Hydra for Web: WordNet Online Editor

The paper presents the CRUD functions of the Hydra for Web system for work on lexical-semantic databases with relational structure similar to the structure of WordNet. It supports functionalities for editing of relational data, simultaneous access of multiple users, parallel data visualisation. Hydra for Web has been used for the development of the Bulgarian wordnet.

The abundance of diverse and well-preserved natural features specific heritage and anthropogenic factors make the territory of the Middle Rhodopes attractive for tourism during all seasons of the year. Many of the villages in the region over the past 20 years have established themselves as destinations for rural tourism. The paper summarized the results conducted among residents of the municipalities of Plovdiv, Pazardzhik and Stara Zagora survey on opinions and attitudes towards rural tourism product in the region of the Middle Rhodopes. As was clear from the responses to the survey, residents of large cities are the main users of rural tourism product, their opinion is very important and should be taken into account in the formation of rural tourism product. Most appeal ability factor for consumers (actual and potential), according to respondents’ presence of the original rural setting “precisely the essential content of rural tourism. Necessary, on the one hand, to keep the originality and authenticity of the region and objects, and another to create and convenience for tourists in terms of easy accessibility, infrastructure, quality of service and more. The aim of the article is to examine consumer interest in rural tourism product in the region of the Middle Rhodopes. So they explored the factors that attract users of rural tourism product in the region.

The assessment of the competitive position can answer the question what are the competitive advantages and disadvantages of the company at that time. The results could be useful for the selection of priority areas for action by the company management. In this study an assessment of competitiveness by selected indicators of two of the largest Bulgarian telecom operators - Mobiltel and BTC, was made. There is a comparison of labor productivity levels, financial indicators (return on equity ratio, current ratio, financial autonomy ratio, financial autonomy indicators); indicators of company growth (revenue increase, increase of the relative market share in relation to the main competitor, fix assets increase, staff increase). The results could be useful for the selection of priority areas for action by the company management.

This study was motivated by the fundamental objective of the National program information and communication technology (ICT) in education, developed by the Ministry of Education. A successful ICT modernization of education includes not only e-learning, but also suitable electronic content to provide quality education. A review of the theoretical analysis of the current status of the problem was conducted and followed by a proposal for web-based platform for teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language for the first two levels according to the Common European Framework. The motivation of teaching foreign language and attitudes of learners to use interactive media in the learning process of a foreign language was investigated and analyzed.

The paper analyses Bulgarian schools’ readiness to respond to the recent information society’s challenges. It is based on the data from a survey of teachers who participated in seminars under the project ‘’Promoting Excellence in Teaching and Research in EU Studies at Primary and Secondary School Level through Digital and Virtualisation Tools (EU PETR)”. The respondents were asked to answer questions related to: (1) the frequency of using electronic resources; (2) the most frequently used instructional e-resources, and (3) the most frequently applied e-resources by them. The analysis is based on the assumption that the ICT situation of the schools in the country has a key significance for Bulgarian development in the era of mass mobile communications and services, increasing e-business and cloud-based applications, the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet for All. Today it is not enough to have access to a computer and internet; the most important thing is to be information literate and acculturated (to have knowledge of computer systems, cyberspace, to work with information resources, to observe the rules of conduct in the virtual environment, etc.). In a world where information is the key resource for development, and people/consumers create virtual communities (which are characterized with a purposeful use of ICT), the lack of information culture guarantees “digital slavery”. It is prognosticated that the tendency for connectivity among information technologies, artificial and natural systems, people and man-made parallel virtual words will be reinforced in the near future. At the same time, analysis results show evidence of a digital gap in our educational system. Bulgarian schools seem digitally disadvantaged for the ICT world challenges and are apparently unable to meet the real practical needs. As a result, there is a significant contradiction between public expectations and Bulgarian schools’ ability to respond to the new ICT tasks with state-of-the-art instruments.

Methodological ideas are given in the paper for using the random numbers generator in programming education. A set of problems is presented in connection with visual programming education on the base of the C# language. The aims and the main stages are exposed for the solution of each problem. Also, the problems illustrate a possibility to combine the process of programming education with the creation of games. The set under consideration contains 10 problems, including 7 ones which are original and 3 ones are well-known classic games. The aim and the main stages of the solution are presented for each problem.

Some aspects of programming education are examined in this work. The emphasis is on the entertainment value. The most appropriate examples are chosen to demonstrate the different language constructions and data structures. Such an example is the demonstrated algorithm for solving the widespread nowadays sudoku puzzle. This is made because of the connection with the term set and putting it into practice in the programming.
