One of the main pedagogical ideas at the beginning of the 21st century that provokes a significant change of the educational policies and practices, including in Bulgaria, and deserves a special attention, is the concept about the Inclusive education. In the presented survey a model of inclusive education that relies on the potential of art is outlined. The possibilities of nontraditional art activities (drawing with fingers and palms, painting with woolen threads, creation of a painting with raw wool) for the effective implementation of inclusive process is analyzed on the basis of taking into account the differences in the particularities of each student, the level of the student’s intellectual and social development, as well the emotional condition. Results from own empirical studies are presented. The conducted experimental activity with students and the questionnaire survey with parents and teachers is a bright proof that the nontraditional art activity is a powerful and effective tool in the inclusive educational environment but it is still not well-known and not used enough.

There are various perceptions of the quality of education for sustainable development, using diverse indicators, criteria and tools in the different European countries. The evaluation is at an organizational level and the main indicators are: management of the organization and the training service, planning, implementing and monitoring of the service, correspondence with the themes, goals and methods of education for sustainable development and competence of trainers. The article includes an analytical literature review of theoretical and practical information on systems and approaches for quality assurance of non-formal education for sustainable development. It also shortly presents the implemented Bulgarian system for evaluation of such services through the “Gold Walnut” quality badge. The developed criteria for quality assessment of educational activities and the “Gold Walnut” quality badge are directly related to the effectiveness of these activities for biodiversity conservation as a prevention tool. Conducting quality educational activities, related to the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and competences in ecology and environmental protection has a significant role in expanding the scope and increasing the effectiveness of services offered by nature and national park administrations and other environmental organizations.

Teachers’ Beliefs in the Triangle of Professional Self-Assessment, Perception of Self-Efficacy and Perception of Achievement in the Qualification Procedure

The Hungarian Teacher Career Model including summative assessment of teachers’ performance and functioning as a qualification procedure initiated our research investigating the interrelationships among teachers’ self-assessment, self-efficacy beliefs and perception of achievement in the qualification procedure. In the frame of quantitative research design our two hypotheses were proved by statistical evidence. We can claim that Teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs contribute to their professional self-assessment but only in case of some professional competences. Evidence has been provided to prove that it is the work with students that counts for teachers to feel professionally effective. Supporting students with proper teaching methods, considering their individual needs and building their community mean for teachers to be good at their profession. It has also been supported that Teachers’ achievement assessed by and independent group of professionals is important but not the most important source of teachers’ professional efficacy beliefs. These beliefs similarly to self-assessment are rooted in perception of quality work with students. All these facts have convinced us that it is the student’s development that serves as the main standard for Hungarian teachers to assess their professional work. If we want to bring standards of qualification procedure (summative assessment) closer to standards of teachers’ self-assessment, we should involve “clients” views and beliefs” in professional standards and help them compare their performance to those standards

The increase of the efficiency of the education in mathematics in Grades 1. – 4. in respect of geometry tasks solving is related not only to the choice of strategies, technologies and methods of work by the teacher but also with the students’ style of studying in the process of acquiring the abstract educational content. The aim of the research work was to develop and study methodology system of work for application of different types of cognitive styles of studying which will facilitate the students to develop skills for solving geometry tasks as part of the education in mathematics for Grade 2. The study presented some theoretical concepts related to the cognitive style of studying, to the problem productive strategy of education and to the problem-solving process. Also, there is description of the combined strategies, technologies, approaches and methods of work that have been applied. The developed methodology system of work is applied during the mandatory mathematics classes in Grade 2. It includes series of geometry tasks through which the author creates mathematical situation for use of different styles of studying by the students. Additionally, certain specifics of the tasks are emphasized. The article presents some specifics of the methodology options of work with different geometry tasks for development of every one of the four styles of studying (according to Goob) and namely: divergent style (concrete experience, reflexive observation), convergent style (abstract conceptualization, active observation), assimilative style (abstract conceptualization, reflexive observation), accommodative style (concrete experience, active experimenting) by the students over the course of the educational process.

The present study focuses on an actual problem of inclusive education, i.e. providing additional support to children and students with special educational needs during training. A special component of the additional support for personal development of SEN children and students is assistive technologies. Through such technologies, academic knowledge and skill acquisition are fostered, learners are encouraged to be more independent and are given the opportunity to perform assignments in the training process as equals, in respect to their peers. The present study includes a survey among the pedagogical community, and the results show that the percentage of those who are familiar with and use assistive technologies in the training of SEN learners is low (12%). A presentation of assistive technologies used in education according to the functional difficulties of learners has been included in this article.

This article presents and analyses a study on the perceptions and attitudes towards the use of Educational Computer Games in the practice of speech and language therapists in Bulgaria.116 specialists were involved in a survey, designed by the authors, and answered various questions about the use of ECG in their everyday practice. More than half of the participants – 77% (N=88) stated that they use ECG in their everyday practice. The results of the survey clearly demonstrated that according to 64.5% of the respondents, the use of ECG has a positive impact on the educational process. Only 3.9% of the participants in the survey consider ECG to have a negative effect on their work. On top of the list of positive effects we find knowledge acquisition (68,4%), followed by motivation for learning (65,8%), and at the bottom – development of communication skills (43,4%). Some (59%) of the participants think that the use of ECG has a positive effect on the skills and motivation of the children on their homework activities. The analysis of the results leads to the conclusion that the majority of the specialists in Bulgaria find the use of ECG useful in their practice, with positive outcomes for the children, as well as themselves.

The Case of Education for Sustainable Development Approaches Implementation at English Language Classes at the Technical University in Ukraine

The paper highlights the importance of ESD implementation at Ukrainian universities and explains reasons for its restriction. The authors intended to demonstrate possible ways of ESD values and principles introduction into English language classes for engineers in order to facilitate the interdisciplinarity and sustainability values throughout the curriculum. The research suggests strategies to bridge the gap between science and humanities. The study is aimed at analyzing of practical experience of ESD approaches efficiency at English language classes. The application of following approaches is described: eco composition, placed-based learning and interdisciplinary project-based learning. The survey was conducted at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. The mentioned approaches are analyzed in terms of learning outcomes, level of interdisciplinarity, advantages and limitations. Results proved that some of the proposed approaches increased students’ sustainability awareness, fostered language learning and enhanced students’ level of motivation.

The indices of children’s oculomotor activity during reading are determined by the maturity level of cognitive processes involved in the psychophysiological structure of reading and underlie the rate of reading skill development from ages 6 – 7 to 9 – 10 years. The lack of differences in the basic indices of eye movements between normally- and poorly-reading children indicates different rates of reading skill improvement in children with different initial levels of skill development (poorly-reading children had higher rates of skill development). This might be explained by the later formation of rudimentary cognitive functions in these children.

The main conclusion of the review of these teaching materials is that the grammar and the methodological guides for the teachers offer more modern treatment of the Modern Greek verbal system, while the textbooks adhere to the traditional description of the verbal system.

Anton Nikopit is one of the forgotten representatives of the Bulgarian Revival intelligence, whose pedagogical work is almost unexplored. The article is devoted to the merits of the Revival writer in education - as a teacher, author and translator of didactical literature. Issues related to his literary work are clarified, the focus of the study being Constantinos Vardalachos`s text book of - Μαθηματαδιὰτοὺςπαιδασ (Ученiя за дѣца-та, Lessons for Children), translated by him. A description and analysis of the contents of the handbook, its structure, its subject, as well as the applied methodology of the classroom and lesson system are made. The conclusion contains in ferences about the usefulness of the textbook in view of the modern European practices of education and training that enter the Bulgarian secular education directly or through Greek didactic literature, and the merits of A. Nikopit in this process.
