Един неизследван тип числителни в българската средновековна книжнина

The article focuses on an unexplored type of numerals in the Mediaeval Bulgarian luterature. In the majority of cases they are formed with къ preposition and rarely with надъ, връхѹ, съвръхѹ, съ. The phenomenon is examined in the context of languages of the Balkan linguistic community. It is stated that this formation of numerals is in a certain connection with Balkan Latin and has pure native (Balkan) origin. Except for the languages of the Balkan linguistic community the phenomenon is also encountered in some proclaimed to be Russian translations from Greek as Josephus Flavius’ Jewish War and Pseudo-Callisthenes’ Alexander romance. As the observed phenomenon is not to be met in the original Russian literature as well as in the dialects of the Russian language it is considered that it could be a strong evidence that these translations originate from the Balkan Slavic area.

The text of the Vita is studied in a manuscript from the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. The manuscript dates from the XV c. and contains several texts with eschatological content. The main purpose of this study is to summarize the most important features of the Vita’s characters with a special attention paid to the relation between the Teacher (St. Basil) and his Student (Gregorius). This type of spiritual relationship is a hagiographical topos, but in this particular text the interactions between St. Basil and Gregorius have some traits, unusual for this genre.

The article deals with the issue of the work of Exarch Stephan I Bulgarian (1878 – 1957) concerning the ecumenical movement that began in the beginning of the 20th century. On the basis of the preserved archive and literary heritage of the ecclesiastic, his partiality for the ecumenical doctrine has been presented as an important part of his ideological biography. The consecutive factual material traces all initiatives and participations of the bishop in the world ecumenical forums. Exarch Stephan’s participation in the All-Orthodox Meeting in Moscow in 1948, where he was made to renounce the ecumenical ideas in public, has been discussed and analyzed. The ecclesiastic’s personal drama in the years of his exile which testify that he did not change his convictions for ecumenism in spite of the turn he was forced to make has also been discussed.

The specific off-field activities related to business or politics also contribute to the forming of the overall footballer image. In this manner the football player becomes a conductor of social behavior models and influences social attitudes and concepts. The development of the Bulgarian footballer’s image corresponds with the Balkan and Pan-European tendencies.

Yeremia Qyomurchyan (1637-1695) is one of the most prominent Armenian historiographs of the XVII century; he was born in Constantinople in the family of a monk. Though he lived in social environment of the Ottoman Empire full of different cultural relations, he carried all the features of the intellectual progress that had begun with the political and economic reorganization of the Armenian reality in XVII-XVIII centuries. Qyomurchyan is the author of a large number of historiographical-topographical, religious and literary works. His manuscripts are spread all over the world: one can find his works in the libraries of Yerevan, Venice, Vienna, Paris etc. Unfortunately they are mostly unpublished. This article is a brief reference to the most considerable works of Yeremia Chelepi Qyomurchyan, which are important primary sources not only for the Armenian studies, but also for Medieval and Ottoman studies.

Мъжът - глава на семейство в българското селско общество след Освобождението

The paper reveals the changes, occurred after the Liberation of Bulgaria (1878) in the role of husband as head of the family, according to the Bulgarian common law. They represent one of the manifestations of the changes in the Bulgarian common law as a whole during the period from the Liberation till the middle of the 20th century. The study is based on fieldwork materials collected by the author in North-Western Bulgaria. The role of husband as head of the family is expressed to a different extent in the different areas of the common law, but finds its most vivid expression in the family law, the inheritance law and partly in the law of contracts. That is why in the present study the attention is focused primarily on these three spheres of the Bulgarian common law. I will present the role of husband – head of the united family, which is a transitional form between the large patriarchal family (patriarchal community) and the modern nuclear family. Further it is pointed out, that the development of market economy gradually led to desintegration of the united family and establishing of the contemporary small family. In the clarification of the role of husband - head of the family in the inheritance after the Liberation the following issues will be addressed: the acquisition of the right of the head of the family to deprive his sons of heritage, the subdivision of movable and unmovable property (the main form of inheritance in the common Bulgarian law) more and more often before the death of the head of the family, and the acquisition of the right of the head of the family to make a testament. It is emphasized that the changes in the role of husband - head of the family in the Bulgarian rural society after the Liberation resulted from the development of the new socio – economic processes in the country during the period under study.

From "Save the Children" to "Save the Tribe". Childcare Organizations in Yugoslavia and Bulgaria 1919 - 1939

Summary The article presents the views and activities of the child protection movement in Yugoslavia and Bulgaria and their integration in the national ideologies of both countries in the interwar period 1919 - 1939. The main sources for the analyses are the periodicals Nasheto dete (Our Child) and Narodni podmladak” (National Offspring) as well as publications about child protection. In 1938 the second Balkan Congress for Child Protection took place in Belgrade and a Balkan Exhibition was prepared. The use of statistics, images, diagrams and photomontages in this exhibition is also analyzed in order to reveal the common tendencies as well as the differences between the child protection ideologies. The comparison between the Yugoslav and the Bulgarian Union of Child Protection in the inter-war period reveals many common features: similar social circumstances and demographic indexes, a common ideological basis and historical context of modernization, an openness to the achievements of other organizations. Nevertheless, the two organizations developed in different ways and they integrated themselves in a different manner into the national projects of the two countries.

Scenarios for new funeral rituals were design to overcome the “remains of the past” and the “reactionary influence” of religion. Of course what was considered most valuable, was his/her loyalty to the Party and the socialist state. Nevertheless of the Party control and suppression the new rituals did not play the task they were meant for – to affirm new concepts of death and life.

Consolidation of Common Identity: The Sokol Movement in Interwar Yugoslavia

After the creation of Yugoslavia in 1918 the Sokol movement began to promulgate Yugoslavism as an idea of preserving the unstable Yugoslav state from communism and the remnants of the Austro-Hungarian army. The Yugoslav King Alexander supported Sokol all the time seeing it as a suitable device for his national integration plans. According to the Sokol statute, it was supposed to bring up physically healthy, strong and nationally conscious citizens of Yugoslavia. The defensive training of the Sokol members was directly linked to the Yugoslav Military Ministry because both active and reserve officers took part in the instruction. Nevertheless, the expected unity of Yugoslavs was falling behind mostly because of the Serbo-Croat rivalry. The Sokol movement returned to its Yugoslav principles in 1929, after the Yugoslav state intervened. Yugoslav Sokol had left behind some positive effects and a valuable legacy by sowing the seeds of mass physical education, developing female emancipation and promoting community health and hygiene. On the other hand, the movement was a medium for drawing young people away from political life and a prelude to the political denationalization.
