques, and Rosalind Franklin, whose participation in and contribution to the discovery of the so-called secret of life, the DNA structure, was not offcially and adequately recognized.

Persons that have participated in military activities in the war in Croatia and that have, due to injuries inflicted during military actions, lost their vision are at greater risk of having posttraumatic stress dissorder (PTSD).These persons can develop the PTSD as a reaction to traumatic military events that happened at the battle field but also, as a reaction to the sight loss. Therefore assumption is that some of the persons that have been in the military actions and have lost their sight due to injuries inflicted during the war will develop PTSD simptoms. The questionaire LASC-01 has been used for assessing posttraumatic stress dissorder in blind invalids of Croatia war. This instrument is valid for determining simptoms of PTSD but also for determining presence of other additional simptoms which are common for this disorder. The sample in this research is 28 blind invalids of the war in Croatia and the results have shown that the PTSD dissorder was present in 39,28 % of persons in this research. Some persons (that in the sample of this research) have shown more intensive reactions in some (areas) simptoms of dissorder, for example - higher agitation . It has been determined that the witnessing traumatic military actions at the war field is more responsible for PTSD development than vision loss itself. Results have shown that there is significant correlation of frequence and intensity of witnessing traumatic military action and simptoms of the dissorder (if the frequence and intensity was higher - the simptoms were stronger). Some simptoms that are additional to posttraumatic stress disorder have been present: such as: sleeping problems, anxiety, hostile feelings, agitation, memory difficulties and depression.

In the Hijri year of 1266 (1850/51) a population census was organized in the eyalet of Bosnia, where the quarters of the small town (kasaba) Gračanica were recorded as well. This article publishes the part of the census which refers to the Čiriš quarter, one of the about fifteen quarters of Gračanica. 38 houses were recorded in this census, along with the names of the owners and the male members of these families. The most numerous family according to this census was the Šabić family (11 houses), followed by the family Sakalaš (4 houses), Ramaš (3 houses), Kakeš (3 houses), Ćehajić (2 houses), and fifteen other families represented by one house each. This census brings a wealth of new, hitherto unknown data on the population of this quarter and can be seen as a very valuable source for future genealogical, anthropogeographic and historiographical research.

The theme of this paper is the activism of religious actors at the European Union level, in the context of the European Parliament elections held on 5 May 2019. It presents the documents of the Commission of Bishops Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC), published on the occasion of the said elections. These are “Rebuilding Community in Europe” of COMECE and “Europe: It’s Our Future” of CEC, in which two leading Union-level religious actors presented their views on the European elections and its relevance to the future of the European continent. These documents and through them COMECE and CEC are taken as a case study for political activism of religious actors and viewed in the light of the principle of participatory democracy, which crossed with the principle of representative democracy precisely in the elections for the European Parliament.
