The object of research of this article are the deverbal nouns expressing actions and results of actions and the names of qualities in the Ahtar's Tsarstvenik written in 1844. The aim of the work is to make a lexical and word-formation analysis of these names. The dialectal and traditional Slavic nouns are classifed by word-forming models. The borrowings with abstract meaning are presented according to their origin. Conclusions are made on the ratio between dialectal and literary (traditional) lexis in the manuscript.

The present article is an attempt to apply the Theory of Conceptual Metaphor to the analysis of idiomatic phraseological units of the Romanian language. We have already established that most of the idioms reflect in their form some cultural and historical information that is known to the native bearers of the Romanian language. At the same time, we believe that there is a group of idioms that can be analysed taking into account the conceptual metaphor that is of a universal nature. To this end, we shall make a distinction between the individual and conceptual metaphors and will apply the conceptual metaphor “mind is a container” to the Romanian phraseology, providing a linguocultural analysis of the idiom.

The emphasis of the paper is on the linguistic analysis of fragments from the novel Grička vještica written by Marija Jurić Zagorka. The paper objective is to answer how much linguistic craftsmanship defined this novel, and thus the literary work of Zagorka in general. It has been shown how language and literature in Zagorka’s writing intertwine. The language of the novel was analysed by extracting concrete fragments in which the lexics, stylistic figures and additional features of Zagorka’s style of writing were analysed. We researched how much attention was given to the language in building the plot. The arising question is how justified the position of Zagorka outside the literary canon is if her writing style does not differ significantly from the writers who are included in the canon.

The aim of the paper is to indicate the status of the peripheral representation of verb-nominal collocations in Croatian monolingual dictionaries. After the analysis, it is evident that dictionaries and language portals do not record collocations as separate lexicographic units. Collocations appear only in the entries of individual lexemes that form a particular collocation, which is also not consistent, as there is no systematically implemented rule as to whether collocation should be listed next to the collocator or collocate. The absence of certain rules for recording collocations is a problem for people learning Croatian as a foreign language and for translators who need to quickly find the meaning of the required language problem. The problem of recording collocations can be solved by publishing a collocation dictionary of the Croatian language in digital or printed form.

The development of bilingual dictionaries is a very complex activity that highlights three areas of expertise: lexicography, terminology and translation. This category of dictionaries requires command of the general language and more. An in-depth knowledge of the terms (surnames) is, within the field of terminology, a real link between lexicography and translation. A lexicographic only analysis can cause translation errors in the construction of this tool. That is why synergy between these three levels of competence remains a prerequisite. Translation is therefore a necessity for the development of bilingual dictionaries.

The article proposes a comparative view over the treatment applied to Romanian cuisine terms in two translations of a book by Radu Anton Roman, journalist and writer fond of gastronomy. Marily le Nïr and Alistair Ian Blyth used sometimes similar, sometimes different means to render the names of dishes, ingredients, tools, measure units or Romanian traditions. Their work is successful, but the connotations of some words prove that absolute equivalence of terms remains illusory.

The development of science and technology has obviously led to the development of translation in these areas. The translation of technical documentation, user manuals, product catalogues, and even of tutorials has become an essential element in maintaining business contacts between foreign companies, concluding collaborative agreements and in their international activity. Therefore, the aim of this paper focuses on studying this type of specialized translation and on identifying the difficulties and challenges that the translator encounters, as a rule, in the process of translation. Translation as a process is, in fact, a linguistic activity that involves the creation of a new text in the target language and which according to Bell, must preserve the style and content of the original text, i.e. of the text from the source language [1, p.30]. As far as the technical-scientific translation is concerned, it is important to render correctly the linguistic material because errors can cause difficulties in working with documents or equipment.

Empirical research of the grammar of spoken language shows often that the grammatical concepts of the written language, can be applied only in a limited manner to the analysis of linguistic phenomena of spoken language. The present empirical study is focusing on the usage of filler words in the spoken German and Bosnian language. By examining filler words from the talk shows broadcasted by the German public broadcaster ZDF and the public broadcasting service of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the current research sought to clarify the formal features and interactive functions of these linguistic elements. In addition, the analysis shows which filler words can be used and in which of those two languages they are being used more frequently. This paper will be concluded with a presentation of the results followed by an explanation of key findings.

Diminutives are grammatical diminutive forms of nouns (Latin deminuere – reduce, lessen). In both languages there are diminutive suffixes used for diminutive forms: in German -chen and -lein, in Bosnian: -(a)k, -ance, -ašce, -ca, -ce, -čić, -čica, -ica and some other suffixes. Moreover, diminutives are often used to denote that something is cute: Hund – Hündchen, pas – psić, etc. However, in this article attention is paid to fixed diminutive forms, i.e. word forms that are lexicalized as such. These are expressions such as Kaninchen, Maskottchen, Schnäppchen, Mädchen, Veilchen, etc. It is often mentioned in the literature that diminutive formations are much more widespread in Slavic languages than in Germanic languages. This fact is examined here using the example of body part terms in both languages. It is assumed that in Bosnian, etymologically, there are many diminutives (potkoljenica, jagodica, materica, etc.), while in German the diminutives are much less common in the corpus (Zäpfchen).

Hotspots are speech acts and sequences typical for a language and culture and hotwords are words typical for a language and culture. This paper examines hotspots and hotwords in stories about Mostar by Hamza Humo and their equivalents in Gero Fischer's translation to German. It was assumed that the chosen correspondences are sometimes inappropriate and that sometimes it is better, as the translator did, to keep the original lexeme in the translation. Hotspots and hotwords were initially selected intuitively in this study. The individual lexemes were examined with the help of the dictionaries, of a survey with students at the University of Sarajevo and with German teachers and of wordles by Duden online and DWDS. Emphasis was placed on whether the correspondences on the denotative as well as on the connotative level coincide. The individual hypotheses could be confirmed.
