This text presents the male song repertoire of the Slavonic community from the region of Golo Bordo, Albania. In the traditional culture of this community exists a clear gender division of the played songs – determined like male and female. Having in mind the musical contents, a clear line could be drawn between the female songs which is ritualistic (calendar or family rituality) and the male songs which have no ritualistic function, whose intonation pattern is urban-village and which pertain to later musical layers. The men from this region are mobile, the model their live – gurbets and labour migrations (the life in cities and foreign countries), is the reason in the past and also today for the „opening” of their song repertoire.

The article discusses the biography of the author Velichko Aleksiev Popov who is almost unknown in the Bulgarian literature. Bulgarian and foreign scholar (including Ivan Radev, Elena Syupyur, Veselin Kandimirov, Mihail Dimitrov, etc) devoted short essays on his personality and creativity. As the author Velichko Alexiev Popov is not known. His name was associated with the name of Botev, although the poet Velochko Popov – the author of the poem “A happy meeting. Contemporary forest-exilic poem” – deserves its place in the Bulgarian literature. He is interesting not only as a poet but as an interesting person as well. The biography of the poet is not well studied, but it deserves the attention of researchers because a thorough study of his life and work would be useful and would explain the relationship between different texts of the Bulgarian Revival. Such as between the texts of Popov and texts of Rakovski, on one side, and the texts of Popov and texts of Botev, on the other side.

The wars of Bulgarian ruler Symeon with Byzantium have been studied properly from various aspects. However there are issues that need to be further investigated. In this sense an attempt to study different peculiarities of captives’ life during the last years of the ninth and the first quarter of the tenth centuries is acceptable and understandable. To a certain extent chronological and many other frameworks of such scientific activity are caused by the political development of the Balkan Peninsula. The basic factor is information in the narratives. Historical sources which described moments of captives’ life have shown an ever changing picture. Although the observed data allow additional comments. It is relatively easy to see some traditional and new aspects in prisoners’ fate under the reign of tsar Symeon.

During the socialist period Albanians from Macedonia, then a federal republic within the frame of the Yugoslavian federation, get the opportunity to go as workers in a number of West-European countries in accordance to the signed in late 1960s by the Yugoslav government official agreements for labor recruitment with Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France etc. Initially (first two decades) migrants were solely men and migration was temporary. These trips did not differ so much from the traditional gurbet patterns. The women’s share in the host places has increased since the mid 1980s due to various factors and reasons. Notwithstanding, the taboo woman to go and work alone abroad is still in force. On the other side, nowadays there are many women who were born and grown abroad. The article seeks to examine the changes in social structure and in relations within the Albanian household and to describe some aspects of varying and dynamically changing male positions and statuses among Albanians at condition of intensive and ongoing migration.
