Comparison of map reading skills and geographical knowledge of future officers and geography teachers

Map reading is an important skill of the human population which varies from person depending on the age, education and many other circumstances. It is expected that some groups of adult population have higher skills in this area. Soldiers, architects, geography teachers and others belong to this group of people. The skills in reading paper maps are disappearing in current digital world. This is also observed in the case of students of the University of Defense in Brno. 228 students were tested in map reading and geographical knowledge of the Czech Republic to verify this fact. The examination of the map reading skills took place over a standard topographic map at a scale of 1 : 25 000 from the production of the Geographic Service of ACR. Testing of geographical knowledge of the Czech Republic was focused on drawing the map of district towns, rivers and geomorphological units of the Czech Republic. The results confirmed the initial assumptions about the decreasing level of these skills. In addition, there were also significant differences between individual groups of students caused mostly because of previous education as well as the currently studied specialization. The same testing was done on students of the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University in Brno to confirm these conclusions. This group students achieved worse results in map reading, but on the other hand, they have better knowledge of the geography of the Czech Republic.

Podpora zdraví v kurikulu střední a vyšší zdravotnické školy

The text is describing the research implementing in the diploma thesis with a title of "Health support in curriculum of Secondary Nursing School and Nursing College in Prague". The aim of qualitative research was to ascertain how this school has taken the chances of health support in its pedagogical documents, what lifestyle the teachers have and what is the concrete experience with an implementation of health support. The research was done with the help of three techniques of data collection: the method of half-structured interviews with selected teachers, analysis of relevant pedagogical documents and the method of observing during lessons and outside lessons. The inquiry also shown that issues of health support is very well anchored in curricular documents but limited personnel and capacitive opportunities of the school. Despite the fact it is possible to state, the health support at this school is being realized the way we can consider that as an example of good practice.

PAREMIOLOŠKI MINIMUM U NASTAVI NJEMAČKOG JEZIKA I NJEGOVI EKVIVALENTI U BOSANSKOM JEZIKU

The paremiological or proverbial minimum represents the most frequent proverbs that are verbally used in some language. The 20 most frequent German proverbs, which resulted 190from the research of the eminent German linguist Kun Hwan Kim (1999), are the basis for this paper. Given that the subject of this study are language expressions that are actively used in standard German, the aim of this paper is to explore to what extent the students of German studies of the I and II cycle are familiar with proverbs and how would they, as future teachers of German language and literature, explain proverbs in the teaching process. For this purpose students' surveys will be conducted with the intention of detecting the degree of knowledge of the given language material, its correct use in the given context and the ability to make its appropriate adaptation in Bosnian. The integral part of the survey will also cover issues that address the methodology of the analysis of the proverbial minimum, since proverbs and phrases in general are underrepresented in the teaching process, with the aim to improve the teaching of the foreign language including proverbs and phrases as its integral part.

TIPOVI TEKSTUALNIH ZADATAKA U UDŽBENICIMA MATEMATIKE ZA 2. I 3. RAZRED OSNOVNE ŠKOLE

Word problems play an important role in forming the concepts of basic arithmetic operations.Such tasks are an integral part of mathematics textbooks, which are essential sources in the most classroom-based teaching and learning. The aim of this paper is to analyze textbook sets 78for the second and the third grade of primary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to determine the extent to which word problems are represented, especially word problems in a non-mathematical context. The representation of 16 types of elementary word problems on addition and subtraction and 18 types of elementary word problems on multiplication and division in 4 sets of textbooks in Bosnia and Herzegovina is examined. The findings indicate that all types of elementary word problems related to basic arithmetic operations are not adequately represented or distributed in textbooks for the second and the third grade of primary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ratio of word problems in the mathematical and non-mathematical context varies in the considered textbooks. Since the analysis of the content of textbooks is necessary, but not enough to understand the process of teaching and learning mathematics, this research can be seen as a starting point for further research that would focus on the work of teachers in the classroom, as well as the student population and their skills in solving word problems.

ENCODING AND DECODING IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC

No one was ready for the pandemic that struck us all without notice. Slowly, common everyday jobs became online jobs whenever possible. The education system was not spared either. Classrooms have been replaced by home environment, and everyday teaching activities have also become online activities. It has been a year since we worked in such conditions. Each of us adjusted as best we could. As children / students need activity (which is now kept to a minimum), their interest in teaching content has been considerably reduced. Thinking about how to increase the interest of students, we came to the idea that certain teaching contents could be studied in a totally different environment. After processing the most important contents related to matrices, their practice is carried out through coding and decoding of certain sentences. The mysticism of coding and decoding messages was used to increase students’ motivation, which proved to be very successful. All students, with whom the model that will be presented in the paper was realized, expressed the most positive attitudes towards this way of working, and expressed enthusiasm during the process of encoding and decoding.

KREATIVNA ONLINE NASTAVA NA PREDMETU TEORIJA PREVOĐENJA I

Language is constantly changing, both in time and in space. Changes in language occur especially during the coronavirus pandemic. Considering that due to mentioned pandemic the teaching takes place online, the idea arose to look for new words created during the coronavirus, in the German and Bosnian language, in the course Translation Theory I, and thus make online teaching interesting and creative. For German, the research of the German Language Institute in Mannheim served as a basis, while the equivalents, where they existed, were excerpted by researching online platforms in Bosnian. The result of this comprehensive research is a German-Bosnian corona-glossary. The aim of this paper is to present the results of this extensive research which included about 1400 words. In this regard, this paper will have two objectives: 1. to investigate the representation of word types within both corpora; 2. to explore all semantic fields in which corona-words can be classified (economics, teaching, laws and measures, etc.). The contribution of this paper is in the research of neologisms in both contrasting languages, and in contrastive research in general.

TRADITIONAL, DISAPPEARING AND EMERGING HUMAN GEOGRAPHY TOPICS AT GRAMMAR ACHOOLS AND IN UNDERGRADUATE GEOGRAPHY TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Traditional Human Geography was referred to as Socio-economic Geography in the didactic practice of the Soviet bloc. Thematic areas of the Socio-economic Geography curriculum included traditional topics: population and settlement, economy, manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries, services, tourism and foreign trade. The current curriculum of the subject of Geography has undergone the transformation of the content of the curriculum. The original topic of the population and settlements has been modified mainly under the influence of the development of Social Geography at the CU in Prague. In the field of Economic Geography, the thematic content has responded to the Industry Classification System, with emerging topics related to the quaternary and quinary sector of economy. There have emerged topics related to Cultural Geography, including the development of Political Geography. The paper presents the comparison of traditional, disappearing and emerging topics of Human Geography within the curricula of grammar schools and undergraduate Geography teacher training programmes.

DEVELOPMENT STUDIES AND DEVELOPMENT GEOGRAPHY IN THE SYSTEM OF EARTH SCIENCES

There is an ongoing debate on the future of geography as a science. The Earth is almost explored and therefore the space for the application of geography is relatively narrower than in the past. At the same time, there are fields of geography such as Development Studies and Development Geography which bring new impetus. Development geography deals with the study of the spatial aspects of development, or more precisely of insufficient development of economically less advanced countries. Until recently, this issue has not been an important part of teaching and research activities at Czech universities, but the situation has changed in the last decade. The paper provides an overview of recent evolution and position of Development Studies and Development Geography in the system of Earth Sciences, taking into consideration the Czech context. It reviews the debate on the mission of Development studies and development geography and considers the role of geography in our perceptions of developing countries and their problems.

The project is providing resources and capacities to develop, implement and maintain practical education of students from all three institutions in the field of Earth, natural sciences as well as human sciences. Altogether 85 students have participated in the project activities and have been practically trained; moreover 6 Bachelor and 5 Maser theses were carried out up to now.

Evaluation of Inquiry-Based Mathematics Education

The PLATINUM project is a joint effort to develop an approach for teaching and learning mathematics at university level that will improve the balance between procedural and conceptual learning of mathematics and build a community of inquiry that will disseminate this approach across European universities. It promotes inquiry-based practices while encouraging collaboration across regional, European and international institutions. This chapter focuses on one of the main intellectual outputs on the project: \Guidelines and recommendations for quality assessment in Inquiry Based Learning environment" (IO6). One of the main goals of the project is not only to provide lecturers with the tools to implement inquiry-based practice, but to offer practical guidelines that enable them to independently monitor their progress in mastering Inquiry-Based Mathematics Education (IBME) methods and students' engagement with more efficient learning approaches (see Guideline Document available on the PLATINUM website).

Introduction to the Case Studies in PLATINUM

PLATINUM is a project in which the main focus is the development of teaching and learning mathematics through an inquiry-based approach in which our students, through their own inquiry in mathematics, engage more deeply and develop more conceptual mathematical understandings. The project spans seven countries with partners in eight universities. In each of these universities the partner team has engaged with ideas about inquiry-based learning and teaching in mathematics and, in so doing, members have developed their own practices. In our submission to the EU Erasmus+ programme, we promised a book in which each partner would write a case study, from their inquiry community, in which they would discuss their learning and development through engagement with the six Intellectual Outputs of the project (see Chapters 2 and 5 and below). This chapter provides an introduction to these case studies and a brief perspective on the main elements of each case study.

Teaching Students to Think Mathematically Through Inquiry: The Norwegian Experience

The University of Agder (UiA) is a public university located in the southern part of Norway on two campuses, one in a larger city of Kristiansand where the university administration and most faculties are situated and another in a smaller town of Grimstad, about 45 kilometres distant from the main campus. UiA is one of the youngest universities in Norway, yet its history dates back to 1839 when the Teacher Training School was established at Holt rectory. Being one of the major driving forces for the regional development, UiA is also internationally oriented; it contributes to many international projects in education and research as a leading organisation (as in PLATINUM) or as a partner. The university is the home to about 13,000 students and 890 academic staff. It is organised in six faculties: Faculty of Engineering and Science, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, School of Business and Law and has a Teacher Education Unit.

In Critical Alignment With IBME

The aim of this contribution is to describe the professional growth of the Leibniz- University-Hannover-group (LUH-group). The four authors of this chapter are the core members of the LUH-group and belong to a working group in the mathematics education department of Leibniz University Hannover. In the beginning, a number of people from other departments were interested in joining the LUH-group, but either transferred to other universities (in Germany staff changes between universities are quite common), or didn't and the time to attend meetings on a regular basis. The LUH-group conducts research in the field of university mathematics education and, with regard to teaching, offers courses in mathematics education for prospective mathematics teachers at secondary school level. This means all LUH-group-members are mathematics education researchers as well as mathematics teacher educators. The reported professional growth is connected to our involvement in and reflection of a developmental research project called Leibniz-Prinzip (see Section 14.2).

Experience in Implementing IBME at the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University

In recent years, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University has faced the problem of low motivation of future students in choosing mathematics programmes, and in teaching| with the problem of involving students in active learning through the use of new methods of teaching mathematics. One of the ways to tackle these problems is the use of innovative pedagogy and educational technology by mathematics teachers, which stimulate students' motivation to study mathematics and their involvement in the learning process. This includes inquiry-based mathematics education (IBME). With this in mind, an educational community of mathematics teachers was created at the university to acquaint teachers with IBME and the peculiarities of its use. The purpose of creating such a community was: to acquaint teachers with the concept, types, and cyclic structure of inquiry; examples of use; discussion of the use of inquiry in the teaching and learning of mathematics at the university. Initially, theoretical problems were analysed, the experience of creating educational communities was studied as well as forms of their activities to attract university teachers to participate in the community.
