For a long time, there was the belief in archival theory and practice that it is enough to access archival records on the basis of provenance, and not on the basis of more detailed description of archival records and defining the subject headings and descriptors. Such a belief stems from the fact that the archives store extremely large quantities of archival records, which prevents the detailed description of preserved archival records on the level of item as well as the creation of subject headings. Determining of subject headings stems from the needs of users in order to be able to search for archival material in terms of content, and not just on the basis of provenance, as it presents a big problem for users. In the article, the author will discuss the previous experience in the construction of systems for the content description in the archives, and will present some possible solutions in the mentioned field.

The archives of coal mines are diverse and regardless of their state of preservation the content of the material, its physical preservation, the time range of the creator’s existence, the time range of the material creation and the documentary entities can be determined from this archival material. On the other hand, the information that cannot be obtained from the material is easily supplemented with information from other sources, such as District People’s Committees as well as official gazettes. The coal mines in Mursko Središce in Medimurje and in Koprivnica are interesting because they were coal mines of national importance along with few others. Unfortunately, their archives are very poorly explored, although the coal mines were very important for the development of state, republic and local industry. Their archives can serve as a valuable source of information to researchers of various scientific disciplines, whether they are historians investigating e.g. economic, local or everyday history, or whether they are geographers dealing with geology, geomorphology, industrial geography, social geography. The material can also serve as a valuable source of information to researchers who explore population migration and to researchers interested in environmental issues, mining and geologic engineering. Besides, it can be used for research in socio-humanities such as anthropology, ethnology, sociology, economics, etc., but also in applied sciences (mechanical and civil engineering, geodesy ...). Although coal exploitation was a very important branch of mining in the period from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the second half of the 20th century, the coal from the mines is not used as an energy source any more, which might be the reason why local history researchers avoid choosing a topic that is not current any more.

This work is based on the museological classification of the saddle collection of the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest. The collection consists of cca 150 saddles, two-thirds of which comes from Hungarian speaking areas, one third from Northern Africa, Asia and Finland. The author describes the development of saddles and their different types by analyzing the objects and professional literature. Making and ornamenting saddles, harnesses and equipments of the saddles for different purposes are described here. The most famous Hungarian saddle making center and the most widespread Hungarian type, the Tiszafüred type are highlighted. Cultural history of this Eastern heritage from the ancient history of Hungarians up to the present is presented. It also refers to the significant traditions of Hungarian riding culture (Hungarian hussar) and to the new areasand possibilities of current saddle usage (sport, tourism, recreation).

Due to the size of the Internet and the multitude of traditional and new genres there has been an increasing interest in automatic genre classification. Labelling texts in natural language processing is essential because this allows us to select more appropriate language models for the analysis. The aim of the article is to describe and present the results of automatically classifying Estonian Web 2013 texts. We evalued the quality of different classification models on our training and manually labelled test set. Most of the research on automatic classification has focused on classifying multiple genres, while our objective was to do a binary classification. We set out to classify Estonian Web 2013 texts based on whether they are canonical or not. For training we used the Balanced Corpus to represent canonical language and the New Media Corpus to represent non-canonical language. Due to the non-availability of a binary labelled subcorpus of Estonian Web 2013 texts, we compiled it ourselves by manually labelling it. For classification we used different supervised machine learning algorithms and for features a simple Bag of Words method. The results obtained from the preliminary experiments show that neural networks outperformed other machine learning algorithms achieving over 0.7 on accuracy. The overall results of this study indicate that in order to increase the accuracy of the classifiers, new features should be added (e.g POS count, sentences per paragraph, words per sentence, uppercase and lowercase letters per sentence etc.). Our best model, the neural network classifier, achieved an accuracy of 0.99 on a training set but only a little over 0.74 on the test set. This suggests that future work requiers a bigger and more appropriate training set. The manually labelling task showed us that the transition from canonical to non-canonical is very smooth. Current models produce a score between 0 and 1, defining if the item belongs to a class or not. Therefore, the classification models must be programmed to be more predictive so that the predictions can be tuned by selecting a threshold.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics and Records, which represented the central institution of the Yugoslav statistical system, was founded in 1951. In 1956 the word “Records” was removed from the name of this institution and the Bureau received a name that lasted until 2006. The Federal Bureau of Statistics (hereinafter: the Bureau) was an organization that performed statistical affairs of interest for the whole country. The task of the statistical service was to ensure the collecting, processing and publishing of statistical research results. These jobs are determined by the program of statistical surveys adopted by the SFRY Assembly, on the basis of the proposal of the Federal Executive Council. The Bureau and other authorized bodies, each for its field, as the statistical services of the Federation, elaborated the contents of individual research, defining the methodology, bringing standards (definitions, classifications, nomenclatures, etc.), publishing data and performing other tasks that contributed to the improvement of the profession and services. From these activities and extensive functions of the Bureau, extensive archival material of the Federal Bureau of Statistics was produced for the period from 1945 to 2006, in the amount of 2,500 length meters.

The paper presents data on conditions in which archival material is preserved and protected in the State Archive of the Republic of Macedonia. It is indisputable that the care and protection of archive material is a priority and indispensable task for every society and every archive. From this aspect, one of the basic tasks of the archive is archive material that is located in archives in order to protect itself from destruction and damage, and within the limits of objective possibilities. The fact is that certain omissions and inconsistencies are prolonged for a long time. Obviously, it is easiest to write on paper the rules of the game, but often in practice these rules are not enforced. Archival material will be adequately protected if the employees and archives as competent institutions for the protection of archival material take all the necessary measures in accordance with the legal regulations.

Work unit (further in the text RJ) Vjesnik d.d., Vjesnik’s Newspaper Documentation (further in the text VND) started the process of digitization of newspaper articles in 2004. The VND was a documentation center for organizing collecting, selecting, processing and storing materials in an electronic database. Journalists’ requests and queries that were the largest users of such media bases have created a selection of methodological approaches for searching and sorting documents (newspaper articles) in response to requests for specific content. Journal articles were grouped according to areas of knowledge in in alphabetical order in Croatian language: Society / Healthcare / Social Care, Ecology, Economy / Economy, Finance, Croatia Foreign Policy / World / International Relations, Communications / Media, Culture and Art, Education, Religion, Sport, Judiciary / Crime, Internal Politics, Science and Public. For each area of knowledge, thesaurus was created according to the key words of journalist queries that were arranged by documentaries. News articles were programmatically cut, technically edited, equipped with metadata, and stored in a database of documentary preparation. In the light of the European attempt to create a digital single market for online content, Bulgarians continue to use torrent platforms to access and download cultural content without any legal and economic consequences. The proposed paper attempts to answer the question whether the so called ‘copyright wars’ between big economics entities in content industries and pirate platforms appear to finish in favour of marginal consumers or those who prefer to share and download online cultural content freely through peer-to-peer techniques. The paper focuses on the realities in Bulgarian society concerning the unregulated and illegal access to online content in vast quantities and the lack of adequate response from the national authorities for restoring the power balance and protecting the authors. In order to explore the contemporary situation, firstly, the paper will examine the changes in legislation and public debate on copyright and online access to cultural content in Bulgaria. Secondly, the nature of the most popular torrent websites will be critically viewed. The online research is supplemented by empirical data, gained by questionnaires, in which are investigated the motives and reasons of ordinary consumers to access and download digitally stored cultural content from torrent websites. In the conclusion, the collected materials and data will be analysed and I will outline the main challenges in the field of copyright protection of online content.

The purpose of this paper is to better understand the activity of Antti Amattus Aarne, a representative of the Finnish historico-geographic school of folklore. On one hand, the Finnish researcher has created a system for analysis and clasification of fairy tales. On the other hand, the Transylvanian German ethnologist Adolf Schullerus said that not all the Romanian fairy tales fit into the framework of Aarne's classification. Taking all these into consideration, one of this research’s goals is to analyze the differences, as well as the similarities of the Romanian texts regarding the Antti Aarne's system.
