Archives and single documents of permanent value, created by citizens and families, given the importance of them, occupy an important place in the overall archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is evidenced by dozens of extremely valuable and important, but also frequently used personal and family collections, downloaded and stored in archives in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Same represent significant historical sources, essential for research and understanding of certain historical processes, events, people and phenomena, the narrower or wider area. However, in order that those collections were made functional, concerned primarily archival should be valorized, protected, expertly handled in the archives, it would eventually be made available to researchers and users. It is not only formal enforcement, more substantial action in the profession of legal jurisdiction. Therefore archival service of Bosnia and Herzegovina must clearly and unambiguously point out these facts, and determine a strategy of action, in order to thwart the activities of other institutions and individuals, who under the law, perform obtain of archival. Therefore, archives and archivists must further engage in order to obtain archival of individuals and families within the law, or by the archives. Only in this way will be subject archival expertly and professionally cared for, handled professionally and technologically protected. This will ensure their long-term protection, but also putting them into operation for customers, which is the ultimate goal of every archive.
