- Summary/Abstract:In the years after 2000, the Bulgarian viticulture experienced a serious crisis - the total areas with vineyards decreased almost three times, and the share of unsupported vineyards in the winegrowing holding growing. The vineyards in Bulgaria are being restored at a slow pace - young vines are only 4-6%, and less than 700 hectares of new vineyards are created annually. Variety of inferior quality predominates in the variety structure. The age structure of the vine plantations is seriously impaired. Average yields of wine grape vines, although growing, cannot compensate for the reduced area and the total grape production decreases. In recent years, the negative tendency to reduce the production of wine grapes has been halted, which stands at about 200-210 thousand tons.

- Summary/Abstract:Bulgaria, as a wine producer, has always occupied a significant place on the world wine map. The top positions in the volume of production and exports in the 1970s and 1980s, and now the numerous medals from world competitions and exhibitions in recent years, reveal the enormous potential of the Bulgarian wine sector. On the other hand, economic data shows a significant drop in both the volume of wine produced and the volume of exported quantities. This report aims, through a brief quantitative and qualitative characterization of the wines produced in our country, to reveal the current state of wine production in Bulgaria and by affecting the levels of trade on the international and local market, to identify important key factors for future better results of the wine sector.

- Summary/Abstract:Bulgaria is a country with long-standing traditions in the production and export of wine. From the 1990s to the present day, up to 80% of the wine produced in the country is exported. Bottled wine accounts for the largest relative share of total exported quantities. The purpose of the report is to identify some trends in the sector's development in the country on the basis of a common characteristic of the world wine market and analysis of trends related to the exported quantities of bottled wine from Bulgaria. The analysis is based on secondary data and covers the period 2007-2017.

- Summary/Abstract:The report examines the institutional framework in which the vine and wine sector of Bulgaria operates. A study has been made of the legal basis on which the sector is regulated, the institutions that regulate its processes, the scientific and personnel servicing of the sector, the vineyard register, etc. As a member of the European Union, Bulgaria applies the mechanisms of the Common Organization of the Wine Market. The sector's financial support policy for the post-2000 period has been explored. A special place is given to the role and importance of the National Support Programs for the Vine and Wine Sector.

- Summary/Abstract:According to the definition of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), the principles of sustainable development of the wine sector are based on four aspects - ecological, social, economic and cultural. Varietal diversity as a collection of local, introduced and newly selected varieties, was essential for achieving sustainability in each of these directions. In this study was analyzed the change in the structure of the main wine grape varieties in Bulgaria under the influence of economic factors such as investment activity, policy mechanisms, market environment, organizational structure of economic entities. A comparison has been made between the amendment in the varietal structure of wine grapes varieties in the country and the observed global variation. The place of local varieties has been highlighted as a potential for sustainability and, at the same time, as a success factor on the example of wineries from Haskovo region.

- Summary/Abstract:The influence of extreme climatic phenomena on the volume of yield and the quality of grapes produced, according to the soil and climatic conditions of growing – extremely low and high temperatures, frost damages, sun burn, hails, torrential rains, storms, soil erosion, drought, and possibilities to reduce the damages caused by them, have been researched. The ways of combating the consequences of the negative effects of natural factors have been pointed out, aimed at increasing the efficiency at a sectoral level, and supporting the sustainable development of Bulgarian viticulture and wine production.

In the conditions of constantly rising energy prices on the one hand and on the other hand climate change obliges us as a society to take measures to increase energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy sources. The subject of this report is to put the results of a study on the management of energy flows in a small winery. The cellar has a processing capacity of 30,000 kg. grapes per year. The topic is particularly relevant and the government of Bulgaria and the European Union have set targets for reducing emissions. The goals include not only large energy companies but end users as small businesses and even families.

The problems are examined in the context of the workers in the wine-making, the authors analyze in complexity the labor law and the corresponding insurance law regulation. - Summary/Abstract:Bulgaria is not only a country with long-standing traditions in the winegrowing and wine-producing aspects of the wine industry, but this is also a country with remarkable current and future prospects in the winemaking in Europe. As a proof to this statement we can present the fact that at the last 25th wine competition of Mondial du Bruxelles for 2018, Bulgaria, for the third time in a row, won the highest distinction - the Grand Gold Medal and in addition to that, it altogether won 44 medals, of which 15 gold medals and 28 silver medals. Thirty of the medals are awarded for red wine (68%), 10 for rosé and four for white wine (9%). The chief goal of this report is to prove that in the Northwest region, which is part of the North and the East wine-producing regions, there are favorable conditions which allow purposeful strategies to be applied in order to develop the wine-growing and the wine-producing industry in this area.

- Summary/Abstract:Traditions in viticulture and wine production on the territories of present day regions of Haskovo and Kardzhali date back more than six millennia. A SWOT analysis was carried out to reveal the potential for wine tourism development in both areas. The analytical activity is limited to interpreting official data on the state of the viticulture and wine sector, as well as data on the company's offer of wine tourism from five wineries in the region of Haskovo. Both areas have the necessary tourist facilities (hotels and restaurants), beautiful nature, unique and attractive archaeological sites. The rich history and the existing traditions of viticulture and wine production can successfully be combined in offering wine tourism. Its stable long-term development requires all stakeholders to unite on common tourist routes and / or clusters to attract more tourists together. Cross-border cooperation is an additional opportunity to create synergies and sustainability through the development of wine tourism.

- Summary/Abstract:In the context of globalization of markets, of fierce competition and deepening the problem of the realization of the production produced in the wine sector, there is a need to change the existing models of organization in the supply and realization of this production. Given the fact that logistics is an essential element of globalization in the markets, the formation of supply chains is an important factor for business survival. Opportunities need to be sought to optimize the activities involved in the production and realization chain and to reduce the cost of their implementation. The purpose of this report is to show that the integration of processes and business activities in the chain "Viticulture - Winemaking - Wine tourism" is the basis for effective management where the company at every stage of its activity adds value to its product and raises its competitive advantages.

- Summary/Abstract:Investments and the investment process in viticulture have characteristics that distinguish them from those in the other sectors due to the character of the plantations, the concentration of significant investment costs per unit area, the long period of return of the invested funds, the intertwining of biological processes with economic processes, the specifics of the technological decisions, the operation of specific agrarian policy, the combination of multiple interests due to the high degree of integration with wine production, etc. All these features imply a thorough and comprehensive study of the investment and investment process, the disclosure of their characteristics and the search for opportunities for rationalizing the organization, management and evaluation of the investment process in viticulture. An assessment of potential problems and difficulties in conducting investment preplanning research, investment planning decision and construction of vineyards is carried out. Analyzed and evaluated is the control of the investment process by investors and external institutions.
