The various structural changes in the economy at the beginning of the transition to a market economy, adversely affected the defin-ing of vocational training needs, and the reduced financial resources for the development of education led to a decrease in the educational and professional qualification level of the labor forces. This necessitates the need for further training in the form of formal and informal education.

The crisis in the eurozone began in 2010 and continues to melt even after 2010, and although the EU imposed measures to be taken in threatened states, the exit from the crises has been filled with uncertainty. The EU has called for anti-crisis policies, especially in southern European countries, where austerity policies have been imposed that have led to rising118unemployment, declining the real wages, reducing the social security system and privatizing the public property.The paper aims to analyze these austerity policies in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain, known as the GIPS countries in the field of the remuneration, the pensions and the privatization policy, and to outline the possible effects of these policies on the development of the European social model. Data from Eurostat and the European Commission have been used.

Social economy concepts permanently enrich their content characteristics on the basis of dynamic processes in the modern economy,133analyzed as science and practice. They refer to specific sectoral resources based on the philosophy of equitable distribution of social and material achievements, income, wealth, etc., as well as the specifics of its subjects - inclusive social enterprises and organizations. It is the subjects of the social economy that need to set its "agenda", the policies of sustainable development and production of goods, a culture of production and consumption, with an impact on the human factor.In summary, the development addresses the new social needs of the human factor, for which there is no analogue in the traditional economic sector and, above all, the contribution of education in the process of its renewal and perspectives for improvement.

AN MCDM APPROACH TO TOURISM PROJECTS EVALUATION: THE UPPER DANUBE BASIN CASE

Essentially, this paper intends to emphasize the applicability of MCDM methods, i.e. the recently introduced Extended Pivot Pairwise Relative Criteria Importance Assessment (PIPRECIA-E), in the field of tourism projects evaluation. The usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a real case study involving the evaluation of projects pointed at the development of the tourism of the Upper Danube Basin. The performed assessment that has generated quite reliable results contains an estimation of the four alternative projects against the four principal criteria and the 21 sub-criteria.

Renewable Energy Financing during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Obstacles and Solutions

The renewable energy industry, whose global market size was estimated at US$ 1030,95 billion in 2022, faced numerous obstacles including financing issues ranking at the top during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the importance of the topic, this study addresses these obstacles as well as potential solutions to financing renewable energy during the COVID-19 outbreak. The study discusses that economic uncertainty, disruption of supply chains, reduced investor confidence, reduced demand for energy, and policy changes are among the major problems in renewable energy financing during the outbreak. The study also proposes global solutions in order to provide policy stability and a predictable policy environment.

How COVID-19 Pandemic has Impacted the Supply Chain in the Electronics Industry

For many decades, a relatively stable supply chain has endured for global industries. The Thailand floods, Japan’s Tsunami leading to a nuclear plant leak in 2011, and Iceland’s volcano eruption in the same year severely disrupted the global supply chain with the electronics manufacturing companies, but only for a short period of time. These natural disasters were confined to certain geographical sectors and the operational interruptions were short-lived. The COVID-19 pandemic has, however, presented companies with a radical set of challenges that will require a transformational shift in the supply chain strategy and operations management for all industries. By associating the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) theoretical framework with the global supply chain challenges experienced in the COVID-19 pandemic, research hypotheses regarding future supply chain strategies for the electronics and semi-conductor industry players were developed and tested. Sample data was gathered with industry practitioners utilizing a convenience sampling. The results demonstrate that industry practitioners, research institutions, and the Biden administration have touted the need to re-shore manufacturing and reduce dependency on foreign countries. Outsourcing decisions justified through a cost-benefit-risk analysis must constantly be applied. Just-In-Time (JIT) and Lean, a prevalent strategy, has turned into an Achilles heel during the COVID-19 pandemic times. The trade-off analysis to maintain a safety stock of critical components has become an essential variable for decision-making. Single-sourcing is abhorred, while multiple-sourcing supported by increased data visibility with effective ERP systems has become a strategic imperative. Partnerships with vendors, suppliers, logistics providers, and all stakeholders must be strengthened and continuously enhanced in the VUCA supply chain for the years to come. The primary takeaway from the research is that top management and supply chain leaders must focus their efforts on building an agile and resilient global supply chain network as the days of relying on offshore manufacturing and an absolute JIT and Lean strategy is behind us.

MARKETING INFLUENCE OF TOURISTIC AIRBNB APPLICATION ON VACATION RENTAL MARKET IN LONDON, PARIS, BERLIN, ROME AND AMSTERDAM

The research aimed to inspect the hypotheses that there is an influence of the Airbnb application on the vacation rental property market and covered the analysing of the hypotheses that there is a significant impact of the Airbnb application on the market of real estate rentals covering the analysis of renting properties in some of the most attractive touristic destinations in Europe- London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Amsterdam. Conducted research led to a conclusion that the Airbnb application contributed to tourism growth in a bit remote and neglected parts of reviewed cities, enhanced entrepreneurial spirit of the locals together with their migration from urban centres towards further, more serene city dwellings. The base hypothesis that the Airbnb application has a significant effect on the real estate market shift affecting price formation of short-term rentals whether private or hotel accommodation, along with longer term tenancy is conclusive.

TOURISM PROVIDERS, ACHIEVEMENT, CULTURE AND JOB SATISFACTION IN SERBIA

This paper aims to investigate the relationships between GLOBE national culture dimensions, the facets of job satisfaction and the need for achievement relation in Serbian tourism providers. The sample consists of 120 managers in the Serbian service sector/tourism providers in Serbia (transportation, utility companies, telecommunications, and banks). The results obtained proved that national culture dimensions are significant predictors of all facets of job satisfaction and that the relations between some organizational culture dimensions and the facets of job satisfaction are moderated by the need for achievement variable. Our results may be of interest to human resources managers in the Serbian tourism service providers.

Based on the specifics of the selected service sectors - hospitality and public, it is clear that the role of leaders significantly varies. Antecedents for achieving organizational and individual goals include a quality relationship between leaders and followers (supervisors and subordinates), making it possible for an organization to be functional and successful and employees satisfied at work. Although the concept of leadership is as old as human civilization, numerous multi-annual researches and thousands of studies have not yielded with a clear idea of what the leadership is and how best the organizational and individual goals could be achieved. Age-Dependent Discounting and the Role of Imagination

Discounting is a hallmark in economic theory and practice. Discounting future value of options determines human behavior and market pricing. Behavioral economics adds information about human discounting peculiarities, such as the present bias and hyperbolic discounting. An ample account of discounting research finds people focus on the present more than on the past and the future. Hyperbolic discounting describes the discounting function as hyperbola around the present moment. This tendency to overvalue the current now has been found to hold for human beings with applications to many domains. For looking back at previous times, the present bias helps cope with loss and sorrow. For planning the future, the present bias and hyperbolic discounting though are often found to lead to suboptimal choices over time. This paper presents evidence that human discounting varies by age. Data is presented about time perception of time use over time, which shows a varying pattern for different age groups. The paper then brings forward the need for further research on age-dependent discounting and discusses the role of imagination and changing one’s time perspective throughout life. Elder people are assumed to live more in the past and thinking about future generations, hence a lower present bias is speculated to be present in elders.

The Doors that ‘April Opened’: Higher Education in Social Work in Portugal at the ISMT in Coimbra

The “Carnation Revolution” opened up Portugal to the world and 'invaded' the Schools of Social Work with an impact on the training of Portuguese Social Work (PSW) and Miguel Torga Institute of Higher Education (ISMT), allowing them to conquer academic and professional fields. This paper conducts a socio-historical analysis of training based on documents from the ISMT Archives and interviews with key personalities. It explores three significant periods that mark the evolution of training in PSW at ISMT in Coimbra: 1) 1974 to 1990: during this period, the secularization of training took place, education was democratized, and students gained social rights while participating in struggles for their training and profession; 2) the 1990s: this period highlighted the recognition of the degree, which aled to the development of postgraduate training and research, expanding career opportunities and professional fields; 3) Post Bologna Process: this section addresses the changes imposed by the Bologna Process, which reduced the duration of training from five to four years in 2004 and further to seven semesters in 2007, resulting in substantial changes for training and the profession.

IMPACTS OF MACROECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS ON INCOME INEQUALITY IN EU

On the background of strengthening the relationships between the EU countries and of the increasing concerns regarding the equilibrate development of the society both in each EU country and overall, in the entire EU, a very significant subject of debate remains diminishing the income inequality. However, in order to find solutions for this issue, it is mandatory to understand first what drives such inequality. This is why the paper aims to analyze the impact of some important macroeconomic and social determinants, such as GDP, gross capital formation, labor force participation, control of corruption etc. on income inequality in EU countries, during the period between 2004 and 2020. Our analysis leads to conclusions regarding the main drivers of inequality and creates premises also for implementing solutions in order to correct this phenomenon.

The principal-agent problem is commonly encountered in social theory for transactions carried out by an agent of principal entity. The principal-agent problem refers to the misalignment between the principal’s maximization goals and the agent’s maximization goals in a transaction involving agency. Humanitarian aid is often carried out by intermediaries or agents, as donors’ direct assistance to those in need would be costly and technically difficult. For donors, which are the principals of humanitarian aid action, the subject, timing, place, and quality of the aid are crucial for utility maximization. For example, as a reflection of the principal-agent problem, the airport syndrome refers to the delivery of aid in a way that is easy to reach (low cost) but does not coincide with the donor’s objectives in terms of the location of the aid. Therefore, it is important to examine humanitarian aid activities in the context of the principal-agent problem in order to prevent the amount of donations from shrinking. In this context, this study explains principal-agent problems that may arise in humanitarian aid activities and discusses possible consequences. The study findings and recommendations will be useful in minimizing the problems encountered in humanitarian aid activities and will play a role in preventing potential contractions in the humanitarian aid sectors.
