STEM Teaching-Learning Communication Strategies for Deaf Students Language is one of the most important features of humanity and an essential element of human existence. Sign language is a solution to meet the verbal and communication needs of the Deaf community as the many spoken languages meet the communication needs of the hearing community. Since unique skills and life experiences shape scientists, each researcher has their own perspective on research endeavors. Consequently, the diversity of life and cultural experiences among scientists has led to the expansion of research directions, and accordingly, to scientific inventions and discoveries. Deaf people, for example, have been successful prospects in scientific research and discoveries. However, the Deaf continue to face challenges in academic science and engineering education. Most Deaf students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) associate with professors who have little experience working with Deaf people and often lack an awareness of Deaf people and their culture. A lack of access to the necessary communication skills can often cause Deaf students to feel dissatisfied or unable to study basic science and engineering subjects. This paper attempts to provide some key solutions to support Deaf students in science and engineering using a descriptive-analytical approach, reviewing the evidence, opinions, and experiences of Deaf experts and scientists. In this study, we discuss potential topics for teaching and coaching research suitable to the Deaf academic environment, concerning the layout of class and chairs, and also point out the importance of Deaf/hard of hearing scientists in deaf-related research. In addition, we address the need and impact of general and specialized sign language instruction in university curricula to enhance the communication skills of interested graduates in the face of the Deaf community.

ФРАЗЕОЛОГИЗМИ С КОМПОНЕНТ „ПАРИ“ В БЪЛГАРСКИЯ И В РУМЪНСКИЯ ЕЗИК

Current paper analyzes phrasemes with the component ―money‖ in Bulgarian and Romanian languages. The similar life conditions on both sides of the Danube are reflected in the phrasemes in Bulgarian and Romanian languages. The variety of similar features in the linguistic and cultural aspect is a preposition for phrasemes-calques presence, and the direction of calquing cannot be determined, ie. to identify the language in his capacity as a source. It has been registered phrasemes analogues – phrasemes that differ in one or more components, but their basic structure and lexical meaning are the same. It has been reported greatest number of the unique phrasemes, and the topic of interest are differences in the lexical meaning of the analogues, which are motivated by the different perception of the reality.

„СВ. СВ.“ ИЛИ ОЩЕ ЗА ХИПЕРКОРЕКТНОСТТА

The topic of the report is a spelling problem that has not been resolved in the last thirty years. This is the problem of spelling the adjective „saint" twice (St.St.) before the names of two saints whose names are traditionally associated and always used together. Writing this way is logically and grammatically unjustified and the reason for it is hypercorrectness. Specific examples are provided to prove that this type of spelling is incorrect. To date, there is no codified rule governing the writing of this type of word combination. A proposal is made to codify a spelling rule that governs the writing of the spelling problem under consideration.

Various Dimensions of Place in Language Studies

The book serves as a collection of articles concerning different approaches to the notion of ‘place’ in terms of contrastive studies. Out of eight articles, the first four concentrate on the place of conceptualization in languages. Next two contributions discuss the notion of ‘place’ from a more literal point of view, concentrating on the role of case and prepositional systems in the expression of place as well as on the concept of place from the pragmatic point of view, as discursive representation of places in Polish and American cultures is analysed. The third part of the book contains two articles focusing on language contact. Each of the above-mentioned contributions provides an inspiring approach to contrastive studies and further research.

Przydatność tradycyjnego podręcznika do nauki języka obcego w nauczaniu zdalnym

The article deals with the topic of the usefulness of a traditional textbook in the teaching of Italian at philological studies, especially in reference to the changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The latest theoretical approaches to textbooks are taken into account, as well as the specifics of distance teaching in general, in order to highlight the conditions of foreign language teaching in the pandemic (considered “emergency distance teaching”) and the ways traditional textbooks are used. The analysis of the usefulness of textbooks in remote education is based on the results of a survey conducted in February and March 2021 among Italian language instructors at selected Polish universities.

Design-based research of ESP/EAP materials: online courses for the MA and PhD students

Design-based research (DBR) involves developing materials based on a strong link between research and educational practice. The paper aims to follow the DBR and describe English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purpose (EAP) online courses presented for the MA and PhD students. The paper seeks to address two following questions: What is the model of ESP online course for the MA students? What is the model of ESP online course for the PhD students? The project will use the mixed type of research, including a questionnaire study and self-reflection analysis. The results are hoped to bring practical implications for further online courses developed at the university level.

The CLIL mindset: investigating open-mindedness of CLIL teachers

The aim of the article is to discuss the research results of one of the most important character virtue, namely open-mindedness. The research was conducted among CLIL teachers for whom this virtue seems to be indispensable, bearing in mind various obstacles, which they have to face in CLIL education e.g. lack of teaching materials. In order to collect the data, the VIA Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) was disseminated among Primary, Junior High School and Secondary School teachers. The VIA Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) is a 120-item measure of character strengths, with each of 24 character strengths assessed by 10 items. In the following article, only the data concerning open-mindedness will be discussed.

The book introduces the case study of instruction as a means of cultivating (field)didactic thinking. In the first part, case studies are introduced as a research tool in clinical fields. Particular attention is devoted to case studies of instruction and their role in transdisciplinary research in didactics. The second part of the book presents 25 case studies of instruction that have been developer by various teams that consisted of researchers and teachers. ROMÁN NYELV TANÍTÁSA AZ ERDÉLYI MAGYAR KISEBBSÉGNEK

Romanian language and literature is a compulsory subject for students of the Hungarian minority in Romania. The teaching of Romanian to Hungarian children and its shortcomings is a controversial and much-debated topic among teachers, parents, researchers, and policy-makers involved in the process. In recent years, several attempts have been made to bring about the expected paradigm shift in the teaching of Romanian in order to allow Hungarian pupils to learn Romanian as a foreign language. This has been successfully introduced in the elementary classes, but there is a significant difference in the levels and content of the textbooks for the 4th and 5th grades, which causes serious difficulties for 5th graders. Our study presents the initial stages of a textbook analysis. We examine the extent to which one of the textbooks available for 5th graders follows the methodological shift of communicative and post-communicative language teaching and makes use of the possibilities offered by the learners’ linguistic repertoire.

The study presents the history and the current situation of the Faroese language, the most important stages in its development and revival. The paper discusses in detail the background to the reform of the Faroese language and the development of its orthography, giving examples that illustrate the grammatical differences between Faroese and other Scandinavian languages. In describing the current state of the language, it can be stated that although there are still shortcomings in the field of specialized languages, Faroese is now used at all levels of the education system.
