There is a focus on green inflation and wage gap inflation, the rise of which is debated as to the effect on inflation. Conclusions are systematized about the relationship between modern inflation and economic security as a factor determining the sustainability of inflation, and problems and perspectives in the European context are outlined.

- Summary/Abstract:The empirical study aims to verify the existence of a relationship between the extreme volatility dynamics of Bitcoin and the business application of blockchain technology. If the extreme amplitudes of volatility fluctuations of the most representative cryptocurrency are related to the performance of the business application of blockchain technology, then the characteristics of Bitcoin volatility and that of the stocks of companies actively applying blockchain technology in their business model should be similar. In order to investigate these characteristics, the assumptions of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis are used and the measurement of market efficiency and the magnitude of impact of market shocks are carried out. Examining the volatility characteristics of Bitcoin and the 16 companies studied showed not only significant differences, but also opposite characteristics, both in terms of market efficiency and how market (shock) impulses are reflected. These empirical results give us a reason to reject the possibility of determining the existence of extreme volatility of Bitcoin with the results of the practical application of blockchain technology in a business environment and put the emphasis on the role of market psychology and the rationality of investment expectations as a significant factor in the dynamics of Bitcoin volatility.

- Summary/Abstract:Over the past almost two decades, expansionary monetary policy has been increasingly used both during and after the onset of crises of various natures. Although, according to the theory, in the long term the use of monetary policy instruments does not lead to stimulating the economy and increasing growth, the countries in the EU, and more specifically in the Euro area, have systematically implemented a growth-stimulating monetary policy after 2008. Through the prism of cointegration analysis, the study reveals whether there is a long-run relationship between economic growth and money supply and/or whether such a relationship exists between money supply and inflation.

- Summary/Abstract:Sustainable finance as a key area continues to gain momentum as governments and corporate issuers pay increasing attention to environmental, social and governance factors, and investors, regulators and other stakeholders encourage more robust ESG practices. Interest in sustainable finance accelerated in 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting the need for funds to help economies, businesses and people recover in a responsible way that addresses environmental and social challenges. The report is structured in three parts: a literature review exploring the success factors, benefits and challenges of issuing green bonds as identified by researchers in different countries; then we use the methodological potential of the analyzed area to formulate expert research; and we summarize the results of the study and suggestions for its further development. The results show that the issuer’s reputation, good credit rating and environmental, social and governance performance are key considerations for the success of issuing green bonds. The main benefits of green bonds are that they carry low investment risk with the ability to raise large investment amounts while providing quantifiable visible benefits. While the challenges related to the issuance of green bonds include greenwashing, the questionable role of the green bond market in environmental protection, and insufficient financial and economic benefits of issuance.

For example, in cases of business reorganization, in a period of financial difficulties, including bankruptcy, in a period of inflation, etc. One of the most important economic problems that management constantly faces is price. The problems arising when working with prices are multifaceted. In this respect, the variety of prices, different pricing schemes and their constant change should be taken into account. The last aspect is the most relevant, since the tendency for their increase is observed practically continuously in all countries. Unlike many other economic categories, inflation has not only a theoretical, but also a purely utilitarian meaning. The focus of this report is on some key issues facing businesses in volatile price environments and approaches to dealing with them.

- Summary/Abstract:The publication is a continuation of the article "Application of Fractal Geometry in Studies of the Bulgarian Financial Market", included in issue 2 of 2023 of the "Economic and Social Alternatives" journal. In this study, the main concepts resulting from the application of fractal geometry aimed at describing the dynamics of financial markets and in particular, the main Bulgarian stock market index SOFIX, were demonstrated. The current study builds on the application of fractal analysis in the field of the Bulgarian financial market and for this purpose one of the leading fractal models is presented – the continuous binomial Markov Switching Multifractal Model. A diagnostic comparative analysis of the ability to fit the real data between the selected fractal model and a control group of leading econometric models from the family of the autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity was made. In conclusion, a simulated reconstruction of the returns of price trajectories produced by the multifractal model was performed, and it can be clearly seen that the simulated returns mimic extremely accurately the real observed data and risk profile of the index.

- Summary/Abstract:In both a global and local context, negative processes influenced by the impending economic crisis have been observed over the past two years. Governments, in their efforts to curb these processes, are approving increasingly larger budgets to provide essential social benefits to society in the fight against the crisis. The measures outlined in these budgets, in most cases, cannot be covered by the available funds in the state treasury. To achieve their goals, the state needs resources, and these resources are generated in the form of tax revenues in the budget. Taxes are a significant source of revenue for any government and are inevitably at the core of the state's wellbeing. They are an instrument used by the government to fund public expenditures and implement fiscal policy. For taxpayers, on the other hand, this process is viewed as a burden they must bear to support the government. In Bulgaria, tax collection is often based on the principle of 'selfassessment' by the taxpayers. To regulate this process, the tax administration periodically conducts 'tax audits'. However, tax audits can be conducted not only by the tax administration. This report aims to outline the characteristic features of tax audits and determine their impact on tax collection in the budget.

- Summary/Abstract:Improvisation and creativity are two soft skills becoming increasingly significant for remaining competitive in the global business landscape going through dramatic changes. Shifts in consumer needs, evolving market structure, the emergence and development of innovative sectors, and high technologies require business strategies and business models to be built or changed more rapidly than ever. Why are they in the focus of researchers and practitioners? First, improvisation as a skill proves vital in finding new ways to implement business strategies and to fulfill customer needs during global pandemics and regional instability, restrictions, and disruptions in the global supply chains. This is even more valid in the post-pandemic world, where the speedy development of artificial intelligence poses new challenges and opportunities for entire industries. Second, creativity that goes hand in hand with breakthrough innovation helps pioneers in emerging and evolving market sectors navigate the pathway to success by crafting innovative strategies and disruptive business models. Therefore, this paper aims to study the role of improvisation and creativity in contemporary entrepreneurship as significant and increasingly important determinants of competitive performance globally.

The use of new technologies paves the way for the production of new cheaper goods and for the accumulation of capital and, in this case, for increased international competitiveness of individual countries. The role of entrepreneurs is to contribute to innovation, higher competition and wider economic dynamism. A number of empirical evidences point to the importance of distinguishing the role of entrepreneurship in strong and underdeveloped countries. In other words, in developing economies where production is relatively high, entrepreneurship is found to be positively related to economic growth.

- Summary/Abstract:Climate change has posed new challenges for central banks, regulators and supervisors. As a result, environmental, social and governance standards are becoming increasingly key to the reputation of banks. In the growing environment of challenges facing commercial banks – digitalisation, new competitors, variable interest rates, regulation and more – it is unacceptable to downplay environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues when it comes to the need for largescale transformation. Until recently, ESG departments existed as divisions that were not deeply connected to the bank's overall strategy, customer and product offerings, or incentive schemes. The reasons for embedding ESG standards and practices in all functions stem from a broader transformation project and to involve everyone from the senior executives (C-suite) to the local bank branch. ESG is a central driver for the radical, end-to-end transformation required of European banks and an important key challenge they need to address alongside credit, costs, consolidation and technology. ESG is positioned as the new litmus of good banking practice based on three converging trends. The first is climate change and the need to finance the decarbonisation of economic activities, which promises to open up new areas of activity for banks. The second is reputational, where banks and businesses that fail to meet their ESG commitments risk being accused of greenwashing. The third is regulation that will require banks to measure and disclose ESG risks in their loan portfolios and other banking activities, as well as the impact of their activities across a wider range of environmental, social and governance considerations. As a consequence of these reasons, ESG standards are expected to be crucial for the reputation of banks. In the coming years, banks that have a lead in this process will be more competitive and will gain reputational advantages over their competitors. Green (ESG) marketing and digital transformation are two important trends in the commercial banking sector that reflect the growing emphasis on sustainability, environmental responsibility and the adoption of digital technologies. Let's explore how these two aspects intersect: This article presents the reasons, nature, benefits and possible downsides of the impact of green marketing on financial institutions, as well as the importance of the digital transition and ESG standards for the well-being of the economy's foundational sector.

- Keywords:tax system; tax revenue; Bulgarian tax
- Summary/Abstract:Bulgaria’s tax system, comprising state and local levels, encompasses various taxes like income tax, social security contributions, corporate taxes, and value-added tax. Administered by the National Revenue Agency, state taxes are fundamental, while municipal councils regulate local tax rates. In 2008, Bulgaria transitioned to a flat tax system, replacing the progressive tax with a 10% income tax. Taxation of foreign individuals hinges on residence and interests, and local taxes, including real estate tax and succession tax, contribute to the municipal budget under the Local Taxes and Fees Act. The Value Added Tax (VAT) system, regulated by the Value Added Tax Act, applies to an array of goods and services. VAT registration can be compulsory, voluntary, or initiated by revenue administration. It is applicable to goods, services, intra-European Union acquisitions, and imports. The standard VAT rate is 20%, while accommodation services are taxed at 9%. An analysis of tax revenues as a percentage of Bulgaria's GDP from 2010 to 2020 reveals consistent growth, primarily driven by economic expansion. However, the heavy reliance on indirect taxes, particularly VAT, raises concerns about revenue stability. Recent changes, including increased allowances for families with children and temporary VAT rate reductions during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflect attempts to address socio-economic challenges. Several solutions are proposed to enhance the Bulgarian tax system, encompassing changes such as increasing individual income tax, implementing a progressive tax structure, raising corporate taxes, reducing VAT rates, or combining these adjustments. A suggested approach focuses on a moderate increase in individual income tax from 10% to 15% to achieve a balanced tax system, with potential worker demotivation addressed through transparent government spending and commitments to improved social welfare.

- Summary/Abstract:One of the main objectives of fiscal policy is conducting optimal income taxation, because it has a central role in achievement of social justice and welfare. Income taxation influences the levels of employment and investment or affect the choices of individuals concerning their productivity at work. In the paper are presented the main theoretical models for income taxation. Crucial for income taxation policies is also tax calculation. Following the Criterion of Haig and Simons in tax estimation should be included all sources of income or so-called income from economic use of production factors, minus costs incurred for their acquisition. The tax liability is calculated as multiplication of tax income and tax rate. For determining tax rate some important moments must be considered, depending also on the taxation model conducted, amounts and tax group boundaries, the non-taxable minimum, the margin, upper tax rate, the public attitudes, the total tax amount to collect as budget revenues. From 2008, according to Personal Income Tax Law taxation system in Bulgaria has been introduced proportional taxation with 10% tax rate. The main objective of flat income taxation in Bulgaria is to help reduce the share of the informal (shadow) economy, leading to increase in tax revenues. At the paper are analyzed four main aspects of taxation influence to the whole economy: inequalities; revenues from direct taxes; the shadow economy and the investment activity. Implementing proportional taxation in Bulgaria had many objectives to achieve. Experts analyses in details the results from taxation in economic life. They suggest new models, which could work more efficiently in Bulgaria. The responsible politicians however are more influenced by lobbies and do not consider future taxation reforms.

- Summary/Abstract:Education is believed to be the most important factor for achieving sustainable economic development, which underlines the significance of market mechanisms fundamental for financing higher education. The subsidy of the higher education in state universities in Bulgaria is provided as a compensation given by the society in advance for the future benefits expected by the students. However, the current model of financing has resulted in a surplus of specialists in some areas and shortage of such in others. It is also crucial to consider the inefficiency arising from the fact the majority of people who benefit from the subsidies, and who after graduation decide to leave the country, or to work something completely different from the field of the specialty acquired. Within the context of Bulgaria's susceptibility to flood-related risks, this study evaluates the existing model designed for mitigating post-event damages. The effectiveness of this model is examined through the case study of the 2022 Karlovo area flood. In proposing methods for enhanced risk management, three distinct tools are introduced: the promotion of voluntary insurance, the allocation of a specific budget line item for natural hazard damages, and the establishment of a catastrophic insurance pool. To assess the viability of these approaches, a comparative analysis is conducted, drawing parallels with the catastrophic insurance pool in Romania.

- Summary/Abstract:Following the popularization and rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) since the previous year via its most well-known manifestation via ChatGPT, a growing number of companies in Europe and around the world have started to heavily utilize AI in their daily operations. The impact of its penetration and deployment has led to changes in the job market. Now the public opinion has changed and many workers have started to worry about their jobs. In this article, we briefly examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, considering the current state and future trends. This study is a literature review and explores the impact of AI in the European Union, but also on a global scale. The limitations are related to the fact that it is not a comprehensive research and only takes into account a few of the main factors related to the rise of AI. From the available information, general conclusions will be drawn about the impact of AI on the labor market and the world economy as a whole. We will also try to answer the questions of whether AI has reached levels of replacing human labor entirely, and whether there is also a positive side to this - for example by creating opportunities for new jobs that are related to operating and maintaining AI. This is achieved through analysis and synthesis of empirical information, analysis of various publications, graphs and statistical data from reputable sources. The results suggest that the usage of AI has triggered changes not only in the labor market, but also in the economy as a whole that will shape economic processes not only in the upcoming few years, but for decades to come.
